Contact System Borked?

Is the contact system borked?

On my level 50 Gravity / Electricity Dominator that I made back in Issue 11, he has every single broker listed as an active contact.

When I recently made my Force Field / Dark Blast Defender, I started him off in Galaxy City. I made sure to do all of her missions, and then went to do some radio missions in Kings Row. His original Galaxy City contact is still listed as an active contact.

Then when he was level 34, I finally did the Montague Castanella arc. When I first entered the Midnighter Club, I was given Mercedes Sheldon as a contact. Paragon Wiki lists her as a level 20-24 contact, and she would not give me any missions. She's now sitting in my inactive contact list.

What gives? Is the contact system buggy?

Have you ever spoken to a Broker with your Dom?

If you haven't spoken to a Broker they will all appear in your Active tab until you speak to one and get your Newspaper contact. Same goes for Detectives and the Police Radio.

Were you introduced to a new contact yet?

Your primary contact probably has an introduction waiting for you. He or she will continue to appear in your Active tab until you have received the introduction.

Not sure about the rest of them - but you say you did the GC stuff, but then went to do radios in KR? In other words, you never took and met a contact from GC that sent you anywhere else - either to Wincott or some of the other 5-10 contacts, like HPWong or Tony Kord or Linda Summers?

The fact that your initial contact was not given a chance to introduce you to the next one is why he/she is still active. And once you get that intro to a 5-10 contact, the new contact will introduce you to 10-15 and so on, all the way up through to your current level.

I actually kinda like seeing them in my active contacts because it reminds me that I have a string of contacts that I could be picking up - although starting in GC and working all the way through them is tedious.

Ahh... that would explain it. This is my first hero after a few years of strictly playing villains. I went right from my Galaxy City contact to radio missions in Kings Row 'cause I remember how much of a pain in the rear the Hollows is, and all the level 5 - 9 contacts would send me there. :P

Hint: If you go to the Hollows first and talk to David Wincott (just talk, don't accept a mission) you can avoid being sent there by your first second tier contact.

Also, if you do just one mission for your first second tier contact he/she will introduce you to another second tier contact. Do one mission for him/her and he/she will introduce you to another. You can continue doing this until you have the max of 5 zone contacts per level range. These in turn will introduce you to your third tier contacts at level 10.

This will give you a solid base of contacts to choose from so that you can always be sure to have access to those badge and temp power missions as you level up.

The Hollows have actually been made a little less horrific lately. They've smoothed out the spawns, changed mission locations, added a hospital, trainer and other facilities.

All of which I'm sad for. I liked the old Hollows, but I realize I'm in the vastly smaller minority regarding that.

The trainer, store, and hospital I like.

I do miss the proving grounds it used to be otherwise, though.
