Truth is, CoH is ALREADY Free to Play, and has been for a while. The devs just neglected to stop charging people for access, and hoped no one noticed.
-
I... think this post is talking about possibly merging the NA and EU server lists (or rather, not wanting to)? In which case, these are pretty horrible reasons for being against it.

I'll double this. No badges or reward choices. I had the same/similar behavior reported in this thread. A "return to contact" status in the mission, and I could repeat the Tip once. After repeating it, I no longer had the tip, but still had the Return to Contact. Haven't been able to get the Tip again since then, but that just may be bad luck. No special rewards for either run.
-
Quote:Something that may or may not be working as intended. I tried trick or treating while using one of the special costume codes that was added to my account (I was using Carnival Harlequin, so one that's available from the Halloween event as well), and got the Tip. So I didn't need to wear a costume I got from the Halloween event itself to get it.Are players receiving the Tip Mission as a potential reward for Trick or Treating while under the effects of a temporary Costume (and only from Trick or Treating while using a temporary Costume)?
If I'm understanding this right, are we supposed to only be able to get the Tip while wearing the temp costumes from the Halloween event? If the ones from the conventions and meet-ups (or forum games) count as well, then some people will have an advantage since they don't need to wait for a costume drop first.
Not that I'd mind, since I'm one of those lucky people... but still... -
I think the devs should come up with some sort of a system that would let heroes go into the Rogue Isles in order to do the missions and get the Patron Pools the normal way. It shouldn't be permanent, though. Maybe just something that can be reversed, so the hero can go back to Paragon without any long lasting repercussions. So it's like they're just going undercover for a little bit, or something like that.

Option 1 all the way for me. I couldn't see myself using the old style stuff if I had better version available (assuming they're both the same style).
I'd be all for updating some of the older enemy groups, too. Some of those guys look way too dated, and clash with the rest of the game. -
I think it's likely they'll be explaining the new LFG feature (which currently has a channel ingame, though it's unused, some /commands, and had it's own tab for a brief time in beta). So my moneys on us getting a few more details on that.
If we're talking far-off never-gonna-happen theories, the picture is of a guy who just changed his main powerset (and possibly AT? I can't remember for sure). -
As a long-term Vet who enjoys his solo-bases... I will very much enjoy this reward.

It turns out The Resistance is not only a band of terrorists, but forum trolls as well! Upon realizing this, theOcho began reconsidering his stance in the war. -
Bah. Hated the popup and was very glad when it was gone. But I guess people complained loudly enough for the devs to put it back in. Kinda sucks how a few people have to ruin things for everyone.
-
Personally, I don't think we'll ever see the CoP again. It'll just be another one of those things the devs never get around to.

I think it'd be nice if they were made global. Partially because the aspect of a badge that is gone for good is a bit discouraging when making a new badger character... and partially because I just don't see what connection it has to the character itself. Yes, it signifies that your character was logged in when the game was celebrating it's xth anniversary... but that's really an out-of-game thing, isn't it? I don't think it says much about the character at all.
I'm completely against it being purchasable, though. You should at least have to have unlocked the badge in the first place to have it... -
Quote:This. What I would especially love would be the ability to buy a virtual game time card and gift the code to someone else. There have been a few times when I've wanted to give a friend a month of time for whatever reason (birthday/holiday gift, just wanting them back in the game for a bit, etc..), but there are absolutely no stores in my area that sell NCsoft time cards. So unless I wanted to order timecards from an online store or ebay (and I don't), I can't do this.I have something that the ingame store NEEDS and doesn't have currently:
Allow people to gift game time/item packs/other goodies
I've PM'd Avatea about this and you may not be the person she got in touch with about it, but if you have anything to say about it, push for this.
In short: I used to be able to get a code that I could send to someone and they could use it. Because of security changes (primarily because of problems in other NC games), that doesn't work any more. However other games have secure ways to gift fun little things to other people.
You'd have more of my money if I could gift item packs to my girlfriend. nuff said.
Being able to gift time to other people would be a godsend. Probably a nightmare for my wallet, but a godsend none the less. -
I generally sell everything for 1 inf. In fact, I'm not sure if I've really ever listed higher, except for misclicks. Although I think I may have listed for 5 for a short while, but then I realized that I just didn't care if I actually lose out on the deal, or something.
Sometimes I try to be charitable and supply the market a bit... but for the most part, I'm just really lazy. Hasn't stopped me from becoming richer than I need to be on nearly all my main characters. Funny, that... -
Something I think would help ease the pain...
Personal bases. One of the things you can have in it is something like a vault or shrine room dedicated to past/retired heroes (or villains). ie your CoH1 characters. People can link a CoH and CoH2 account, and then select a number of characters to show up in said room (probably would have to be a limit). There could be bonuses attached to it too, so you get to "keep something" from that really powerful min/max character you love, or that badge ***** that you put so much time into...
Of course, not exactly a 1 time deal here. As long as CoH1 is active, you can keep playing it and advance your characters there (and Paragon can even keep releasing expansions!), which in turn will let you update the character archive in CoH2, and get more bonuses. And on the sad day that CoH1 ever actually closes (hopefully not any time soon!), it can remain as a shrine and reminder of all that you may have achieved back then.
... ...assuming we ever DO get CoH2 and this isn't just a namegrab, of course. -

"It was quite a challenge for us to implement," said Lead Programmer Matt Stults. "It took us a long time to find the fun in running around and not getting hit." -
I don't think Incarnate will replace your original Origin. I just don't see it working that way. Mainly because it ISN'T your original origin. It would be if this were some sort of EAT system and you were making a new character... but it's not. This is endgame, and it's adding on to an existing character. So it's more of a supplemental origin, if anything.
The way I see it, the endgame stuff you get may be Incarnate in origin, but that really just applies to those powers. It shouldn't (and probably won't) retroactively change what's already happened. You may be (for example) a Science origin who got his powers by falling into a vat of chemicals. Your base powers work off of that, and thus that's your origin. Later on in your career, you then drink from the Well of Furies (or whatever) and get your first Incarnate ability. That new power is Incarnate origin... but your original powers are still Science! Something that happens later in a hero's career doesn't retcon what happened in the past. We're not Marvel here!
I really think this is the best way to look at it, in order to avoid upsetting the more rabid RPers, too. Getting into the endgame system doesn't COMPLETELY change your character's makeup... it just adds something new. It doesn't get rid of what was already there.
Besides, what good is it to go from a multiple choice system (five origins) to a binary one (you're either incarnate or you're not) when you hit level 50? And if you're engaging in the endgame system (which is supposed to be harder than anything else ingame right now) you're probably past just using SOs... so what does restricting or unlocking the use of all of them really serve, from a gameplay angle? It just seems completely pointless to me.
The only way I could POSSIBLY see it working is if you maybe got to be an Incarnate of [whoever] based upon what your original origin is/was. So if you're a Natural, you get to be Incarnate of X. If you're Science, you become an Incarnate of Y. Magic, you're an Incarnate of Z. etc.
But that's really just dressing up the existing system and adding another layer to it, and when compared to IOs it just seems pointless. So I doubt it'll happen like that.
I am 99% sure that this will not be an issue at all. The devs will just handwave the origin issue aside, and it won't have any change to gameplay compared to what we already have. -
I'm gonna start calling them iLevels. Who's with me?
-
Quote:There is a pretty big difference there, really. There are two problems with raising the level cap. The first is that new content has to be written to fill in those new levels... but given that iLevels will be gotten through the new endgame content (ie all new content written just for it), that ones already taken care of.But I think that it's fair to call this exactly what it is; progress beyond 50 that will make content 50 and below easier than it currently is for those advanced levels. You can call that however you'd like: Incarnate Level X, Level 60, whatever. The final idea is that it will be raising the 'Level Cap' in some form. Just because your enhancements still fit and your contacts still call you doesn't change this.
The other problem is that a level cap increase tends to render all the current "uber loot" worthless in favor of the new shiny "uber-er loot". To compare, another game might have you do endless raids and require tireless effort to get all the best of the best equipment... and then when the new expansion comes out, that gear suddenly becomes junk in comparison to the new best equipment. So you can never really "win".
In contrast, it seems very much like the new Incarnate Levels WON'T replace the current "uber loot" we have. If anything, it will work along side it and just create that much more of a benefit. So rather than making all your prior work meaningless, it adds on to it.
And that's the basic difference between raising the level cap and adding on an alternate level system. When you raise, you make the current top-end stuff weaker by comparison. With this system, it could still retain some of it's value.
Yes, it is just a matter of semantics in the end. But it's an important distinction to make. -
Quote:Why not? Your origin is just the origin of your basic/starting powers. The start of your story. It doesn't exactly prevent you from getting powers from some other way. For example... I could start out as a Natural origin. All of my powers are from me training really hard, and I'm good enough to be counted as a super hero. However, in one of my fights I'm subjected to gamma radiation, which gives me the power of flight and, later on, some minor fire abilities (power pool and ancillary pool). These powers aren't Natural in origin, they're more Science... but that doesn't automatically change me to a Science origin. My main powers, the core of my being, are still Natural... it's just I have something a bit extra now.Aye, I'll agree with this. In the game lore, it's mentioned that there was once a 6th Origin, but that it's been "lost". That 6th Origin was Incarnate. Technically, you can't become an Incarnate unless you start as an Incarnate, just like you can't start as a Science Origin character, and then become a Natural Origin character.
At least... not yet... >.>
...Well, there's not a system ingame to show this right now, but there's really no problem with it from a story angle. After all, why can't a super hero get MORE powers from a different Origin?
And that's what I think the Incarnate System is. Even though it SHOULD be an origin, it's represented as you getting new powers on top of your existing ones, and getting a new origin for those powers tacked on to your character... but not replacing or retconning anything you already have. -
I almost want a server merge enough to suggest a market wipe, if that's what it takes. Give enough warning ahead of time (a few months at least) talking about it and warning people about when it will happen, and to take all their current items and bids off of the market. Send an email out about it too, so people have no excuse for missing the news. Heck, even make it so you don't lose inf when you remove high priced items from the market, temporarily, so people don't complain about that.

Quote:Going Rogue panel at PAX. Happening right now. Expect a lot more juicy info like this coming in as time goes on (though probably not much more in i19)Link to the info? It's hard not to call Broad Sword without proof of all of this.
I don't think you made it up, but it sounds like an elaborately made-up rumor. I mean, we don't know the details of Issue 17 but we know things like "9 more levels" and "Incarnate abilities" from Issue 19? -
Quote:It's almost guaranteed to, like with i6 and CoV. But in that case issue 6 was named "Along came a spider" rather than just "Issue 6: City of Villains", so it's also a good bet that i18 will have a unique title as well.Issue 18: Going Rogue
Even if it's not called that I imagine that 18 and GR will be released at the same time
And... well, even though we don't know it yet, there hasn't exactly been a shortage of Going Rogue threads. So yeah. -
Just a thought... the devs have mentioned that one QoL thing they'll be adding to the game is making objectives such as enemies or glowies show up on the map if you've cleared enough of them. Not sure if it'll be i17 or GR. Maybe there could be a power (or powers) that modify the "strength" of this, and pushes a variable up so they get revealed sooner (for you). So, average Joe Super gets the remaining enemies revealed when he has 5% of them remaining... but someone with super senses gets it revealed when he has 25% remaining. Or something like that.
Could even be added to existing powers (with less benefit than exampled above... but maybe stackable?)
