Two words. Hell. No.
For one, a tanker and a brute are not "exactly the same". Tankers are still the only AT with Ice Melee/Ice Armor. Tankers have more survivability, and have "bruising" now, which is essentially a permanent, substantial (forget whether it's 20 or 30%) resistance debuff on their primary target.
For defenders vs. corruptors, when I can play a Psychic/Empathy corruptor, your argument might start to hold water, but even then, the difference in buffs and debuffs between corruptors and defenders is substantial.
If anything, a "this AT is better in teams" warning would be the only thing that should be done. -

Yeah, I'm Scots-Irish-Welsh-Danish-English-German-Spanish-American. My complexion is entirely from the Scots-Irish, and a bit of the Danish (having blond hair with red facial hair).

There's a difference between lacking a (pretty much vital) mez protection and being weak to the same damage type as every set that exists.

Quote:In all honestly, I've bumped into one person who was using KB improperly the whole time I've played this game. And I team with a ton of energy blasters and stormies. You are joking right? Most of the Energy blasters I've come across in 5 years of heavy play time do not even have hover. 90% my butt.
Since the OP started this thread about Energy Blasting, I will add my caveat that I have a lot less of an issue with them specifically. And as mentioned before I dont kick nor reject people on AT. Sure you're gonna get the person who leads with Energy Torrent...over and over again. But there's plenty of things people do that can frustrate others. It seems that most people are less tolerant of scatter vs. the guy who leads of with aoe immob to ensure grouping is impossible.....just b/c they think their containment is more important than anything else.
To be honest, for some reason the storm power set lends to crazy KB mania....sometimes. Kinda like scrapper lock except its KB storm power lock. My personal favorites are the hurricane guy who runs into a spawn thinking his -tohit/-range is the best ever. Or the Gale guy.....who just loves it to death. You know what I'm talking about. But I digress...apologies. -

Here's a G53 from NewEgg for just under 1200. I know I'm happy with my G53 (slightly different model), and it runs Ultra Mode gorgeously.

I love how you hit the biggest IO fallacy on the head here. Not everyone IOs for softcap. Most people who IO (referring specifically to utilizing set bonuses for increased performance in this case) do so for peak performance. While on some characters (blappers, defense-based melee sets), soft-capping positional is IOing for performance, many other characters are aiming for less than soft-cap (regens), or even not looking at defense in favor of recharge (warshades, illusion controllers). And even among IO defense builds, not all of them are packing 45% to everything. Invuln generally goes for 45% to S/L, slightly less to exotics, and nothing to psi. In a team setting propping up the incidental positionals they get to 40% or so can make a huge difference dealing with psi attacks.

Quote:You ignored the immobilizes, I see, all of which do benefit from domination. So, let me redo that list the right way.If we ignore the immobilise powers and gimped powers (like Flash Freeze) this is what we're left for with each set:
Earth: 3. Fossilise, Salt Crystals, Stalagmites. Salt Crystals is rarely taken.
Electric: 2 1/2. Tesla Cage, Paralysing Blast, Synaptic Overload (only on target)
Fire: 3. Char, Flashfire, Cinders.
Gravity: 3. Gravity Distortion, Gravity Distortion Field, Wormhole.
Ice: 2. Block of Ice, Glacier.
Mind: 8. All but Levitate. Telekinesis is rarely taken.
Plant: 4. Entangle, Spore Burst, Seeds of Confusion, Vines. Spore Burst is rarely taken.
If Illusion was in:
Illusion: 3. Blind, Deceive, Flash.
Therefore, Illusion fits just as well as all the other sets except Mind which is an anomaly. It fits.
Domination isn't just for more powerful controls, it also provides very useful status protection and a free endurance refill.
Earth: 5: Stone Prison, Fossilize, Stone Cages, Salt Crystals, Stalagmites
Electric: 4.5: Electric Fence, Tesla Cage, Chain Fences, Paralyzing Blast, Synaptic Overload (on target)
Fire: 5: Ring of Fire, Char, Fire Cages, Flashfire, Cinders
Gravity: 5: Crush, Gravity Distortion, Crushing Field, Wormhole, Gravity Distortion Field
Ice: 6: Chillblain, Block of Ice, Frostbite, Arctic Air, Flash Freeze (which is hardly gimped as a mag 6 sleep under dom), Glacier
Mind: 8: Everything but Levitate.
Plant: 6: Entangle, Strangler, Roots, Spore Burst, Seeds of Confusion, Vines
Illusion: 3: Blind, Deceive, Flash.
Doesn't fit so well when you don't arbitrarily ignore powers in the other sets. -
Quote:Does any of that matter with the 90% of energy blasters/khelds who know what they're doing with KB? Even a mediocre KB-wielder will know about hoverblasting, or be able to take advantage of a handy corner.Well there is definitely 2 schools of thought right here. One which doesn't care what team composition is unless is VERY lopsided (which is where I fall) and one which needs/wants/requires certain components to run certain TFs or tasks. I, for one, would not reject an AT based upon powers although I will be more selective if we have one spot left on a TF and are melee light (or whatever).
That being said.....I DO fall into the camp of very much disliking KB powers. Almost all of them.
In the hands of someone who doesn't understand team play and/or someone who doesn't understand that not everyone has an extra hour to complete a TF, KB powers can be brutal.
I think most "Pros", as you call it, know how to work around non herd and aoe teams but that's not the point. Do you really want to be chasing down foes all mission long, every mission if you are melee? Do you really want to wait on the long recharge of your best/biggest AOE hold and have it minimized due to scattering. Or worse yet, not even use it. Do you really want all of your AOE/Cone powers to become less effective? Do you really want your TFs to be extended...some but large chunks of time...b/c someone is not considerate of their powers in a team setting? Do you really want your AOE radius buffs/debuffs to be alot less useful. You see that many KB powers CAN do ALL of those things. It's a cascading effect to the entire team. -
Quote:Same for me, except strike occasionally and replace it with always. I haven't done the 1-5 hero content in ages, and half the time I skip all the way to 10, 15, maybe even 20, doing AE arcs (not farm grinding, but actual, honest-to-goodness story arcs). On villain side, I do early missions, but that's because the early contacts in the Rogue Isles are just so much better than the ones in Paragon. Hopefully, that will be changed with I21 (and not just 1-5, but much of 5-15), but until then, I hop straight to the KR AE to run arcs there.Out of Galaxy? I suspect that will be done for you, soon enough.
As someone who ... occasionally skips early arcs, I actually have to say I don't dislike this idea. I do think presenting new players, fresh out of the Tutorial, with "LF Powerleveling" or "LFAE Team for lvls" in Broadcast might not be the best first impression. -
The funny part is, for me at least, with the way my hours keep getting cut, my cash flow does tend to be in spurts. One batch of tax credits from the federal government (as a college student over 25, I have access to a few refundable tax credits, and practically zero tax liability), and one batch from the state. In fact, many people are in that situation, due to reduced work giving a bigger tax refund.

That's a good experiment idea. Make sure to keep us posted as you go, too.

Quote:The thing is, assuming that way has been disproved. Look at Cryptic's offerings that had lifetime subs. Despite banking on average retention rate, they did prove slightly problematic economically.I believe, in the absence of hard data, that the small portion of the COHF community that would take advantage of a lifetime subscription plan would not reach the point of negitive returns for the company. Nor is it reasonable to assume that, even with the purchase of a lifetime subscription, that no more money will be spent by players in the Paragon Pagoda (or whatever we wind up calling the item shop). Since Paragon Studios has decided to switch the game to a hybrid model, then it follows that the issue of a lifetime subscription is within the realm of possibility, economic or otherwise.
Speaking of the character of a game company that offers lifetime subscriptions, I have not found that my enjoyment of a game or the quaility of the game company has been affected by the presence (or absence) of a lifetime subscription, item shop, etc. I think there are bad examples from both sides of the fence. I have been very impressed with the decision making process and costumer focus here at City of Heroes and I believe that they are capable of designing a lifetime subscription that would continue the tradition of great entertainment AND profitablility.
However, as Paragon Studios has stated, CoH has a higher-than-average retention rate. With that in mind, even offering the lifetime subs would be a horrible move economically. In fact, offering lifetime subs in the middle of an MMO's lifespan is generally a bad idea. Lifetime subs are a launch maneuver only.
All that said, if Paragon sees fit to offer lifetime subs, and I have the spare money for one, I would certainly get in on that. Considering how much fun I've gotten out of it in the past, and knowing I'll likely still enjoy it going forward, I'd be a fool not to, but for that same reason, Paragon Studios would be a fool to offer them.
Essentially, 90% of those who buy in on lifetime subs at this point, would also be willing to throw down their money for an extended period of time. So lifetime subs would only cause a decrease in overall income. -
Quote:Don't forget what else was mentioned. Time Crawl and Temporal Selection stack with the other powers to power them up. If you Chrono Shift someone with one of those on them, it will have a stronger effect than if you did it to something without it.So from the sounds of it - This set should be very interesting and will not have skippable powers.
Of the three I heard mentioned (Time Crawl , Temporal Selection , Chrono Shift) the last two sound like your "shields" , and Crawl sounds like a child from Infrigidate-Twilight Grab (without heal). I'm looking forward to hearing more about this! -
Do you really think they'd ever stop selling character slots? Those have got to be one of the best sellers in the in-game part of the store.

Quote:Not to try to start a C/C here, but it's an upgrade on the DDO model. The only real difference is that you get access to all 50 levels (but not incarnate unless you buy GR separately) from the get go.Hmmm, my first reaction was "OMG!! DOOOM!!"
But the way I read it, everyone that already Pays to play can still do this...and get *bonuses* for it too?
Maybe it's because I'm a bit more careful with spending money, so the base game access and what-not is fine for a good while for me...then I incur extra points to spend on stuff every now and then? Seems to work perfectly for me.
For players that have to have everything now, I can see needing to by the newest hottest thing the minute its available might get burned. I'm curious to know how many we have here in each camp.
Also, does this mean we can access the forums without an active account? The times I take a break from the game, it'd be nice to still be able to post and stuff.
I'm.... Undecided at this moment. On the one hand, my college bill next semester is big, and being able to still play this without a subscription every few months is nice, but on the other, I'm wondering how they are going to pick which characters you lose access to when you drop from VIP to Premium. As I have far more characters than 2 plus purchased/vet reward slots. -

You're missing my point. Psionic weakness isn't something that makes it unique because half the defensive sets in the game share that weakness. It makes it more samey.

Quote:Since you clearly didn't read what I said, I'll repeat it for you, in large font, in a very, very noticeable color.Like pointing out other web sites...do you even use hero stats for eaxmple for real data no...do you you use ingame information...no...its called you are spouting about using a program and not even playing and talking about numbers you got from a web site...thank you for proving my point about what you play or dont play.
This is from playing half of an empath duo based around buffing each other with AB.
The only reason I pulled the numbers from Tomax/Mids' for my post is that I was in the middle of installing a program, so I didn't want to run CoH as well. My computer isn't that good.
And after I finished installing it, I hopped back in, and double checked. None of the numbers were wrong. You're either lying or mistaken in your claims that AB is not permable with sufficient recharge bonuses.
