What is a good secondary to go with Energy?
Nrg/Nrg is a classic; boost range, power boost (moar KB! great for solo) and powerful ST blaps make this a good choice, imo.
/Ice has some pretty good mitigation. Ice patch is great mitigation and hugely entertaining; not to mention it grants a huge defiance bonus. Corner pulls are your friend on this combo. Getting a bit overwhelmed at your patch? Shift position, cast Shiver, and KaBloowie! knock em back where they came from. Shift position again to break LoS and polish off whatever's closest as the baddies you just knocked away crawl towards your patch again.
/Electric has some nice melee attacks, Moar KB, and a ST hold, though it's less mitigation than the other two.
Nrg/Nrg was my first 50.
It was awesome.
I am in a constant state of what is best suited to go with Nrg, which is my favorite powerset in all of CoH/V. Honestly, I think the best is the classic Nrg/Nrg, which was my first 50 in Coh years ago. Mostly because of Boost range, and an early BU. Honestly, I think the KB makes synergy tough to find. I rely wholly on KB for my mitigation these days.
I think for the Nrg blast set in general, it may be best used as a Dom, as it is very nice there, except for the lack of a good AOE until the epics. Even then, its an odd duck, eclipsed by Fire for effectiveness.
If you stay blaster, I would go for Nrg/Nrg, its Iconic and effective. Fairly safe and you can use the blaps if you choose, though I never do, except for grins sometimes. Its a powerfull early blaster as you get your best toys early. If you add some early procs, its suprisingly hard hitting, giving Fire a run. Once you have both Aoe's, you can blow through small groups faster than Fire in my opinion, as Fire only had Fireball that casts quickly. Big groups it cant keep up, but its closer than people think.
Last option is /fire. What it gives you is a team friendly AOE set, that keeps you in the action for AOE, when the early stages, your AOE's tend to be more detrimental than helpful. Tough combo to play effectively though, as the AOE's do not mesh well together.

Nrg/Nrg is my only blaster to 50. The fact that the /Nrg tier one is a fast animating kb attack was especially great for the times when you're mezzed and need some room. Those other sets' ST immob's aren't quite so great for that.
If you would like to try something different
ICE.
You have great tools for making sure the enemies don't get to you or your team
Thanks for the advice guys.
I think I may try Ice. With the color tinting, I can probably make it look like force )
It depends on how you use /Energy. If you use it for the range boost, early Build Up, and Conserve Power then Archery goes very well with it for an ultra-long range Blaster (Archery has a full 80' attack chain instead of a short ranged tier 3). If you like using the energy punches then Fire, Sonic and Ice are great choices... Fire gives you AoE damage to add to your good single target melee, Sonic lets you put a spawn to sleep and then pummel them one at a time, and Ice lets you lock down targets with holds while you stun and demolish others with punches.
Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

The Scavenger Hunt: 187076
The Instant Lair Delivery Service: 206636
Yeah NrG/NrG was my first 50 toon. I loved it, most of the time. The boosts you get with it are great. But frost is another good one too Nice too be back after a 5 year layoff

My first 50 is Energy/Electric/Electric. I think those powersets have worked well together.
Altoholic - but a Blaster at Heart!

NRG/NRG....its hard to pair anything up with NRG/ primary that meshes well with all the knockback. So if you've already decided you want knockback, then Boost Range, BU, Power Boost, etc. will just help you blast better.
Should also note that knockback is a great way to use Bonesmasher and Total Focus. Once they are down, you have the time to SS up there and blap a bit. With some luck, you can take down a boss without them ever getting a shot off at you.
I wanted to try an energy blaster but I'm having a hard time picking a secondary. Is there a secondary that synergizes well with energy and provides some good protection?
