Quote:Actually, any group that's almost all psionic damage is going to floor recharge pretty quickly.I guess enemy groups with large amounts of -recharge could be a problem, though I'd think if it was just a single enemy (like an EB) that was the real trouble then Instant Healing would handle it pretty well. The good thing about recharge debuffs is that very few enemy groups can spam them... it's usually just a handful of enemies tossing out the -recharge and once those are down the rest of the spawn is less troublesome. As opposed to -defense from everyone with a gun or sword, which often means every enemy in a group.

Needles. Don't know why, either. I am fine with doing things that involve needles, like getting immunizations, and giving blood (Double-red, so I have to do it less often), but I can't look at the needle. Yes, it does make getting dental work done a hugely nerve-wracking experience since you can't look away from the big honking needle being put into your mouth and injected into your gums.
Crap, I think I just made myself scared. I'm gonna be over in my corner without any needles nearby at all. -
Quote:You missed one of its weaknesses, you know. -recharge debuffs (a bit more common, but not as common as -def). A recharge-floored Regen is at a pretty low survivability due to reliance on clickies. The way I look at it is that (without IOs) Regen is a bit below average in survivability in pretty much every situation. However, it is only a bit below average in pretty much every situation... most sets are great against some things but have significant holes in their defenses. Regen doesn't care what type of damage you take, or how much to-hit the enemy has, or even if the damage is unresistable. All it cares about is whether you are regen debuffed (a fairly uncommon debuff) and whether you have any -heal on you (probably the rarest debuff in the game). You can use IOs to boost its performance in certain areas but unless you are fighting things that floor regen and have -heal your minimum performance is going to be decent even if you have no set bonuses or accolades / temp powers covering that situation.

Quote:Or make the +def enhanceable so we could put an LotG in Storm Kick. >.>Yeah, this was a chang I didn't agree with by this reasoning.
No, they didn't get Scrappers crit, but then, Scrappers don't get Bruising or Gauntlet.
I think it was more a "No one would use MA but a few if we ported MA" change than any thing really dealing with Scrappers and crits.
It was a set that would of been over shadowed by Super Strength for many players, so MA needed something to give it an edge ovr o Tankers.
Now, that said, they could make it so you can enhance the defense debuff in CAK, so I can slot a -Resist in the attack. -
Okay, I haven't paid attention to my MA/Regen in a while (I know, I'm a bad scrapper, I'm sorry), and when MA got proliferated to tankers, I noticed it got a +defense in Storm Kick. Is that only for Tankers (to provide a reason for taking the level 2 attack), or did it extend to scrappers (and stalkers), too?

Thank you, I fixed it. But it still shows why it's important to compare powerset combos rather than primary + secondary. For example, Scrappers and Tankers both have the same total number of powersets, but scrappers have fewer due to excluded pairings.
-
Quote:summing them is not a good way to compare, though. The best way is by unique combinations (which would essentially be # of primaries * # of secondaries - non-possible sets). So:I've seen people complain about lack of choices for certain archetypes now and then, but never really compared them before, so while code is loading at work I thought I'd look them up for comparison's sake:
AT - Primary/Secondary, Total
Blaster - 12/7, 19
Brute - 15/10, 25
Controller - 8/11, 19
Corruptor - 12/12, 24
Defender - 12/12, 24
Dominator - 7/7, 14
Mastermind - 6/10, 16
Scrapper - 14/9, 23
Stalker - 11/8, 19
Tanker - 9/14, 23
I don't think it's fair to just take these numbers at base value in a vaccuum, but there you have it. If you do think that numbers are all that matters, MMs and Doms (particularly) are at the bottom of the barrel, while everybody else sits relatively equal in the 19 - 24 range. Make of it what you will. For what it's worth, MMs and Doms are among my favorites to play.
P.S. We could all gang up on brutes (another favorite archetype of mine) for being the only ones with 25 total, but that might make them angry. We wouldn't like them when they're angry.
AT - Primary/Secondary, Possible combos
Blaster - 12/7, 84
Brute - 15/10, 146 (Claws/Stone, Claws/Shield, DB/Shield, and Katana/Shield not available)
Controller - 8/11, 88
Corruptor - 12/12, 144
Defender - 12/12, 144
Dominator - 7/7, 49
Mastermind - 6/10, 60
Scrapper - 14/9, 122 (Claws/Shield, DB/Shield, Spines/Shield and Katana/Shield)
Stalker - 11/8, 88
Tanker - 9/14, 125 (DB/Shield) -
Quote:Honestly, I usually do similar by starting the fight off with an AoE debuff (Nin/TA on my main). It is extremely effective for allowing a Mastermind to stay in bodyguard mode and get their pets attacking as fast as possible, since they won't attack until something attacks you.
Most of my Masterminds take either Challenge or Provoke for this reason, to avoid having pets stand around for 3-5 seconds at the start of every fight, especially in sitautions where there is great aggro control (e.g. following a tank). Allow, it's very handy when handling squishy pets as they die very easily, by taking the hits yourself in BG mode means you can easily patch up the small loss of HP and you don't have to resummon/buff all the time. -
Really? I figured, based on, you know, a rudimentary knowledge of economics, that it was simply supply and demand. When the supply goes up (due to extra A-merits in the system causing more LotGs to come around), and demand remains constant, prices go down. Pretty bloody simple, if you ask me.

I don't think you grasped the meaning of my words. The ability to do reverse KB or reverse Repel would require a whole new engine. And the devs have stated that if they do an engine overhaul, they may as well do CoH 2.
-
Quote:There is no way short of a complete revamp of every power in the game, or a complete engine overhaul, to implement positional resistance in this game. In addition, why does positional resistance even make sense? "I'm immune to you slashing me and stabbing me with that knife, but if you throw it at me, it'll hurt like hell!"We need a positional resistance. And this is the first power set to have it.
If a positional damage were to be added to every power, then every resistance set would be massively nerfed, because resistance only mitigates its own damage. So, say, Ball Lightning would go from 100% Energy damage to 50% Energy, 50% AoE. And suddenly, Electric Armor (which is known for capped energy resistance) goes from mocking the very idea of a ball lightning, to getting hit for more than 10 times the damage it had been before.
Quote:(5)gravity field: [toggle] PBAoE (taunt) foe +flight Pulls enemies to you (could be repel or KB in reverse).
The gravatational pull lifts and draws foes to you.
(7)Displaced gravity: [Targeted AoE] 7% def foe +fly pull to targeted area
You can lay a targeted location as a place to pull enemies to. -
Quote:A "showstopper" bug would be like the one a little while back where summoning the non-combat Rikti Monkey pet would crash everyone nearby. What counts as a showstopper bug? Tell me, please. Cause to me, one that hammers the rewards to one of the recently trumpeted bits of content in the game, sounds exactly like one.
Quote:Also, just to show how silly your comment was...remember back in..issue 13 I think it was, the global chat bug. When about 2 in 3 tells sent to global names, would NOT go through. Remember how annoying that was? Basically made forming a tf from friends impossible.
I am not saying that all bugs are found in Beta. I am sure that some only crop up when the issue is published. Back to my point though..that particular bug, so much hassle, to everyone playing..took about 2 months I think, to fix.
And when it finally was, do you know what happened Rad? We got this, in the patch notes, riiight down the bottom:
"Fixed a small issue with tells to global friends not being sent.'
Yes, that is correct..a SMALL issue. SO please, tell me, do, what WOULD class as a showstopper issue? -
Quote:And actually, two chief soldiers hitting a blaster at the same time will kill him with no possibility to heal him. Each one would hit with an attack that does about 60% of the blaster's HP, and since they're two separate attacks, one-shot protection wouldn't apply. What does that have to do with you thinking it's impossible.
And before you say it, I simply forgot to put Chief in my description of the two enemies. And 2 Chief Soldiers in a spawn does definitely happen on teams of decent size. -
Sure, it's not quite impossible. But Forting the blaster (and likely running Maneuvers, because it's taken on 90% of empaths) puts them at nearly 30% defense to all. Which means that of the two Rikti Chief Soldiers, the most likely number to hit at once is 0-1 (since each only has a 20%-ish chance of hitting). If you replace that empath with an FF defender, you get soft-cap between the individual bubbles, dispersion, and maneuvers. Buffs and debuffs are exponentially better than heals (not that heals aren't useful, but you need buffs and debuffs much more than you need heals).
-
I see you're still making stuff up. No amount of reaction time with heals will save a blaster from two Rikti Soldiers aggroing on him at once. On the other hand, a defense or resistance buff will. In this game, proactive damage mitigation has always outshone reactive mitigation. And healing is by its very definition (and lack of HoTs in this game) is reactive.

Quote:Trust me on this. You only need the one taunt aura to maintain aggro just fine. Only time my DA/SS tanker loses aggro is to an ice tanker, and that's because their taunt auras are ridiculous (No CoF, but has OG and Death Shroud). And the slot investment required to make CoF work is far too much in my eyes.On teams (DA tanker) I am not really concerned about damage. Most other ATs will do it much better than me and my weak damage aura. The contribution is nice but not really important. I consider it much more important to build aggro really fast so the ranged toons can go wild with their damage powers.
Taunt and mitigation outweight tanker damage on a large team. I still take and use the damage aura if I can spare the endurance or when solo/small team and my damage actually counts.
DA does not get much def to soft-cap it easily and I cannot afford expensive sets, especially while still leveling. This only makes the -ToHit even more valuable. Also, I was not taking Cloak of Darkness because of aesthetic issues, but that may change:
thanks Schismatrix!
I'll have to blow a respec and try it. -
I think it's a fair enough assumption that the devs want to lock the A-merits behind "level 20 and have done a morality mission", since that's where it was locked behind to begin with.

This is a public forum. If he didn't want input, he'd have PMed a mod or submitted a bug report, not ranted about it where people can respond. That's like complaining that if you're ranting about something about something around a bunch of other people, they shouldn't say anything at all.
-
Quote:How about no? The whole point of adding DfB was so that you can skip the 1-20 stuff after having done it multiple times. Nerfing the XP so that you can't get past those levels in a similar amount of time. It's not "killing old content", it's letting people who've played for 4-odd years skip the old (and shuttling you everywhere with way too many street-sweeps) missions that need to be upgraded.(If this has already been posted somewhere, feel free to move this thread to where it belongs)
Im voting for a Death from below (i.e. Sewer) xp reduction; a huge exp dimnish after L8+ (like old sewers used to be). DFB trials really outshines exp competition from pretty much everything else in the game for non hardcore players. I´ve leveld 3 toons to 50 (granted, not from level 1) in sewers alone since DFB went Live but eventually got really bored with it. I heard tons of new players saying they are doing sewers repeatadly and really dont know anything more about the game, some even asking if there is anything else to the game. Its fun and all with fast exp, but its killing old content fast. More urgently, ive grouped with new players in their 30s+ who don´t understand their role. This aint unusual, but the amount of it is. -
Quote:You're getting the attitude because you ignored the very easy to read comparison of what you can do with each. You didn't have to read "every sodding patch note", you just had to go to the main website, specifically right here.Yes I knew all those restrictions, I just assumed, yes assumed not read every sodding patch note that when the game went Free to play, you could play the game with some restrictions on ATs, zones maybe, and other little things.
For me I would rather have my friend restricted to low level areas and being able to communicate with me and my friends than being able to go lots of places but not being able to communicate with us. For me communicating is the most basic part of the game, it's why I tried to bring a friend here.
I tried to get a new player into the game, I am sorry to have bothered the almighty forum gurus that only seem to be interested in telling me "You should have known that" and "If she doesn't pay she can do without" , with one exception the Friends channel I missed that, thank you.
I think I shall skip City of for a week or six, if this is the attitude we have to getting friends into the social parts of the game.
Edit: I started this, in this part of the forum to indicate why my friend probably won't join us in Paragon city hoping that I could get help to overcome the obstacles and get a new member. Instead I'm feel like I'm told off, when I try to get a friend into a game so that we can play together when it went free to play.
Not to mention that most people assume by default that you don't get most of the chat channels by default in an F2P/Hybrid MMO. I know in the other superhero one the chat restrictions are pretty much the same, as they are in WoW. -
Opinions nothing. I can back up the benefits of psychiatry with facts. Psychiatric counseling helps with Gender Dysphoric Disorder as either a precursor to surgery, or to assist those who don't wish to get SRS. Its ability to diagnose ADHD and provide both medicinal and non-medicinal solutions is quite good (from personal experience. I have mild ADHD which I keep under control with physical exercise that helps hone focus, like martial arts.) Psychiatric evaluations of ex-gay survivors have shown the psychological harm those programs cause. Psychiatric evaluations tell the difference between sadness and clinical depression, which prevents over-prescription of anti-depressants.
