A system where a player can opt to retire a level 50 in order to get bonuses for a new character would be ok as long as the bonuses weren't to powerful (think veteran reward powers as a suitable power level). Forcing players to retire their characters that they've played a lot? A horrible, horrible idea that would cause a lot of people to quit. Some people like to play their level 50s and being forced to stop and start over again would be extremely annoying. For people who want to play this way the current system is fine, you have 36 maximum slots per sever and a nice delete button.

EDIT: Also seriously, you posted this thread in player questions then reposted it here? I understand you felt the need to post in the correct forum, but given the overwhelmingly negative response you got in player questions why bother? I should have been obvious from the responses there that this is a horrible idea, reposting it (even to "correct" the location) smells of trolling.

I'm quoting this for Adeon's EDIT - my main point. This is seriously one of the strongest strings of adamant opposition to an idea that I have ever seen on these boards since I started playing the game (which was well before my forum reg date BTW).

But I completely agree with the rest of the post and the other posters here.

  3. I'm sorta with Westley - I have alts spread across 6 servers and I'm leaving it that way, maybe juggling them around a bit.

So which one is *my* server again?

The ironic thing is that those mobs must be killed to spawn a Winter Lord, unlike in past years. They changed the mechanic.

Not really - I have 3 out of 4 plus the Wedding pack myself.

The limit is on how much you can spend at the NCSoft store in a single day. Just come back tomorrow, Radu.
  6. Teams can be loads of fun, but another thing to like about this game is that for 95%+ of the content, you can solo (maybe very slowly for some ATs, but it can be done).

I'm not saying don't try teaming, just saying don't forget that soloing is just as valid an option.

With the free transfers just announced, I expect to see lots of activity as people try out new servers (why not? If it doesn't work out, just transfer back!) so none of the servers will have their "typical" load.

And don't forget the Winter Event! There will be more folks out & about than usual opening presents and trying to spawn Winter Lord. Or for crowds, head over to the Ski Lodge just off Pocket D.
  7. My level 13 Blaster just got about 5.5 million Inf from selling Candy Canes - she's a happy little robot right now. Gotta love those "want it NAO" types out there.

The event being turned on a few days ago for just the day was an announced "test" BTW. Not an "oops".
  8. I think I'm with Catwhoorg on this one.

My heroes & villains do not know each other (well, except for the set of sister/evil twin characters on Guardian) and the idea that they would unwittingly share the same agent (or even have an agent) doesn't sound right to me.

I don't see any need to join them under the global. My friends on Infinity know me by my global, but they also know I run several alts when I group with them - and they know which one by looking at their Friends list.

Plus, I really didn't quite get what this sentence meant:

    Quote:
Most metagame details have some sort of in-game representation, like the server "shards".
  9. Why is my PB sitting at 13ish after over a year? (to paraphrase Novella's original question).

Well, I've never gotten the hang of binds - one reason why I solo my MM's as well, BTW. I get the theory of them, and I freely acknowledge that they work and *might* be useful. But setting them up has always seemed to be a big hassle when I could just roll up something that I don't need to bind at all.

Trays fill up too quickly, although I really should go back to her now that I can keep more than 3 trays open on my screen - though that might run into an issue of a cluttered screen.

I pretty much agree with what BillZ has said about not enough damage, etc.

I know that there will be some who want to "solve" my issues with them, but please don't, at least not in response to this post. I'm fine with leaving her sit for a while longer and will come back when I'm ready. I only came int this forum because the thread title caught my eye while scrolling thru the AT forums.
  10. Well, our "dead" server Triumph (often near the top of the list at login) just had a blast doing an impromptu Mothership Raid.

Much fun was had by all, several characters levelled (my Scorching Wrath among them) and we gained lots of merits & Inf.

I heard about the raid on one of the global channels mentioned by several posters, and add my hearty recommendation to join them!

Oh, and on the movie matinee threadjack - my "first run" theater matinees are $5 before noon & $6-7 between noon & 6 p.m. But we also have an excellent "second run" theater that has $0.50 matinees and $1.00 movies in the evening - if you can stand to wait until then.
  11. Flaming? Not so much.

"Flames" tend to start when the OP ignores the general purpose of a specific forum to seek validation of his/her personally-held opinion.

Did you read what the purpose of this forum was?

    Quote:
Player Questions Got a Question? Get an answer! Players helping players find information related to CoH/CoV.
The second part of the description is most important as to why you have gotten negative responses - you aren't looking for "information". You are looking for "opinion", as you clearly stated:

    Quote:
Think about it, my question is obvious......"Whats your opinion". People posts things in here like I just did to get others opinions. I thought it was self explanitory, but I guess I had to make it clear.
Generally, a discussion attempting to elicit "opinion" is held down in the City Life forum.

You also put something into your OP which looked an awful lot like a "Suggestion" - to radically change how Ouroborus portals worked.

So forgive our confusion over whether you were actually looking for information - which you weren't.

And also - your limited sampling based on those you spoke with on Freedom aren't even close to a valid statistical sampling. So what if those you talked to on a single server, based on the people you routinely interact with have such a narrow view of the purpose of bases. Several people have come into this thread and said they have other uses besides teleporting.

Was the Black Scorpion mission the first thing you ran when you picked up the character again? Sometimes when you switch AT, it helps to do a few warm-ups first, especially switching from someone with armors to someone without them. Ranged vs. Melee is also a big switch in tactics.

I know back-to-back defeats are frustrating, but you have to try to remember that from time-to-time the RNG is just against you.

All I can really advise is trying to get in a good frame of mind about needing your training wheels back on for a bit. I'm sure others would help with your build if you post it, however.

    Trying again...

Well, I don't have any advice, per se, except to keep trying.

From your post, it sounds like you only ran the battle twice (sorry if that is not the case). Sometimes, the numbers are just rolling against you.
  14. Q#1 - IDK - I've never had this problem, but it's been quite a while since I moved or added teleporters.

Q#2 - Stacking. Check out this thread (stickied at the top of this forum):

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=126436 (Issue 13 Stacking Tools)

Personally, I prefer using Floor Safes to the Lamps.

Also - any item under the "Desks" tab of the editor can have items placed on top of it.

Finally, stacker used to do classes - send him a PM to see if he is willing to do any more.

Q#3 - Not that I am aware of. The Entry room is composed of 2 squares by 2 squares. Doorways attach always directly to one of those squares and not in the middle of both of them (which is what it would have to do to "center" them).

Q#4 - I'm not sure I understand the question. I have been able to avoid gaps by carefully stacking and overlapping pieces. It takes practice.

OP, if the game is dead, why do you care? Why are you here at all?

What color is the sky in your world?
  17. Wow, PumBumbler, that's impressive (no sarcasm intended at all).

But just curious - what are you saving those Brainstorms for?

As far as my experience goes with teams so far they have not been successful in the "run and gun" tactics as you call them. From my other RPing I would call this "dash and bash". What I've seen is, I get invited to a team. The person that did the invite says "Follow Me". Not much else in the way of communication, even when I try to initiate it. We enter the building (or a cave or whatever), the others run off without telling me what direction they want to go so my Tank is left following behind rather than in the front where I should be. The "Squishies" (as I've learned to call them from reading these forums) run into the fray, I try my best to take the heat off them. Usually they die (because they're squishy) or we all die. Next I know I'm either standing there by myself being pounded on by 10 baddies or I'm waking up in the hospital and the "Team" has disbanded without so much as a "bye".

I have tried to voice my concerns to these others and the general response is "We know what to do" or "Just follow us an kill the spawn".

This is at low levels, I've been experimenting with different types of builds so I haven't gotten any of them above... I think the one at the highest level is about 16.

So, my experience thus far with teams and the "run and gun" mentality has been not been pleasurable. Not to mention the fact that I just get kicked from said team without a word and when I try to send tells to the others, 9 times out of 10 I get no response whatsoever and the other time I get something like "I gotta log, see you later." which I never do. I get the strange feeling I'm being blamed for the failure even when there was really nothing I could have done. If you're playing a squishy and you run into a mob you've gotta expect they're going to beet you senseless.
OK - back to my question then -

What server are you on and when (generally) are you playing?

Diffferent servers do have slightly different communities (I say this as someone who has a full slate of characters on 4 servers). It sounds like you just haven't found a good community yet - don't give up, they are out there.

Maybe you should advertise for a RP team - there is usually more chatter on those teams (although it might not be about tactics).

You might also have better luck trying to find teams using the global channels, some are better than others. Check your server forum below to find what the more active ones are.

I don't want to stereotype the servers, but some of them seem to have a higher proportion of people who just want to steamroll and finding those who don't can be harder there, especially if you are playing at off-peak times.

Advertising on your server forum is a good alternative to trying to recruit in-game, people will take more time to try to understand what you are looking for. You may want to take Bill Ramey up on his offer, it sounds pretty good.

Welcome to the game! Hope I see you there sometime!

    Yup Yup This^.

Making it an AoE buff just adds the problem of having to make sure everyone is in range - and adding another "Gather for CM" to the "Gather for RAs", "Gather for AM", etc. And then having someone inevitably miss out on the buff....
  20. To go with what SerialBeggar said already, a couple more questions:

What server are you on and when do you typically play?

Your best bet for a slower pace to let you explore more of the game might be to start a static team with those parameters (not going to rush, need to take time to check out the scenery & make sure we understand the strengths & weaknesses of our foes).

You can probably find volunteers for such a team (perhaps in your server forum below, perhaps here), even vets who like looking at the game with fresh newbie eyes from time to time. Heck, it sounds like something I might be interested, depending.
  21. I mainly use the Vault when I log onto a character I haven't played in a while to join a TF, say Citadel, for example, and I discover that I haven't sold off all the salvage that dropped on the last TF - oops!

So I go dump stuff that I will want to keep in the conveniently located Vault in Talos, to be picked up after I finish the new TF.

Yes, I frequently don't immediately go deal with the drops I get on each & every alt - sometimes, I am ready to log off (long day of play), sometimes, I'm just being lazy. But with 60+ alts, I frequently store salvage on the character to be used by my crafters for each SG (I have 5 in all). I'm sure that made someone twitch when they read it

And even if they did lose the first fight, they'd be out, what, another minute, tops, since neither of them had their first fragment yet? How is running away and setting themselves back many minutes, maybe hours, more time-efficient?

But more to the point, didn't they sign up for this game to feel like superheroes? What kind of superhero runs away from a fight they can't lose?
Well, since I pretty much *loathe* PvP, even engaging in a PvP fight I "can't lose" is something I have absolutely ZERO interest in, and therefore becomes "no win" for me. I've never bothered to learn how to PvP, so although my powers may be much stronger than yours, my skills in using them against another player would be much less than yours - guaranteed.

The time efficiency is in going to go do something I enjoy, not in playing your little PvP game. The Shivans will be there later, and unless I have a TF team waiting for me before they can start athe TF or something, there's no rush.

I think you vastly underestimate how much a large portion of this community will never participate in PvP EVER, no matter the circumstances.

Coming here to taunt the non-PvP'ers with your insinuations that to refuse to engage in PvP is against the "superhero code" in some way is rather insulting, BTW.

My superheroes pick their fights, they don't jump in to engage every villain they come across. Not fighting someone in a PvP zone because you don't like that mechanic is really no different than choosing to fight Clockwork instead of Vazhilok by choosing those missions or story arcs.

    Psi/?

For a Blaster, your Tier 1 & 2 primary & Tier 2 secondary are *always* worth it. Remember under the new Defiance, you can continue to fire those attacks while mezzed. Maybe not slotted up very much, but definitely worth taking.

And it can be used to build the damage scaling of Defiance as well, much like you are used to using it to build Domination.

I really miss Defiance when I switch back to my Fire/Therm Corr....

I find the walk to look somewhat whorish (not that it was badly modeled..it was excellently done..I just don't like looking like a skank when I walk.) When I picture Green Scare, I don't picture her walking with such a Sashay, more of a swagger.
I haven't gone to the D since Walk was released....

But I agree that my female Supers swagger or pace or stride - they do *not* "sashay".

I'm not ticked off about the female walk - for those who wanted it so badly, I'm glad for them, I really am.

Alternative animations would be really spiffy, but I doubt we will get them - no big deal. I played the game for nearly 5 years without Walking, I can continue to play it without Walking - I just don't have it in most of my power trays. Nothing about it says "Superhero" or "Supervillain". So I just ignore it.
