Quote:Where in the OP did you see a question about how to build a blaster for farming?Blasters are my fav AT but soloing a blaster - it's either a labor of love or just plain labor. Your first thoughts are always 'how do I stay alive' and as a leftover you can attack once in a while.
Like other 'farmers' there is usually a focus on making a build for a specific type of enemy. Those builds are not always the most useful on teams.
On teams almost always the AOE's make each group take half the time to defeat. Of course using ST attacks on bosses helps but there are almost always scrappers doing that too.
If you were faceplanting on teams a lot due to AOE's, you just have to learn when to use them. Some tanks/teams can make nice organized groups that you can clobber without taking a hit from 10 enemies. Other teams are a mess and you learn to just stay with ST in those situations. Any blaster can survive nicely on a team if you know how to stay out of trouble - although the healers would beg to differ .
You seemed to not like Fire/ but it has the best combination of strong ST and AOE attacks. On a team you can make a big contribution and not even use your secondary. You could then pick a secondary for mitigation when soloing, /Ice and /Devices being popular.
I don't know if I helped or just made things more confusing. I've read about some amazing mega-purple blaster builds for farming but it's easier to go the Fire/Kin or Scrapper route for that.
Hope you find something that works for you.
I saw a request for an idea for a blaster that would be fun all the way up thru the levels. -
I recommend hitting the university in either Steel Canyon or Cap au Diable - go ahead and complete the Inventions Tutorial from the contact there and get a free IO!
-
Not a comment on any one suggestion made here - but I kinda chuckle when I see the title of this thread.
More than a couple of ideas here - and they turned out to be not all that small either. -
Just an aesthetic point - I don't like the idea of a powerset that seems to dictate a particular costume - in this case, some mixture of armored pieces (although we do have a bunch of them to choose from).
I can't think of any other powerset that would tend to limit the use of all the various costume options.
Costume choice should be guided by backstory, not by powerset choice.
Is there something else you could call it? And then name the powers themselves something other than "upgrade 1", etc.? -
Well, level 30 is about the level when you really have to think strategically instead of just rushing in "guns ablazing". You have to learn to recognize the most dangerous target (to you if solo, or to the team, then secondarily to you if teaming) and take it out first. That's why JohnX was talking about ST playstyle vs. AoE playstyle.
Generally on higher level teams, there is a controller who has locked down the majority of the minions, so your AoEs can blast the minions - or, probably a better strategy, you can move on to those not locked down, especially pesky mezzing Lts or Bosses. If you learn to recognize them first and take them down fast, the controllers and defenders on the team will love you - a dead mezzer can't mez the controller or defender, preventing those lovely buffs/debuffs/immobs, etc.
I agree that AR/Dev isn't a very good teaming blaster if you really want the benefit of using your secondary - it's pretty situational and teams rarely want to wait while you set stuff up. OTOH, AR has some nice cones & AoEs, especially the "nuke" Full Auto.
The "safest" blaster is probably something with Ice as a primary or secondary (or even an Ice/Ice blaster) because of the Holds & Slows. My favorite of this type is the Fire/Ice blaster - lay down an Ice Patch, back up to lure them onto it, then let loose with Rain of Fire and Fireball - fun times!
If you liked the look of your Fire/Fire, maybe consider the Fire/Ice as a fun way to level up. Especially now that you can color stuff to coordinate (somewhat, though ice colors are pale). -
Quote:Standard Code Rant applies. What about the ability to create 8 man Thugs/Traps MM teams with Gang War? You can easily go over the "max NPC draw" limit with all that. If that's possible to accomplish I don't see why there'd be a problem with performance issues.
Why not toss in a graphics option to disable cape systems, then, or limit the amount of cape systems visible per character? The cape systems blocked by the limit would be replaced with "placeholder" sort of things, or much lower quality ones, like what you would see when you have character detail lowered.
As for the "placeholder" idea - what would you see if you already had the character detail lowered (for your older comp or whatever)? Nothing at all? -
Standard blah, blah, blah about "missions are instanced", "people don't stand around AP any more because of the AE chatter (which is now gone, but people moved on)", "last weekend was a holiday weekend - lotsa parties, lotsa football".
Seriously, it depends a lot on the time of day where Infinity falls on the roster, but for the above reasons & others, apparent activity in the streets (and likely on the Team Search tool) was probably down across the board for the entire period between Christmas & New Year's Day weekends. -
Quote:Many though his faults may be, I sincerely doubt that Jack had anything to do with why the female lizard/dragon head looks so crappy.Well, I heard the head of the dev team, who at one time went to manage Tabula Rasa when General British left, is an arrogant *ahem* who basically wants to make the game his way instead of doing what the players want, so I'm not surprised about that part. XD
I get a bit tired of seeing everything blamed on him.... -
Quote:The back attachment points don't work either - have you ever put one of the Raptor Packs on a character with the tiniest size female body? It stand way out from the body. Or alternatively on the Huge body type maxed out? It's buried in the back.
Player models don't have the thigh attachment points, sure. But I'm pretty sure you could use the chest detail or even the "wings" to put on backpacks or such.
Jay (who has the say on this) doesn't like adding more clipping if he can avoid it at all, so until he finds a way to do it that doesn't look like dog poo (to him), we aren't getting them. -
Quote:Perhaps the OP hasn't played a Blaster so doesn't know how that particular AT works with the Fighting pool? To me this sounds the most likely - someone who felt he had enough defense in a Primary or Secondary on a melee character (without the Fighting pool, perhaps) often looks for more defense for a squishier character to try to get closer to that meleer's defenses.I just have to ask this to the OP.
marc100: Your join date is Nov 2005. Why do you not know about the Fighting Power Pool powers?
Or perhaps he took an extended break (many do and come back) and now needs to have his memory refreshed about how it works?
Or maybe he never had enough extra power pool picks to take that pool?
Or maybe....
The reg date just means that's when he signed up for a forum account and should not be regarded as an indication he has played continuously since that date - just like a more recent date does not mean that the poster has only been playing only since that recent date and is a newb.
BTW - since I do not min/max, and generally build to concept, I have never taken the Fighting pool, and have no idea of the numbers in it, so I refrained from offering any opinion on the OP itself. -
Quote:Indeed - the brow ridge isn't as heavy, nor is the jaw line - both of which make it not terribly dragonish to me. Maybe more like a Velociraptor with spikes down the back of her head. It's different. Very different. The base stuff is there, but the scales are horrible on the female head. The head itself is TINY compared to the body of females, and much smaller than the male version.
If you max out all the head scale sliders, they come out a bit more dragonish, but I had to delete my female dragon because I couldn't stand to look at her.
All the Female Monstrous Heads are off scale and too tiny for the female body frame. I can't make a reasonable looking female werewolf either.
Edit: Oh, yeah - Welcome to the forums! Come back again with your next question or just to chat any time! -
You eventually got to your answer thru your own research, but I will recap it in order for you:
Teleporters are crafted items made on a Basic Forge or Basic Worktable (available in the base editor when you are standing in a room that can hold them).
They require 3 pieces of invention salvage - you can find the exact recipes in PlasmaStream's stickied thread above or in the Wiki or by opening up the forge or worktable. (Pro tip - there is one recipe at each level of salvage, and the lowest salvage level one is usually the most expensive since it needs a Luck Charm).
Teleporters must be placed in Transport rooms. The 1X2 Transport will hold 1 teleporter with 1 beacon attached. For a single person SG, this will be sufficient if you are trying to save Prestige. Just switch out the Beacon every time you need to go to a different zone -make sure all your alts have sufficient rank to edit the base.
Beacons are available after you gather all the exploration badges for a zone while playing in SG mode. They will appear under the Transport tab of the base editor when you are standing in a room that can hold them and cost 10K Prestige each (selling one back to buy another is a "zero sum" transaction, that's why I suggesting doing that for a single person SG). The Wiki has pictures of each location for the exploration badges BTW.
You will need to hop back into SG mode to afford all this though. There is a Prestige cost to having even a single teleporter - placement has a cost, the beacon has a cost, they require Control & Energy (which cost), etc.
You can, of course, have bigger transport rooms and more teleporters, but that costs Prestige you don't have right now (and it would take a bit of playing, not an excessive amount,to get).
Just curious - why aren't you continually playing in SG mode? -
Check the guide in Fulmens' signature (he posted above in this very thread).

Quote:Would it?i like the idea, except the 1-5 hours i think it should just be rounds that maybe last 5 minutes.
PVP is so un-popular because there's no PVPers. When the game was released there was no PVP. So people who only play for PVP didn't want to play. After it was added more PVPers started to play only to find that the PVP is bad. If devs spent more time on PVP it could be greatly improved which would bring in a bigger and wider gamer community.
I tend to doubt that.
And how many PvPers added would make it worthwhile on a resources spent vs new players gained metric?
Also, this hasn't been addressed that I can see:
Further Ideas
Quote:One: improve the graphics engine. This is a must, the graphics will need improving to compete with the other hero game.
Now as I'm sure the dev's want to put it out free as everyone else does. But this thing is big. Give it as a free download to current players. But, put it on the shelves in stores as a new expansion for the game with the complete game of course. This way new people don't look and see CoX, they see CoX with the new expansion! It may also bring many of the ex-players back. Many people do not check a website to see if the game has any new good updates. Many just browse stores or reviews for new games. If they see "Expansion" they will know something new, different, and good has happened with their old game. They will then pick up the box or review and read it, hopefully followed by re-activating their account. -

You were surprised at a lower apparent population in a single zone on NEW YEAR's DAY?!
Really? Really?
You may have noticed that not only was it a holiday, following a traditional all night party, there was also some "good" football on (Yay, Buckeyes beat the Ducks!) - in the evening, no less.
In addition to what others have said about instanced game, people don't hang in AP following the fiasco of AEBaby chatter, Winter Event going on in Pocket D, etc.
I'm pretty sure we didnt need another thread on this, did we? -

Much of your explanation of the mechanics of your system was in the context of a character still earning XP - which a level 50 no longer does.
Can you perhaps explain again, limiting it to the context of only a level 50? -
Quote:Well, when I started playing this game, I "didn't know" the forums existed - in that although there was something on the updater, I had absolutely ZERO idea what the purpose was for the forums. You see, this was (and still is) my first MMO, so I was literally too dumb to recognize that the little book that came with the game was not my best source of info on how to play. Nor was I used to seeking a social network on-line....Don't know the forums exist? It's on the updater every time you launch it. Basically every MMO has an official forum. They don't get a free pass on that one, that's just lazy.
Don't know the channels exist? Well, if they're searching for people to play with, typically they go to the official forums and complain that the game is dead and there's no people. And what's on the official forums? People! And what do the people here do? Post a bunch of examples of how you can find more people, which typically includes a bunch of channels where you can find people in-game. Shocking, I know.
So I do think that vets, especially vet forum posters who understand all that stuff about using forums to find out stuff not covered in the manual or the in-game help - can easily lose sight of the fact that going to the forums is not a "natural" thing to do for someone new to the MMO genre.
And just based on the posts I've seen over the years - we have a *lot* of new players who were just like me- ignorant of all those MMO behaviours that others take for granted. -
Quote:While I have seen support for DeviousMe's position here in this thread and others - I'm not seeing a lot of support for Thaumator's position (that some folks would actually like to have globals tied to all their names)Eh, I dunno. I kind of like having my character names be unique, and so do a lot of other people.

While Paragon City is in Rhode Island (USA) - the Rogue Isles aren't.
So I doubt that the powers-that-be there would want to celebrate US Independence - and in fact, would actively discourage it since it might encourage "dangerous ideas" in their populace. -
Quote:Umm, that's not really a "compromise" for your GM (other than his game, his rules) because that's how positive divine energy (now called "radiant" energy in 4E) is supposed to work. Even under DnD 3.0 or 3.5, or even before, your cleric could choose (generally at character creation, but occasionally later in-game) to Heal or Harm, depending on whether his/her diety would allow it.Hi:
I was playing the old D&D (paper and dice) game last week end, and a player asked to use the reversable effect on cleric spells option. Basically this option allowed to use their heal spells to do damage instead of healing on enemy targets. Some of us were stunned at the request, and went rule "lawyering" and to our surprise it was there! The GM was not crazy about the concept, and compromized indicating that the heal could be used to damage undead monsters.
In fact. my ex-husband played an anti-paladin that got revenge on another PC by selling him into the gladiatorial pits then as he turned away, clapping him on the shoulders in the reversal of a paladin's "laying on hands" (that PC had really screwecd over the party, to be expected given the campaign, but it was also appropriate to exact an over-the-top revenge).
In another case, a moderately high level cleric totally messed up the big fight against Undead by casting "Heal' (the 7th or 8th level cleric spell), which blew up the BBEG.
Quote:Of course, since I am always thinking of CoX, I thought, would it not be cool if Defenders and Corruptors could have reversible effect powers, thus a heal would hurt the baddie, and the buff would debuff the baddie as well?
What do you all think of the concept?
Quote:I am sure some of the tankers who are used to being babied by the support class, may have an objection to this, but often I been in truly extraordinary good groups, with good AT builds that simply do not require the constant buffing to be very effective; sure they could be even better, but that would be at the expense of reducing the support to buff bot class status (think of the relation between a tank and the kin defender).
Quote:In fact my Tankers and Scrappers are built not to require Speed Boost, he performance gained from a speed boost is inconsequential, and in fact I do worse cause I am jetting all over the map when chasing the mobs I have knocked the heck away from me.
Quote:I also been in great groups where my emp defender, hardly does any healing at all, the amount of control provided by controllers and dominators is really good and the tankers, scrappers and brutes are very good too. So I find myself with lots of time in my hands to do something else than playing the faithful buff/heal bot.

Quote:But others, including me, choose not to play any of those games.
But many, including me, will gladly fight other players in games like Counter-strike, Team Fortress 2, Mario Kart, Bomerman, Chess, etc.
I don't really like PvP in any context, even those clicky games on Facebook. Quite probably, that's because I sucked at any athletic activity in jr. high gym class (most likely it's at least partially due to a total lack of depth perception - blind in one eye - so I never could judge when the ball was about to whack me in the face, something I never really cared for).
I'm also just old enough that the Atari 2600 was something my parents bought for the little kids in the family - I was way too grown up (and gone away to college), so I've never seen the fascination for many of those games. Before City of Heroes, I only played single player turn-based games or board games on the computer. Even the competition of regular board games like Monopoly bores me most of the time.
So I'm in the camp that would mind at all if all forms of PvP (zone, arena, whatever) dropped off the face of Paragon City/Rogue Isles entirely.
I was going to end that with a "sorry', but I'm really not very sorry at all, sorry. -
Have you listened to the podcast from HeroCon or looked at the videos taken by some of the attendees?
I think that may be some of the stuff you are looking for regarding Going Rogue.
Also, isn't the tentative release date set for second quarter 2010?
BTW, it was kinda hard to find your "suggestion" in that wall of text. Was there something besides a request to have more info about upcoming things for the game?
Also, it sounds like you are a bit burnt out - perhaps it's time for a break?
