This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

But does everything have to be inclusive of everyone?
Would Paragon City, R.I., USA forget about thier nation's original Independance Day, even if there were celebrations of the end of the first Rikti War?
Should we remove the snow from the winter event to be sensitive to our Southern Hemisphere players? I say Nay!
The question does spring to mind of what the residents of the Etoille Isles would do while Paragon celebrates the 4th. Independance from the tyrannical rule of President Marchand under the benevelent leadership of the Great Chairman Recluse?
Mako's birthday?
Since the idea has been brought up before, and never implemented, I'll just shrug and toss this in the "Unlikely to happen" pile anyway.
Personally, not being American, I celebrate Independence Day on the 22nd of September. I have no real arguments against an American Independence Day, but to say that I, personally, see it as a waste of time.
Then again, I'm biassed, as I'm not a fan of events in general.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

This idea should be fairly easy for the Devs to implement.

(Metaphorically...I read it all, but I knew I wasn't going to like the rest of it)
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

good idea but not necessary, they have bigger and better things to work on. Spare time should be used fixing bugs not adding events that not everybody who plays the game celebrates.
Joking aside, I would like to see some kind of event in the summer. All the events we do have are clustered around the cold months. I want to see the ski slopes melt and turn into water slides!

Hmm...
A water park would be great.
We just need a Cartman-like hero in there singing "There's too many villains..in my waterpark".
Make it Rikti War Victory Day, Down with Emperor Nemesis day, We love Lord Recluse day.
Holidays and festivities sure, but lets uise what the CoX universe has to offer.
No

"No" for 4th of July celebration. "Yes" for some other connected-to-game-lore celebration.

So, yes, the US Independence day would be appropriate.
But yeah there can just as easily be an in-game holiday (which can coincide with the Launch Date of CoH, which would be very appropriate).
While Paragon City is in Rhode Island (USA) - the Rogue Isles aren't.
So I doubt that the powers-that-be there would want to celebrate US Independence - and in fact, would actively discourage it since it might encourage "dangerous ideas" in their populace.

That being said, do we have an established date for the end of the first rikti war (perhaps the date of the alpha/omega gambit)? It would make for a worldwide celebration day that still falls within canon.

Proudly serving in our military so you don't have to.
The first Rikti War began May 23, 2002. The Alpha & Omega Gambit took place approximately 6 months later (November of 2002).
The second Rikti War began July 24, 2007. Considering the Rikti Invasion zone events triggered by completion of the Lady Grey TF are theoretically part of the second Rikti War, you could say it's ongoing.

Standard code rant applies.

I'd also quite like to see:
- The commemoration of the vigil held for Maiden Justice
- Something to do with the wedding anniversary of Psyche and Manticore (a baby? Or is that too Funtastic [sic] 4?)
- A celebration of ScienceĀ - relating specifically to the first successful Portal experiment by Dr Brian Webb.
Wedding anniversaries are always fun... babies, jealous exes - that sort of thing.
I would like to suggest a few special instanced missions - maybe one with a parade float (stationary) and an attack by Freaks or similar.
I think there could be a lot of fun to be had with a small investment in writing a little bit of new content for CoX/V here and there. And the summer holidays would seem a good time to plan an event for. Admittedly, it would have to stand up to surviving over a longer period than, say, the Christmas event (roughly 3 weeks) but not every new event needs to have a new type of farmable currency attached to it.

To celebrate Independence day, give all characters a 10 charge roman candle that fires into the sky and explodes into nifty fireworks. That way, all the players can work together to create a celebration display.
