Has this server died?

I left for a couple months and came back for a month. I find it impossible to find a team or even anyone in the game. What happened? Didn't this use to be the third popular server?

Really? I did a few task forces this weekend. I don't recall being solo for any of them.

Still third? Off and on. We still jockey for position with Justice a lot of the time.

With the free server transfers, pretty much anyone who has complaints about the population (on ANY server) have moved to Freedom. Definitely the PvP'ers went there.

Ahh i see. I just haven't been on the server in a while and when I came back. It just seemed a bit dry. I made a new toon and I found it impossible to find anyone around my level

Standard blah, blah, blah about "missions are instanced", "people don't stand around AP any more because of the AE chatter (which is now gone, but people moved on)", "last weekend was a holiday weekend - lotsa parties, lotsa football".

Seriously, it depends a lot on the time of day where Infinity falls on the roster, but for the above reasons & others, apparent activity in the streets (and likely on the Team Search tool) was probably down across the board for the entire period between Christmas & New Year's Day weekends.

That said, the population - at least, when I've had the chance to check the positions based on server load - is lower than it used to be and is typically near the middle of the list instead of 3rd, maybe 4th, like it was.

There are still teams out there and it's hardly dead, but I think the combination of free transfers, other options for free time, and a "wake me when Going Rogue hits" malaise has caused a drop in population on this specific server.

Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

CoX unfortunately, is getting boring.

Funily enough the population seems to have increased slightly since the free transfers became available. Apart from that though from direct experience of playing every week on this server for the last two years then yes the number of people you see running around and have available to team with has dropped significantly.

To the OP (sorry for interrupting the fun)

A lot of it has to do with networking. I've been a little asocial in game as of late (like the past 6 months), so my global list has diminished. The key to finding the server lively (and what I haven't done) is join an active SG or VG, and aggressively seek to make friends. As a brute, that means you're threatening to Knockout Blow them if they don't add you to their Global.

With all of that said, the devs have offered an opportunity to see the world of CoH and all the various communities. Each one certainly will have advantages and disadvantages to it. While I'll keep infinity as my home, I am branching out to others to explore.
