None of these primaries can deal a lot of ST damage in a short amount of time. If you want ST burst damage go ice or fire, these really aint good ST damage dealing primarys.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know they aren't the best, but as I've said, I've done Ice and Fire.
[ QUOTE ]
What you need to go with /Thermal is another /Thermal..
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, when you have two Thermals your primary doesn't matter so much, but it's not permanent so you may as well make the best out of your choices... -
Solo, Kinetics can be tough.
However, in the space of about 2 weeks (solid PVP) I managed to get 300 rep on my Fire/Kin Corruptor in RV, while pillboxing, due to SBing heavies
On the attack front, focus on Single Target damage, and animation times are also very important. Shoving out damage quickly over a long period of time is your best bet on a Defender, instead of short period burst damage.
On the Kinetic side of things, my tactic in a 1v1 situation was to just spam Siphon Speed, Siphon Power, and Fulcrum as much as possible (while running around the slowed target) until all debuffs and buffs were at their cap, and then I started to attack. Draining endurance with 3 slotted Transference is also a great tactic for detoggling enemies.
As a Defender, you will pretty much always be targetted first, so picking Superspeed with SJ and Acrobatics will be useful. I also find Teleport great on my Defender (even if I needed to pick it for In Character reasons) for getting in and out instantly. -
Hi there. After playing my Fire/Kin Corruptor to 50 soon after the Villain level cap was increased, I think it is time I make a new one.
I am planning to make a Thermal, and was wondering what everyone has found to be good in high level PVP with it?
I have already played a Dark Blast Defender as well as an Ice Blast Corruptor, and of course my Fire Corruptor. I am not keen on taking Assault Rifle because I can't stand the redraw it would come with, and I don't particularly like Energy... so it leaves me with Radiation or Sonics.
Both come with a stun, and although Sonic's is longer ranged, Radiation's has "Extreme" damage. To me, those good points and bad points cancel eachother out, so basically, what can shove out the most amount of ST damage in a short amount of time?
Thanks. -
Fire/Energy has the potential to be amazing in PVP. Fire has a large damage aspect to it with Imps, and you get huge control with extra stuns from energy and power boost.
Stick with it -

I second that.
Sorry, but seeing as I don't have a clue who you are and this is definately making my Scammy sense tingle, I won't be donating.
Good luck though. -
I always pick Assault over Maneuvers, I feel the defence bonus to be stupidly poor, especially with no other defence buffs.
Power Boost can be good in dire teams, but (in PVP especially) a Hold and Telekin are definately your best bets. -
TBH I find chance of lethal damage useless... not only because it is very low DPS, but also because as Smashing Damage, I'd rather have something less resisted than lethal...
And as for why I picked Boxing, it's only for tough... without it I get killed a lot faster, and slotted for the +recharge to all powers from Stupefy. -
Well it seems your friend hasn't played a SS/Fire up to high levels before. Sure, Fire's resistances are a bit behind others. That is a very small price to pay for an extra build up, burn, and +endurance. The heal it gives makes up for any damage you may take, especially if you're properly slotted.
My SS/Fire is the easiest thing I have ever played since the EU release of CoH. However, /elec is also great for soloing, especially if you manage to pick up Aid Self. The Godmode owns, which is, imo, the only thing lacking in Fiery Aura.
I think Superstrength is the way to go for straight forward levelling. -
Hi, just done this build for my Brute on Mid's builder, any ideas?
It is a 50 spec, not levelling, and is used for both PVE and PVP (Zonal and 1v1)

Defiance is very poor in my opinion, I have seen it used very effectively by one player, although it may be considered "cheap".
There used to be an AR/Devs blaster in Siren's that would simply keep falling from the sky (while invised) for one health, then just snipe with full defiance. They had no Build Up or Aim, but it didn't seem to matter...
Other than that, I've never used it properly. By the time your health is low enough for you to do some serious damage, you have been Brawled and are now flat on the floor. -
Well the snipes (IIRC) with BU and hide do the same as a Blasters normal snipe.. I think.
It can be useful for soloing although as a Stalker you shouldn't have too much trouble with solo-sized mobs anyway.
If you want a pool for PVP, take Black Scorpion. The mace draw-out animation can be annoying if you plan to use the range attack etc a lot, but the Hold from it is better than the others in PVP, what with -jump and -fly. -
I am really not going to read through this whole thread, as these are always the same.
However, I must agree with TG on this one.
In my opinion, anything goes, including inspirations. However, this also means that people disagreeing with the use of them is OK. What else is the ignore option for?
PVP on COH should be amazing, but the immaturity of most of the players amazes me. TBH, I reckon it has even gone far enough for the Devs to take a page out of WoW's book, and stop all communication between enemies in PVP Zones. Stops the endless rants that go on whenever you're inside. -

As you can see, I dont have stealth. It's not of much use. I'd replace it with flashing steel tbh. Divine avalanche isnt really worth slotting for damage, you're better off with defence set.

DSorrow loves his Kat/Inv, but I hate mine. We talk about it a bit and nothing can sway me away from thinking how terrible mine is. I'm afraid the only advice I can give is...stop trying. Sorry. -
Yeah I don't know what happened with AS slotting there, either I clicked it wrong or it bugged.. but I meant to have 3 damage :P
And also, I said I would fit stealth in at 30, and it was a mistake -
Been thinking about rolling an EM/SR Stalker, thought I'd ask for build advice here This is a quick one I have come up with... (Edit- Stealth meant to be fitted in at 30)

OK, I don't know any special numbers or formulas, but I've been playing from the release and here's what I always do.
Level 1-2, grind. Takes about 5 white minions and helps you know what you're doing before you steam into a mission. Level 2-10, Mission. Mostly solo, however if you're playing something difficult to solo at that low level, see if any friends want to join you.
Seeing as you're talking about villains, I will describe what I do on there. After level 8, I head to Port Oakes. There are some decent teams there but I prefer to solo, as most are very poor. At level 13/14 I head to Cap Au Diable. Then, it's big teams all the way. A well organised 8 man team will get you the most XP ever. I hardly ever solo after level 15, and I've got my toons to 50 in relatively low hours.
[edit] Or if you REALLY wanna speed things up, ask Globe to take you on one of his level 53 Rikti Portal farming missions from level 1 -

Rad is not the best pick for zones, but it's the best for duels. Illusion imo is the worst primary for duels, but it works quite well in zones. Mind's tk is so overpowered that it would be my first pick for zones, tho. For duels ice or fire. As a secondary, /rad for duels and probably sonic or ff for zones (also empath if I planned to team usually)

Well about illusion... maybe you just haven't duelled any good ones :P Confuse is probably the most annoying thing I have ever fought. More annoying from Illusion than Mind, too- against Mind all you have to do is keep spamming an attack until it hits, but against an Illusion you have 5 targets in front of you- Phantoms, Phantasm, and your actual target...
I'm also against Mind simply because of the lack of pets, and that's it :P -
Yeah that's pretty much what I thought...
You should try kin in PVP though :P At least it works on my Corruptor ^^
Thanks! -
Don't forget that magic Accolade ; ) With a SB and IOs, I reckon you could probably manage 5 :P

Hi there. Ever since the release of EU CoH I have been very interested in pursuing a Controller, but have just not had the patience to get one past level 30. As an avid PVPer, I think PVP should have a big impact on my powersets. However, I have a relatively simple question.
I have always thought that Fire controllers were, generally, best in PVP. But after doing some arena against and Illusion, I'm not too sure. Decoys, Fear, and Confuse are all much more useful in PVP than anywhere else, and now I have no idea which I should pick. I was thinking of going for either Illusion/Rad or Fire/Rad, but to be honest, I'd rather let you experienced Controllers point me in the right direction
I am most interested in zone PVP, but sometimes I enjoy some arena or 1 on 1s. Any help? -
Yeah, you could be good at low levels as a healer, but at high levels, /Thermal is amazing in a 1 v 1. Anything you fight will be debuffed to hell and back and be out of endurance within seconds... Rad/Thermal can be amazing at high levels, so I'd concentrate on getting there rather than stopping in the 20s and only healing in Siren's.

Stone is amazing mez-work, but Imps are unbelievable for damage. With two Rad debuffs and two AMs for recharge/endurance you two should be unstoppable.
Good luck and have fun
