A good solo combo with SS I'd recommend is SS/elec. Elec has resistances to every type of damage except toxic and it has good endurance management (conserve energy, end drain) and a good godmode power. Also with lightning reflexes you can easily get perma rage.
Just be sure to get aid self if the lack of heal puts you off.

Fire doesn't have good resistances, fire does have a freequent fast uninteruptable heal. It also has Burn which with an imob at level 41 becomes damage mitigation in the way nothing is standing to fight you

I would like some advice on what kind of brute to pick for pure PvE action. I will be solo 90% of the time and only grouping if and when it is required.
Now i have leveled a SS/Fire brute to 26 in the past on my old account and i thouroughly enjoyed that playstyle, and i ploughed through every mission i had with no problems. However, i was talking to my friend earlier who has a 42 corruptor and he was telling me that although SS/Fire is a fun build and easy to level it'll also become much much tougher at higher levels because the fire secondary wont offer any resistances to the new damage types i would be facing.
Mainly the only reason i chose fire anyway is for the heal and endurance drain. So, are there any other more obvious choices to pick from for pure PVEing?
Im a really big fan of SS although im willing to try out another set if its preferred.

Ok i will start -
All my own oppinions with 30+ months CoX experience.
My 1st Villian Was A Fire/Fire Brute.
Ok - Lvl 1- 22 You will have bad Endurance (End) Dain, so what i did before sloting any Dmg was to Slot 1-2 End reductions & 1-2 Acc's.
Then as you team more swap 1 End reduction & add 1 Dmg Ench.
IO's Help ALOT Bm can be your best friend

Imo Fire/Fire is the ultimate PvE Build (Not to bad @ PvP Either)
Powerpools i took-
Fitnes - lvl 7 for Swift/Heal/Get Endurance @ Lvl 21.
Leaping - Lvl 10ish for/Combat Jump +Defance/Superjump - get Around Fast.
TIP! Dont take the 1st attack tottal wast of time Takes End with allmost 0 Dmg!
Another good PvE Build that i am working on atm -
Energy/Melle/ElecArmour. PvE/PvE Build.
Basically the same as above with Elec Armour you get Elec feld instead of Blazing Aura Ect, with the same end problem's first to, but if you allways team you shuold have no end problems.
With EneryMelle is is better suited to hit 1 target (not as many AOE's as Fire) But is is a good PvE/PvP Build because Energy work well in PvP Situation's.
And Another which is probebbly better all round PvE
Either -
Elec/Fire Or Elec/Elec.
Elec/Elec is probably best but BAD End drain on Elec Elec untill late 20's.

Okay, ill give u 1 advice... Wait a month to i11 gets onlive and grabb a Stone/WP or a DB/Dark...
Those two are my bets of FotM on December
If you want PvE go super strength/fire armor. If you want pvp, wait for energy melee/willpower. Good pvp combo sets are also the EM/elec, SS/elec, SS/fire works too and EM/fire.
Im not very agree with */WP will be good in pvp, IMHO it has a hole against burst dmg, and that is what pvp is about..
But ey, its just my opinion ;D
Well it seems your friend hasn't played a SS/Fire up to high levels before. Sure, Fire's resistances are a bit behind others. That is a very small price to pay for an extra build up, burn, and +endurance. The heal it gives makes up for any damage you may take, especially if you're properly slotted.
My SS/Fire is the easiest thing I have ever played since the EU release of CoH. However, /elec is also great for soloing, especially if you manage to pick up Aid Self. The Godmode owns, which is, imo, the only thing lacking in Fiery Aura.
I think Superstrength is the way to go for straight forward levelling.
