I'm guessing you are referring to my comparison of Anthony to Pratchett. The jury is still out on that until/unless I read more Pratchett, but Anthony's greatest weakness was making a universe and creating a few good stories and then beating that horse to death. Although I admit I haven't read Piers Anthony in a long time, he created a few really great universes (Xanth, Bio of a Space Tyrant, Apprentice, etc.) I did re-read the Battle Circle series recently and thought that he starts to lose steam after the second novel. Then again, I can't blame anyone (Anthony or Pratchett) for writing novels that they know that die-hard fans are certain to read/buy!
Thanks again! -
Quote:I really enjoyed Small Gods. Reaper Man, not so much. I felt the former really worked well as a stand alone novel, but (in my opinion) the latter relied too much on other characters and themes that Pratchett has been developing for years and years, and that is one of the reasons I had been avoiding reading himThe three I mentioned above as my favorites: Reaper Man, Small Gods, Feet of Clay. All three have humor, but all three are about very deep ideas.
WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?
YOU HAVE PERHAPS HEARD THE PHRASE THAT HELL IS OTHER PEOPLE?
Yes, of course.
IN TIME YOU WILL LEARN THAT IT IS WRONG.
You Own Yourself.
I think I prefer Iain Banks's "Culture" novels, which also share a great sense of humor (albeit in a science fiction setting rather than fantasy). Each one works off an established premise, but each one seems to stand on its own.
Thank you for the recommendations! -
I am interested to see how this works out. I considered something similar, but more of a fixed fee plus a daily charge if cashing in the merits took more than one day.

The irony here is that he is getting all annoyed because people like his work. Maybe he should suck harder at what he does.

Thanks folks, I put in a few holds at my library on some of the Pratchett works based on your recommendations. I hope that they will be better than the Anthony "Xanth" series which I really enjoyed for the first few, twenty odd years ago. Then I got really bored with them, so hopefully this won't happen.
When I read Good Omens, it seemed to be pretty easy to tell when Gaiman was writing and when Pratchett was writing, so I'm looking forward to reading some of Pratchett's finest! -
I'll be interested to see what your take away is at the end of this. My guess: some rare things are valuable, some are next to useless.
Have you considered taking out the crafted ones as well? -
Gaiman is wonderful, but I've never read much Pratchett. My initial impression was that he was a poor man's Piers Anthony, what with the hyuk-yuk-yuk comedy and the punning in a fantasy setting. What should I read to disabuse me of this notion?

They meant it to be more "Taxi Driver" than "Spider-Man", but I agree it felt a little flat. Although I loved Nathan Fillion's brief role.

Mine just hit 33, and I love it. I never expected the pet to be so sturdy. It is a hardy strain.

Ow ow ow owie! How does one even make that big of an error? Was it human error or due to the interface bug?

I'm kind of a tough critic, but I thought the story was a little disappointing to comic fans and didn't stand well on its own for those who aren't comic fans and wanted to see a stand-alone action movie. I would have liked to see character development that really wasn't there, and the continuity was meh at best. I also thought the special effects were awful and looked like they were cobbled together from a couple of movies from the last ten years. I half expected to see a quick cameo of Jar-Jar Binks as Beta Ray Bill.
But like I said, I am a tough critic. I'd give it a C+. YMMV.
(For reference: to me, Iron Man was an A+, Spider-Man an A-, Iron Man 2 a B+, Ang Lee's Hulk a C-, Ed Norton's Hulk a B+. I couldn't bring myself to watch Ghost Rider.)
Looking forward to Captain America though! -
I think I am in the minority here from most people, but I thought it was Thorrible(tm).

I was kind of annoyed when I realized you can't convert three of them to a different super inspiration. Unless I'm doing something wrong. Which is certainly possible.

I agree with many of the previous posters -- I think that recent price reductions are due mostly to people playing on trials and dumping their drops on the market.

If you want to sell it for more, no problems, thanks!
I'm willing to pay 1.85bn cash for a lvl 50. For those of you who are selling for 2bn on the marketplace, you are only netting 1.8bn! I can offer you 50mm more! Send PM pls.
For those of you who are looking for more, good luck to you! -
Just look at this guy. He is not giving out jobs right and left. He needs a footstomp! -
I've had a grav/storm troller for a long time that I primarily soloed to 50. Always was a ton of fun, but felt kind of "meh" until recent issues started to open up the "post-50" game. One thing that used to me is that gravity immob does NOT have -kb, so locking a group down with your AoE immob only lasts until Singy or your tornado comes by to swat them around. It adds chaos, which is always fun, but it often annoys teammates who were setting up that PBAoE attack. It also takes away from the single target damage capability of tornado, since tornado doesn't do damage until it catches up with the rag doll again. Gravity and electricity control, IIRC, are the only two controller primaries that do NOT have -kb in their group immobs (illusion and mind don't have group immobs).
Fire/storm probably meets your stated needs best if you want to have a modicum of control over the chaos.
I've been working on a plant/storm that is around 25 (love it), and I'd like to try a fire/ storm at some point. -

I'd like to see them all put up in Ouroboros via flashback just like the original Positron was.
