Hmm. I'll have to get an off-hand (e.g. unofficial, unvetted) comment made at the PAX meetup clarified then, they mentioned being in a different position than Paragon when questioned about the closure.

That's because they're using "better" security for Aion/GW2 than the standard Master Account system can provide - whether it is ACTUALLY better remains to be seen. Humans are clever and security is never proactive - it's always a reaction to what has already been done/is being done now.

Neither does Paragon. They're in SoCal. And California has some of the *best* laws regarding employees in the country.
  3. I will admit to a few loregasms in the past year or so of writing. Several "*GASP AND CLASP HANDS TO MOUTH CONVULSIVELY*" moments.

Please note that it does not say *NCSOFT* has the option of buying stocks. It says that *ARENANET* has the option of buy stocks.

ArenaNet is an individual studio, not under NCsoft; it is simply using NCsoft as its publisher, similar to Cryptic before the IP sale. Cryptic was a separate entity, only partially beholden to NCsoft's bottom line. Paragon Studios was formed and owned by NCsoft; it was 100% beholden to NCsoft.

I find it somewhat telling that ArenaNet are not using NCsoft for the Chinese launch, unless NCsoft does not publish to China. (I don't pay attention to Asian gaming. I don't plan on ever gaming in Asia.)
  5. I played CO in beta and just after it first came out...I just can't handle the art style. I know it's supposed to be 'comic-y' and 'stylistic' but it just looks....janky to me. It looks unfinished.

I'm sorry, CO; while I appreciate the offer, I cannot accept.
  6. Consolidating servers in City would have done nothing; they are all virtualized so they share resources; if a server needs more, it takes more temporarily to cover the load, then it gives it back up when the load dies down. Closing a server would just mean you gutted part of your community for no reason.
  7. You never owned the game, they never said you owned the game, that was an assumption on your part. You never bought rights to play the game forever. You bought the privilege of leasing their product while it was functioning. It says in the contract (paraphrasing) they can end your participation at any time, for any reason; this includes closing the game.

Have you never participated in the end of an online game before? You're throwing a hissy fit over stupid assumptions.

Just wondering cause I have put off everything else to live the last days of Villainy on Victory with my friends and family I have made there over the years.
Two different posters have mentioned that their subs expired on the 1st and they are still capable of doing everything VIP, including incarnates and full forum access and etc. So it seems like whatever account status you were on Aug 31, you keep it for the duration.

However, this doesn't preclude them pushing everyone to VIP later on; they've said they have some surprises in store.
  9. The oldest post of mine I can find is eight months after I registered for the forums (which was three months after I started playing) and I'm talking pretty coherently about the game so I *know* I'm missing tons of older posts.
  10. If you ever see someone named "Aggelakis", "Agge", or "Agkelas", chances are pretty darn good it's me. Say hi and mention you're from City. I will stop for you.
  11. Nnnno, you've already used what you paid for. You can only get refunded for what you haven't/can't use.
  12. I'm in TSW as Agge and Aggelakis (no surprise there) so feel free to friend me and talk **** about my terrible reaction time. (box purchase + sub)

I'm in GW2 as Agge, Aggelakis, and Agkelas (still no surprise) on Gunnar's Hold, an EU server. I can't wait until they implement server guesting so I can log in during NA prime time and still be able to team up with folks - on another server. (F2P after box purchase)

I'm in the Firefall beta as Agge (biiiiig surprise! oh wait--no) and have already slapped down the money for a founder's package. I love this game so much and it makes absolutely no sense because I am *terrible* at shooters. (F2P, full stop)

I am desperately waiting for WildStar to come out, but according to the meet and greet Sunday, they're probably two years out still - minimum of one, anyway. (they haven't decided their sub model because - well - not even out of friends-and-family beta!)

There are plenty of games I can fall back on, but none of them touch my heart like City does. I am hoping one of them catches my interest once the shock, dismay, and hurt fades from this gaping wound NCsoft gave me.

The devs spent time working on stuff. I say for the last week of the game, they unlock every powerset they had in the pipeline that never made it to Beta on the markets for free.

Bio Armor, Rad Melee, Psi Melee, Savage Melee, Wind Control, Gadgetry, etc.

Anything they can just push to live for fun, kind of like how the end of SWG let you turn yourself into any in-game model.
None of those except Bio Armor are in a completed state; half of them are literally just the numbers.
  14. I think something like Steelclaw's epitaph would be a-*******-mazing and heart/gutwrenching.

I heard that development team forum access was revoked after the layoff (community team seems to be retaining redname until the forums are pulled). Positron, WW, Dr. A, and a few others posted farewells that're stickied at the top of this forum though. Don't know if that means they got temporary or permanent access back, or if it means they just haven't posted or aren't allowed to.
  16. There is not a damn thing I won't miss in this game.

Yeah, this. Common sense ain't so common in meltdown mode, apparently.
  18. Just going down the list. Just coincidence (FOR NOW).
  19. Aggelakis

    City of Cute

I may or may not remember... *looks at avatar*

However, I have lost my 'originals' in a hard drive failure and would love replacements!
  20. Aggelakis

    Epitath

    Oh, Steelclaw. *sob*
  21. I have a lifetime sub to Secret World (same name as usual) and I've seen some promising stuff at PAX this weekend. I have up to three months to decide what I'm going to do. I can't spend all of it crying, can I?
  22. There's Bio Armor fixes on the test server right now, which indicates that it's probably going live before i24. No guarantees though.
  23. I just got four codes (main account, two secondary accounts, fiance's account) so there's definitely a lot left. I recommend picking randomly from the middle, not from the top or bottom.
