Well, isn't that nice of you. You "give an option" for your SG members to spend money to follow your lead or give up whatever work they have put into the SG.

Get the Natural Booster Pack for the Ninja Run - that's a very fun run/jump pseudo travel power.

You can't have both a cape and wings on the same costume BTW. I can't tell whether that was what you wanted to do, but since they are mentioned in the same post...

You can have a cape on one costume and wings on your second one. Serge in Icon gives your the hunt mission to get the second costume slot opened.

Maybe more than you were asking, but I thought I would repeat it just in case.
  6. I haven't decided who changes yet. I am reserving that decision until I know the mechanics that will be involved, but I will be moving a few characters in both directions.
  7. Frosty isn't really all that tough if you bring a few Insps like MB suggested AND you get to him before he gets his Fire Imps. At level 13, it's completely possible to solo him, at least on a Blaster and I'm assuming on a Scrapper or Rad defender with debuffs. Been there, done that.

For me, the secret to dealing with FF is to hit him while I'm in the low teens.

As for the need for Dr. Q, I think that Incarnate status should be something relatively difficult to obtain, which would be right up that alley.

    Thanks again for your feedback.
Dr. Q isn't "relatively difficult" in terms of anything other than a massive time commitment playing thru an overblown, bloated TF that could be edited down to something much more palatable.

So in its present form, I also vote "no" to requiring it for anything at all other than the "boasting rights" that you slogged thru it.

Regarding your points about bringing back to CoP trial and base raiding - while obviously some players would love to have these back, you have muddied your suggestion of Incarnate implementation by including them.

I also thought you were trying to limit the availability of Incarnates to those who were part of large active SGs who could complete the CoP trial - which would mean that my various alts would have very limited access to Incarnates as they are mainly in SGs consisting of the characters played by a couple of players.

If it is still possible to edit your original post, I would suggest that you make it more clear that completion of the CoP would not be a requirement under your suggestion of how to implement Incarnates.

But really, given general software development timeframes, I am guessing that your idea cannot be part of what we will see for GoRo in July 2010 (only 4 months away). Possibly as an alternate path at a later date. I would think that the Devs have a pretty solid picture of Incarnates by now. And if they hadn't already included Rularuu and the Shard in those plans, it's too late now.

I heard a fair number used the free serv tranfers to rename old toons (I did, too). Well, if they dont sell well, maybe it's time for some free rename tokens or even a renaming mechanism ingame (like, talk to this guy to change your hero/villain id, just like trial respecs).
I've purchased some rename tokens. The cost was trivial to me at the time (well before the free server transfers) and I was having trouble coming up with the exact name I liked.

I also purchased some server transfers, again the cost was trivial at the time and I was rebalancing my multiple small SGs across threee different servers.

I haven't needed to rename a character for some time now, though I wouldn't mind seeing something free. But in answer to your question, yes some people do buy rename tokens.

edit. That's not to say that there's nothing in the game that is "uncasual"....you're not gonna duo Hami, and it's just rude to team if you're gonna be afk randomly for who knows how long, but that aside...why are you so convinced that there gonna put in a progression system completely counter to the rest of the progression in the game.?
I think you are attributing a much stronger feeling to my post than I meant to put in it.

I don't have much experience in other MMOs (basically just being in the same room while my husband is playing WoW or discussing it with his friends). And then there are the umpty-bajillion threads/suggestions here that seem to say that WoW-style raids are what is meant by End Game.

If that type of activity is NOT what is meant by End Game, then what is? This is a serious question, since the primary use of the term as I have seen it here (in Player Questions asking "why is there no End Game?' or "where is the End Game?" and in Suggestions and Ideas suggesting that the Devs should add End Game, which nigh invariably ends up meaning WoW-style raids) is what I dread seeing added.

Am I "convinced" that is what is being added? Perhaps not, but I have no other frame of reference to go by.

Oh and by the way - if that "rude" parent who may need to go afk advises me at the get-go that interruptions might happen - that's not rude, that's courteous, and I will happily team with such a player if I know the situation. Parents like teaming, too.

There are a few other words for "Black" and for "Rabbit" as well.

How about Lapin Sable? Lapin Noir? Obsidian Rabbit? Sable Bunny?

Use synonyms - you might even find something with a neat alliterative ring to it.
  13. More zones to play in heroside (Cimerora, RWZ, new Faultline, new Hollows)

Bonus XP for missions vs street sweeping

Additional ways to get around besides running to the tram or the ferry (Ouro portal, Pocket, Midnighter Club)

Missions are all instances other than the relatively few hunts (which can be dropped)

Closed beta for Issue 17 sucked off a goodly number of players

Slow time that happens in the lull between issues

Many (hard to know how many) people are hidden at any given time.
Doing a Team search or/sea is not a reliable way of determining how many players are on because of the new options for hiding.

    It's Tuesday.

Any and all of the above plus several things I must be forgetting.

Join the global channel most used on Victory (usually found by visiting the server forum) and you will find those missing people.

Or see the forming a team guide in Westley's sig.
  14. Sometimes there are TFs or SFs announced ahead of time on the forums. Depending on who is leading them, I have found some nice opportunities for light RP on them, in particular, those led by the Taxibots on Infinity on Saturday afternoons.

PuG TFs can be fun as well, but not necessarily for someone who wants to follow the storyline. Generally, the announced-in-advance ones will state whether they are done for speed, etc., which gives you a chance to run content at the speed you want to do it.

I think they offer the best of both static teams and PuGs.

Check out your server's forum or the Player Events forum to see what you can find there.
  15. MY EYES!

It's a fascinating train wreck of a vid, I will grant you that.

Plus, you dance pretty good for a white boy.
  16. My sister has a character (dark/dark scrapper, IIRC, but possibly a dark/dark def) ironically called "Miss Darkity Dark Dark".

Shorter and possible in the character naming space.

She hasn't played her in probably 3 years or so, though.

Why should the game change it's playstyle to fit your needs, and not the other way around? You say you don't like endgame content as it has been done in other games. Even if something similar creeps in to CoH, why does that matter to the rest of us? YOU don't like it, so don't do that content. The rest of the game won't change, and you've been happily rolling alts and reliving content for howeverlong you've been playing. End-game won't change that a bit. Why does every piece of gameplay have to suit every playstyle out there? It's impossible to please everyone. I don't complain when there's attention being given to PvP, when I don't generally do it. I don't pay attention to how other players spend billions on builds for their characters when mine use generics and perform better than average on their own. There's a piece of this game for everyone to enjoy and spend their time in. End Game can be one of those (one that a lot of players have been wanting) and even if it's not executed how you'd like it, so what? You get by fine without it right now. If I were a Dev, I'd try to make the majority happy with new content I'd been working on, but I'd know that there would always be people out there that would hate it. It shouldn't stop me from making what I, and many, many other players, thought was fun.
Fine - as long as there is an alternate way for me to play thru the Incarnate content. I currently happily ignore Bloody Bay and the rest and could ignore End Game Raiding - so long as there is roughly equivalent alternate content out there. And by "roughly equivalent", I mean available to soloer or small teams rather than mega teams or teams made "the correct way", even if it's slower or takes more missions or whatever.

If I can't become Incarnate and get the same benefits if I don't raid, then I'm going to be very unhappy.

Also, since there are already other games out there that have the big mega raid end game - go play them for that type of content. City has broken the mold of those games, so it shouldn't need to go copy them now without at least some attempt at maintaining it's casual playstyle for the soloer or duoer or parent who plays between taking care of the kids or person who can only play 30-45 minutes because there's homework or whatever.

Endgame is what drives me away from other games and keeps me in CoX.

In other games, there are no powersets or character concepts. One max level warrior or priest is potentially the same as another. If there are chosen abilities, it's usually possible to choose an entirely different set for a relatively small fee. No point in rolling a new character of a different race, and not much of a different faction. Once you're out of the starting area it's the same content everywhere. You have to be deeply disappointed with your class to reroll another; otherwise time spent on alt is time you're wasting not developing your "main".

CoX obscures the distinction between mains and alts; your main is the character that you are most interested in developing this week. It instead allows you to experience the same content in different ways. There are significant differences between power sets of a same broad character class. A Fire Armor tanker plays very different than a Stone Armor tanker. The duties of a Radiation defender and a Kinetics defender are quite different as well. And you can't turn your Fire tanker into a Stone: you have to create a new character.

The player base of CoX is sweetness and light compared to the player base of other games. The relative lack of prominence of loot is significant, I believe. For a long time, there simply was no loot: all enhancement rewards were simply bought from vendors with the game's only currency. When they added loot of a sort, they did it right. Loot was personal, private, and the actual enhancement kinds were transferrable. No one had to boast about valuable drops, if you want to keep them a secret, no one can know to envy you. And there were none of the political hassles involving random rolls, team leaders assigning prizes, or "need vs. greed" mechanics.

Loot and raiding endgames in other games are another kind of PvP. They are in fact the worst kind of PvP. This kind of PvP pits you against your teammates - against the people you are nominally teamed up with to beat the content. Judgments will be made about the value of your service to the organization, about your commitment. Disagreements fester. Office politics invades the game world.

I can categorically say that I absolutely do not want any of this kind of crap in City of Heroes. My fear is that they will somehow break the game by adding "endgame", and that the same kind of politics and drama that drove me away from other games will be imported here.

Please tell me it ain't so.

Pretty much every other MMO ever. Let's hope Paragon Studios have more sense than to foist this on their own playerbase.

Here's a suggestion for future development - let people looking for more challenge scale their difficulty up without taking away my ability to scale it back down. Scaling rewards are perfectly fine with me.
I am glad that I am not the only one kinda dreading the addition of "END GAME". End Game to me means the massive raids & such in WoW - which make entertaining YouTube videos, but most certainly are NOT what I want in my own MMO of Choice.

So I was pretty dismayed when I saw that Posi had been tasked with coming up with End Game content. I'm just hoping he can think far enough outside the box of the traditional MMO End Game (to the extent that there is something traditional in something that is less than 20-odd years old).

But even if he ends up adding stupid raids, I'm crossing my fingers that we can still enjoy teams elsewhere than raids in our owm favorite MMO.

Datamining seems to show that the EATs are not as popular as the other ATs. For one thing, even today, there are lots of players who don't have a level 50 character to unlock them. I know I still don't have a level 50 villain, even though I started my highest level villain on CoV pre-start weekend.

Coming soon (Issue 17 IIRC, but at least in GR at the latest), the EATs on both sides will be available after a player has a level 20 character in the appropriate faction. Yay! I will finally be able to play around with SoAs!

It's marked on the map in Kings Row, Talos Island & Founders Falls for heroes. I know the one in KR is in the back of a truck down the hill from Blue Shield, the Talos one is net to the Freedom Corps store in another storefront, and the FF one is under a bridge. I am assuming that it is also marked on the Villain maps (one is Port Oakes just up from the ferry from Mercy) - but since I also have the Good vs. Evil item pack, I just use my Pocket D VIP Pass to 'port directly to the Tiki Lounge.

The GvsE pack was a good buy for that reason alone.

Another thing going on right now is the Closed Beta for Issue 17 on the Test Server. If it's anything like the last few CBs - lots of people who would regularly be on the Live Servers are actually over there, especially since one of the big things to come in Issue 17 is the new Ultra Mode, a kewl graphics update for those whose comps can support it.

Make sure you go check out the Going Rogue webpage:

As always, the Wiki is your friend (make sure you use the Wiki *not* the "Wikia", which is not updated and is the haven of bad stuff like adware)

Specifically the changes in each issue:

    http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/gam...ssue_list.html

Stuff added in the past 2 years (since 2008?)

    Multiple Builds

    Levelling Pacts
New Hero TF & Villain SF
    Dominator Revamp
    POWER CUSTOMIZATION!

Soon to come in Issue 17 (April)

    Ultra Mode
New Hero & Villain Story Arcs
Splitting the Positron TF into 2 TFs
Changes to emails (sending stuff to yourself)
    Tons of Badges

Pinnacle does still have a decent-sized population, but your will need to get the mosr popular globals to help out - I thinks it's "PinnBadges", but check the server forum to be sure.

If you do decide to move your level 50s - you missed the recent free server transfers (which ran thru January & February, ending after Double XP the first weekend in March), but there is the paid option ($9.99) if you still want to move.

With Issue 17 about to drop next month and then GR towards the end of July, it's an exciting time to come back.

    Welcome back!
  23. Honestly, the buff is so small that I generally try to match costumes (both the theme and the color) when choosing the pets.

I suppose if I do have a preference, I generally pick the "defense" one for squishies.
  24. 1) Yes

    2) Yes

    3) I really don't know.

I just found a cheap box of the Architect edition that I'm going to use to update my husband's account for the same reason you are using the Mack pack. With the free month, it cost me only a couple of bucks more than his usual minthly fee.
  25. What do I think about it?

First of all, I think about the same thing I have thought of in the past 2 dozen threads on roughly the same topic.

Secondly, that thought is "Hurray! My altoholism is being rewarded!" It took me almost three years to get a single alt to 50 heroside. I'm still 4 tough levels away from that point villainside (on a character I started on CoV pre-start weekend, no less).

Yeah, some folks got characters to 50 multiple times while I was playing around with my variety of characters. But I kinda like to think that I learned the game as well as they did (if not better since I was playing a Blaster and a Tanker and a Controller and a Scrapper and a Defender in multiple iterations of each, which is somewhat helpful since a Kheld can fill so many different roles on a team).

So, I'm really pretty happy about their decision all in all.
