I forget if you're given a rename or not.
Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Also, you have the ability to check if the name's already taken (there's a button on the server "page"), so you might want to check first. Surprises stink (in this case).

Do you always get a free rename token with a transfer or do you only get it if your current name is unavailable on the new server destination?
Only if the name is not available on the new server.
