Can you be a bad defender by attacking too much? Yes. Play a blaster instead since you don't really care for your role as support.
Can you be a bad defender by focusing too much on support? Yes. Play a controller instead since you ultimately are about support versus damage.
An /emp controller will run circles around any Emp defender who sacrifices their offense. An Emp defender who sacrifices their offense is a glorified leech. Glorified in how teammates keep giving them the empty praise of "Thanks for the heals" even when they aren't needed. Leech because they are offering so little of a contribution to killing part of the mobs size they helped create thus forcing teammates to do their dirty work for them while still getting the benefit of the kills. The difference between a door sitter and support only Emp is small. Really small.
The OP's build gets beaten badly by an Ill/emp controller. Grant Invisibility and Invisibility Ill already takes cover. Team Teleport is near useless these days with the Assemble the Team vet power. I can think of one mission where Team Fly would be useful. Maybe two. Maybe. -

Quote:There is no power, or enhancement that would make somebody a god throughout all levels. Again, there is a difference between players and their builds already in game. Going F2P isn't going to suddenly create the issue.Look I was giving an example, I was trying to say if a player had the extra cash and could buy a power, enhancement set. That could make them like gods throughout all levels. There are those that are competitive and like to compete with others. How can two players that are playing on a free account compete if one has more money to buy said powers, enhancement sets.
Also you have to remember that some do PvP in this game as well. Things like that could break the balance in this game. So that the devs would have to tune the game for those god powers. Making it harder for those that cannot get them.
I am not talking about just those things that affect incarnates. I am talking across the leveling portion of the game. -
I can start teams and send tells perfectly fine in two of the F2P games I have played. Both have VIP options as well.
-
It's the whole entitlement issue since people think they are somehow a special little snowflake.
-
Quote:You are stuck at +0x8 with bosses diff setting on the level 1 map, so it's only great exp for a period of time. Make a level 3 map and it fairly evens back out.Actually, since you're capped at 1, /dark and /ele have an almost an equal advantage (only lower by one point of damage off the damage auras). These maps give great xp all the way to 50 due to how fast stuff dies, so any combination of claws or db with an armor set that has a damage aura will have an incredibly easy time getting to 50.
-
Quote:You know you can get to 50 and get Incarnate stuff on SOs right? And really, one player having an advantage over another in a heavily based PvE game is? Oh right, meaningless. The wide differences of one build versus another already exist unless you have been blind to a level 50 slotted with SOs trying to compare to a level 50(+1) with a 10 billion influ/infamy build. Locking things like purples is F2P 101 type of stuff. It doesn't seem to be hurting DDO, or LotRO.I just hope that NCSoft has done it's homework on this hybrid model. Otherwise they could kill this game, if they were to put truly game changing items in the shop. Ones that would give players that have the extra cash, unfair advantages over the ones that do not have that kind of cash.

Quote:We've had dry spells like that before. If you toss in a issue around 5 months in there you are getting 3 in a year and that's rather typical. In all fairness, the time between 19 and 20 was pretty standard. 19.5 came out only a month after 19 came out. I'd feel a bit bummed if 20.5 was treated (in terms of issue release times) as a full blown issue because that would mean 21 is going to be 4 months after that. So then we'd have about 7 months in between 20 and 21... not sure how much I like that.
-
Quote:Praet. in it's current form isn't a 1-50 area so it's difficult to treat it as such. I could easily see once you have content for 1-50 in Praet. that one could also get a-merits as well. Plus, hopefully they can continue to add more TFs so there really is three full fledged options.Yeah, that's exactly my point.
So now we have these 3+ zones with all this content that's easily outleveled. Since we're drawing all these new players going F2P, they will play the new primal earth tutorials/zones and skip over Praetoria. The only way I could see this being a non-problem is to treat Loyalist/Resistance as their own independent alignments. This way, starting Praetoria isn't just a means to get to Primal Earth. This, of course, would conflict with the current end game content so I don't see this happening.
(looks at number of blue side TFs versus red side)
I mean, eventually. In our lifetimes. -

That's a rather narrow view of somebody rolling an alt onto a VIP server.

Quote:Granted I have IOed out and Incarnated the Kat/sr versus the Claws/regen that is just sitting at 50 with SO type slotting, but I would push the Kat/sr to 50 before the Claws/regen. /regen in it's current state is the loser of benefiting from IOs compared to other sets. Note the last part. It still gets better and is solid, but other sets benefit more from further investment. My Claws/regen solos fine for what I set it up against. It just requires more work than other sets. My DB/wp isn't high enough to say, but I can't say anything bad about it's potential either.1) My three 'mains', each in their 30s, are scrappers: claws/regen, katana/SR, dual blade/WP. Are those still more or less regarded as sensible pairings or did changes in the past years totally ruin any of these?
Please note, above all else play what is fun. My Claws/regen is my most sentimental character I have and that includes my namesake. One of the first, or 2nd tanks I get to 50 will be an Ice tank and Ice is deemed the red headed stepchild of armor sets for tanks these days. It's also fun for me and one of the easiest to get to 50 on SO type slotting. It just loses out in benefiting from IOs.
I soloed a Kin/nin stalker through Praet and I'm working on a Mind/fire. I don't recall either dying while solo. Praet. is quick and easy to solo through. The difficulties is being on teams and, or bumping the diff more than you should. Getting on a team and seeing one of those super zombie bosses at being purple to you will change your health bar in jaw dropping fashion with their double fisted attack. -
I use three servers as my main servers. I use one for the hardcore SG. There's simply no way I could ever Incarnate all that I have. Do I delete something I have no desire to Incarnate? Nope. I just level it to 50 if it isn't already and basically retire it. It's always there if I need it. Do I delete characters? Oh, hell yes. Not as many these days since I'm on so many severs and I tend to go back to certain builds and rediscover why I rolled them in the first place even if it's been 1-2 years.
How I weed through characters is based on how fun it is and what purpose does it serve. I deleted two Kins recently. Why? I still have 5 others so it's not like I'm lacking there. The Kin/rad really offered me nothing my Kin/sonic didn't already and the Kin/sonic is already 50. The Fire/kin was just because I felt like I was suppose to have one considering how many Kins I have rolled since starting out and then I found out I wasn't exactly fond of Fire. I rerolled both as /fire brutes to have my farmers for their respective servers. Even if the Fire/kin could farm, it's not nearly as fun as a SS/fire.
I also roll, don't roll, or delete characters based on how often certain ATs, or power sets are used. I would love to roll a Plant/fire/ice dom, but I have a level 50 Plant/storm/ice so I see no real point in rolling the dom. I would just play the controller instead. I axed a Plant/ta for a Widow due to already using Plant and TA elsewhere and me not having a SoA. Same thing deleting a scrapper for a stalker. I think Elec Melee and War Mace are the last two sets on my to do list that look like fun. -
-
I'll have to wait and see. It takes a lot for me to roll something new these days. I had an Elec buff set in my head, but I can see a number of the powers working for Time Manipulation outside of the obvious resist shields. I do think think it will be a Kin like set. It's an obvious idea that just sitting there waiting to be done. Somebody mentioned it in the defender thread, but I think a -recharge/+recharge type of Fulcrum would be an interesting tier 9. It's the idea I had for an Elec buff set as well.
-
You know, a big red ball on the VIP server would be sweet.

Default number of slots for a free account is 2.

You'll get better numbers from WP on a brute. I still prefer the recharges for Claws on a scrapper even if the damage is adjusted for brutes. Spin is awesome on a brute though.
-
What press are you reading? Typically there is mass love of Plant builds on the controller forum. Certainly Plant/storm is one of the more loved builds there. I have a level 50 myself. If you want to go Plant, I say Plant/storm with either /ice, or /fire for epic. I went /ice since it has better powers. The dom version would be Plant/fire/ice, or Plant/fire/fire. Visually it is one of the best parings. Seeds you get early so it develops quickly and just builds from there. Credible control, damage, debuffs, and can be built to be rather defensive if you wish via epics and the Incarnate system.
-
I think it was level 25 were I got a comfortable amount of slots for inspirs.
-
Quote:They would expire at 24, but they are definitely on the low side for helping. Part of the reason I slot common IOs if I take the time since level 15s can be used until 22.DOs that are about to expire at that. 20 and 21 are indeed a special kind of hell for a lot of toons.
I got my SS/fire up to 33 after getting to 22 on lowbie maps and I got an invite for some runs on the cyborg mission. My Claws/fire is at 39. Based on the level 1 and level 3 lowbie maps I will easily give the edge to Claws and DB/fire for smoothest ride to 50. If a player wants a casual farmer that mostly just generates tickets and doesn't need to be a top end PLer, that would be my pick. If you want a top end farming workhorse, then by all means roll a SS/fire and just work your way to 28+ to at least get a second AoE going before taking on the more normal farm maps. For me, I would be more than ok with a Claws/fire being my main farmer. -
How many lifetime subs are given out after 7 years? The general use for lifetime subs is when the game is coming out to get a quick influx of income and get people on the idea that it will be cheaper in the end if they do it that way.
-
I guess because all of those games get referenced by the same acronym, it's hard for me to accept it as an actual named change. CoH Freedom to me is still CoH.
