What about Praetoria?
Well, First Ward is going to be Praetorian, and will hopefully be in the post-20, pre-50 stuff range. If the Devs have been particularly canny, they'll have found some way to link it back to the 1-20 Praetorian storyline.
Err... did you miss the part about the whole new zone "First Ward"- that is IN Praetoria and the final resting place of all magic in Praetoria?
"Well, there's going to be some light music and a short note of apology saying, 'The universe ended last week, we're really sorry, we don't know what you're doing here, didn't you get the message?'"- Steve Moffat
Personally, I welcome the ability to choose any AT and work my way through Primal Earth instead.

I'm looking forward to First Ward and hope it's mid range content. Once again, my main issue is that I21 focuses on a new starting experience when last years full retail release did the same thing.

It seems like the only new Praetoria related content we see is in the end game trials. So Praetoria goes from being 1-20 content then all of a sudden level 50 content. I wish that the Praetoria we have now was level 35-40+ content that then smoothly transitions in to the end game stuff.

As a means of choosing an AT and getting it on the opposite side (like making a Brute, running it through Praetoria, choosing heroside)...there is no point to it now since the new tutorials will allow you to do the same much quicker or heck, right from the start since you will be able to skip the tutorials and just click the hero or villain option.

A real showstopper!

So now we have these 3+ zones with all this content that's easily outleveled. Since we're drawing all these new players going F2P, they will play the new primal earth tutorials/zones and skip over Praetoria. The only way I could see this being a non-problem is to treat Loyalist/Resistance as their own independent alignments. This way, starting Praetoria isn't just a means to get to Primal Earth. This, of course, would conflict with the current end game content so I don't see this happening.

Yeah, that's exactly my point.

(looks at number of blue side TFs versus red side)
I mean, eventually. In our lifetimes.

To be fair, all that story and characterization was then promptly tossed aside when the late game arcs and raids brought them back as the generic mustache-twirling evil mirrors from i1.

The only thing GR did to the AVs was make them more evil than they were pre-GR - instead of only getting a few text bubbles in a couple of misisons, they got story arcs focus on them, revealing just how evil they were - for example, compare Mother Mayhem and Chimera in Issue 1 with them in GR - their twirl setting was turned up to 11 in GR.

Last year's big Summer release introduced Praetoria as the new starting grounds for players, including new zones and a completely revamped tutorial...

Sooo what was the point of Praetoria? Honestly, I like the direction of the upcoming release focusing on the original areas and letting you pick AT and Alignment separately (ABOUT TIME!!)... but I can't help but feel that all the resources poured in to Praetoria were kinda wasted. I can't really see this placed used anymore in it's current state.
