Quote:Your wife is evil. I want that poster now. Where get?I almost bought this poster at Emerald City Comic Con... until my wife pointed out that I had nowhere to display it.

Excellent.
I look forward to the day Michael Bay decides to replace all dialogue with explosion-based morse code.
Transformers 3 looks like a step in that direction.
P.S.: No sarcasm there at all, I think his movies are the best of their kind: explosion filled special effects extravaganzas. Meaningful plots and character development are for art films. -
I think the best suggestion here is that enabling the No Temporary Powers option also disables all Incarnate powers. Good-bye level shift and hello old-school Master badges. If someone wants to run the STF or RSF with their Incarnate powers then they shouldn't be eligible for the Master of badges, but they can still do either/or if they wish.

Quote:Electricity is one of those areas of science where we've reached a kind of "peak efficiency". AC is used for power generation and long distance carriage via high-voltage power lines, because it is the cheapest and easiest way to do so. Once it reaches your house it is down-stepped to a lower-voltage higher-amperage and then converted to DC by individual appliances where required. It's not that Edison's DC didn't catch on, it's that we use it where it's most efficient. Note that all battery powered devices use DC because it is prohibitively expensive to create a miniature AC power source.IIRC direct current does have the advantage of generally causing muscles to lock up when it runs through them. Alternating current will usually cause spasming of the muscles which may result in losing contact with the current source. With direct current you have a better chance of getting the recipient thoroughly cooked before the circuit is broken. Maybe more expensive, but direct current definitely has the safety edge here. Or was that tasty edge? Eh, either way...
Yup, direct current is definitely the safer way to go, efficiency aside. Such a pity that the "interestingly bad" alternating current caught on anyway. -
I want a single-player console action/adventure game where we get to play as the signature characters through their own adventures. Maybe even include co-op based multi-player but not any MMO elements.

My personal data:
I've lost count of the number of trials I've done, but on my Mercs/FF all I've gotten is mainly the common table, the uncommon table twice (both on BAFs), and the thread/insp table twice (both on Lambdas). He has tier 3s across the board.
I decided to start working on my Elec/Fire brute. In 6 runs, 1 very rare table, 3 rares and 2 uncommons.
I had the same issue soloing the Praetorian Event badges. I couldn't get the higher tier tables because, according to a GM, I wasn't "participating" enough, even though I was solo and the only one participating. So I think this "participation" factor is somehow involved in the trial reward tables. -
Isn't the NCSoft launcher supposed to save download progress for game updates. I just had to start downloading i20 again for the 3rd time. Last night Windows Updates decided I needed a reboot while it was downloading and this morning after downloading the whole thing and installing it I got an error saying "Access to the path was denied", which I assumed is UAC related, which required a reboot after adjusting. Which required me to download i20, from scratch, again... Oh and to top it off I'm on slow-*** hotel wifi and it takes over 2 hours to download. What gives?

Just to follow up, I wound up picking up an Asus 1215N EeePC.
Out of the box it runs City of Heroes at a stable 25fps at minimum graphics settings, with dips down to 15fps in more intense areas (flying over Cap au Diable and into Grandville).
I'm in the process of trying out a few other games to see how well it fares. So far I'm quite satisfied with its performance for a $500 netbook. -
My favorite line in the game is actually a 2 for 1 in Vernon Von Gruns arc.
One mission debrief ends with:
Quote:The next mission begins with:Something must have gone awry when the growth bomb went off, but what? I can only hope that nothing goes disastrously wrong before I have a chance to figure out what has happened.
Quote:Something has gone disastrously wrong! The Devouring Earth have started attacking Arachnos bases! If they've been infected by my Force of the Earth mutagen, this could all lead right back to me, er, us! Oh, who could have anticipated such a turn of events could come to pass when I began playing with an intricate and alien eco-system and the semi-intelligent monstrosities that dwelled within it? I have learned of one such base already under attack. You must investigate it! -
Hmmm, I thought they were paired according to level range. My lack of knowledge wrt blueside content is apparent.
-
The one pairing we have yet to see is Synapse/Virgil Tarikoss. I'm actually looking forward to that because we used to speed the Cap SF twice a night way back before Reward merits Good times...

Quote:I got CoH running on an older 900 series EeePC but it was a slideshow (~5fps) just running around a zone. So I know it'll run, and it'll suck, but how much? Would 20fps be pushing it or should I still expect less than 10fps?It'll suck, that's for sure. It's an Ion, and that's a plus over regular Atom with Intel graphics (Atom + Intel graphics are so bad that they can't even run Touhou 6: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, a simple scroller from 2002!). It might run, but it in no way will be a smooth experience, even with low graphics (Atom is a dog, and Ion's graphics are low end).

...one of these?
I have a really nice Asus G51 I lug around when I travel, but I've found it a little too large to handle on short trips or even on a flight, so I was thinking of downgrading to a netbook that I can more easily carry around. I don't expect to be able to handle ultra-mode but with all gfx toned down and RAM upgraded to 2Gb should this still play decently? -
A new weapon was recently spotted being fielded by rebel factions in Africa. They are described as voraciously eating anything cookie-like in their immediate vicinity, causing grief among children and lowering morale among enemy troops.

Quote:Heck up to this point the Ryan-verse was more consistent than Star Wars and Star Trek. But as a friend of mine said after Bear and the Dragon: "One day Jack Ryan won't be president anymore, and he's got nowhere else to go but down. It's not like he can become a god!"His world was reasonably internally consistent. Congress was wiped out in Debt of Honor, and the elections to replace them were held in Executive Orders.
In Sum of All Fears Denver never actually got nuked, only sort of. The bomb didn't work quite right and the yield was low.
Yes, you can complain that his interpretation of reactions isn't realistic, but his world was consistent and followed the history he created. I've read every Clancy book and until this one there had not been such an issue. -
I was surprised to see this book on store shelves. I thought TC had retired the Ryan-verse after Teeth of the Tiger. But if he got a ghost-writer to take over the series, no thanks, I think I'm done.

Now if only they had this on Blu-Ray...

Quote:I personally consider laying down my life so that my family, friends and complete strangers can live free and in peace a privilege. The sacrifices made by soldiers gives your the right to free speech you exercise here. Voluntary service is a privilege, and troops deserve your support, whether male or female, whether you support the operations they are deployed on or not.#3. I don't take being told to go try to kill people i don't know for a reason I don't support while getting shot at as a privilege. In fact its' not and has never been seen as such until recently because of the idiotic discrimination due to other topics we can't talk about. Until very recently it was seen as a duty, as a form of taxes. Stop glorifying war, which is what saying its a privilege does.

Quote:Well, see the Romulans didn't send anyone. Nero left on his own to seek revenge upon Spock for failing to save Romulus. This is explained in STO of all places. Just because the movie doesn't explain it doesn't make it an omission. They don't go on explaining warp theory or matter teleportation either, yet we easily accept those as fact. Books, comics, web comics and games are a perfectly acceptable way to expand upon a 90min movie intended to entertain for 90min, not educate viewers in the minute details of its universe. It's not the inconsistencies that bother me so much as the glaring omissions. Things that should've been explained in the movie were left to web comics, which is, IMO, just bad story telling.
And then there's the stupidity of the Romulans in general and Nero in particular. Seriously, the best the Romulans can do is send a whiny miner to avenge Romulus' destruction? Yeah, the planet blew up, but they still have a freaking military with warships commanded by people who actually have an understanding of tactics and strategy. But rather then send any of those people, they send an emotionally compromised miner whose idea of tactics is to just shoot things until they blow up and throw tantrums every time his dead family comes up in conversation.
Coming up next: Star Trek: The Next Generation: Technical Manual: The Movie Quintology! (STTNGTMTMQ for short) -
Is it that hard to accept that the JJTrek universe is a different one from the "main" universe we've come to know and love? And we've only had one 90min glimpse into that universe. How about we wait for JJtrek #2 before calling him on inconsistencies in his own universe?

All my toons make use of the market, mostly to craft and sell drops. My latest experiment was a Praetorian brute who leveled to 50 doing nothing but solo tips while crafting and selling lvl 20 Miracle procs with hero merits. Dinged 50 with 1.3bil after 6 weeks. Average sale ranged from 130mil pre-i19 to over 200mil during the respec-spree.

I know, I've troubleshot this to death and all signs point to the mouse. But I can't help but wonder, how can a mouse that has perfect x-y tracking and all buttons and scroll-wheel functioning properly cause this problem? What problem with the mouse could cause this symptom? I mean I can play games and scroll and click around web-pages with no problems, but I get this strange issue when alt-tabbing between windows and somehow this is caused by my mouse.
-
I've been living with this a few weeks now, trying to figure out what exactly is wrong and how to fix it.
I'm running Windows 7. Basically, the mouse (Razer Copperhead) loses the ability to focus on different windows, usually on start-up and often when alt-tabbing between windows. I'll even lose the ability to focus on the taskbar. If I alt-tab out of CoH I'm practically guaranteed to lose focus. Now the work-around I've discovered is to ctrl+alt+del and right click in the log out screen, then my mouse regains the ability to focus on the taskbar and various windows. When it happens on start up, the first thing I click on takes focus, then I have to go through the ctrl+alt+del process to regain focus.
What I've done so far is swap mice with my wife's (Razer Deathadder). No more problems. Wife says the same bug happened when my mouse was on her PC. Then I ran both mice on my PC at the same time. Wife's mouse will work fine while mine will still bug out AT THE SAME TIME. I've reinstalled mouse drivers and firmware (they are still up to date). All things point to the problem being the mouse itself, however looking at the bug, it seems to be OS related. I'm confused at this point. I'd rather not replace the mouse if there's a hotfix of some sort that'll fix it. Anyone else have a similar issue or know how I can fix it? -
Quote:I've read The Force Unleashed, and if you've played the game, it's actually rather boring, since you're just getting a play-by-play of the game, with a bit of extra background on Juno Eclipse. So if you want to find out more about Juno, get the book, if not, just play the game, much more fun that way. Still haven't read #2 though.Any SW novel by Timothy Zahn, the Thrawn trilogy is commonly the best place to start. If you like stormtroopers, esp Allegience.
I also enjoyed the second half of Death Star. Once it caught up to the movie timeline it became a lot more interesting.
People rave about the Imperial Commando series, but I guess you have to read them in order for them to be any good. I made the mistake of picking up 501st: An Imperial Commando Novel and it was as exciting as watching Aunt Beru knit a gundark sweater!
The Force Unleashed books look good, but I haven't read 'em yet. If they're anything like the game, tho, they should rock. -
Though I had to nix the Tin Mage TF due to lack of time on my part, I'd like to thank everyone who came and helped me run 5 TFs in one day! Woohoo!
