Strange mouse issue

I've been living with this a few weeks now, trying to figure out what exactly is wrong and how to fix it.

I'm running Windows 7. Basically, the mouse (Razer Copperhead) loses the ability to focus on different windows, usually on start-up and often when alt-tabbing between windows. I'll even lose the ability to focus on the taskbar. If I alt-tab out of CoH I'm practically guaranteed to lose focus. Now the work-around I've discovered is to ctrl+alt+del and right click in the log out screen, then my mouse regains the ability to focus on the taskbar and various windows. When it happens on start up, the first thing I click on takes focus, then I have to go through the ctrl+alt+del process to regain focus.

What I've done so far is swap mice with my wife's (Razer Deathadder). No more problems. Wife says the same bug happened when my mouse was on her PC. Then I ran both mice on my PC at the same time. Wife's mouse will work fine while mine will still bug out AT THE SAME TIME. I've reinstalled mouse drivers and firmware (they are still up to date). All things point to the problem being the mouse itself, however looking at the bug, it seems to be OS related. I'm confused at this point. I'd rather not replace the mouse if there's a hotfix of some sort that'll fix it. Anyone else have a similar issue or know how I can fix it?

Sorry, but if it happens on two different PCs with the same driver, it's likely a hardware problem. *shrugs*

I know, I've troubleshot this to death and all signs point to the mouse. But I can't help but wonder, how can a mouse that has perfect x-y tracking and all buttons and scroll-wheel functioning properly cause this problem? What problem with the mouse could cause this symptom? I mean I can play games and scroll and click around web-pages with no problems, but I get this strange issue when alt-tabbing between windows and somehow this is caused by my mouse.
