  1. My fairy character is mind/TA. Mind fits the concept if your pixie is a touch on the mischievous side and trick arrow with an arcane bow kind of fits in well. I also took the fire app - only to have something other than charm to light oil slick.
  2. errr... Nemesis resists confuse and fear and anything mechanical - such as jaegars, council hoverbots and mechman will resist sleeps as will Banished Pantheon zombies. Vahzilok are resistant to immobilise.

Romans resist a lot of hard controls - holds and stuns for example.

Post your question in the controller forum as well. Maybe we can cobble together some kind of unofficial guide if everyone inputs.
  3. Thanks for everyones response so far. I've got my Scrapper to level 10 (playing him on and off) and so far he's fun to play - even without some of the hard hitting powers. I've cobbled together a build which kind of does the job - recharge is just short of perma-hasten and defence is lower than I wanted but resistance is reasonable and so is HP regeneration. I dont think he's an AV killer but big mobs should melt reasonably quickly

Yes its expensive but I dont mind investing in time and cash if the toon is good. I would welcome any comments anyone has on my scrapper.

    Not just me then

If you're curious to see how Hover performs in an always-on context, here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOYiJVss6OQ
It looks like you are both super-speeding and hovering at the same time. Or is your flight speed really fast?

    Cool vid by the way.
  6. I normally play support toons - controllers and defenders seem to sit better with me.

Anyway I thought I would celebrate the server list merge by doing something different and create my first scrapper. I had a concept in mind for a fire/fire scrapper so off I went and since I'm EU by nature I thought I would have a bash on the Freedom server.

I think its because I normally play support that I have discovered that I have absolutely no idea how to slot this character. Everytime I try a new build on mids it always seem to fall short. I am looking for a damage dealing monster that can stand up to just about anything - groups and AV's alike (if a fire/fire can handle an AV which I have no idea if he can or not but I assume he can). I normally play solo but he should be able to go into a group if I feel like it.

Damage is clearly not an issue. Both Fire melee and Fiery Aura have great damage dealing powers (is Burn worth taking as a damage dealing power by the way?)

My issue seems more to be with survivability. I am assuming that if I slot for recharge and aim for perma-hasten then thats a good start - as healing flames and consume will be up more frequently. But is that enough? Getting soft-capped defence as well as perma-hasten seems a tough order so should I go for a HP Regeneration or Resistance instead? I am not afraid of expensive builds - I like a challenge!

Please note I am NOT asking for builds - I like to figure these things out for myself but can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction?

PS - whats a good APP? Blaze fits concept but body looks nice.
  7. If you can find a way to switch smoke grenade into your build then mobs will suffer a -tohit penalty which is as effective as an increase to your defence. I personally would sacrifice targeting drone. Archery has pretty good accuracy as an inherent power so its use is limited.

    Tray Management

I've recently discovered an issue on my mind/trick arrow that I have never experienced before and it completely baffles me!

I dont have enough slots in tray 1 to use all my powers when I want to!

    Let me explain:

In the past I have made toons that usually end up with four or five useful attack powers and they end up in slots 1 - 5 of tray 1. The other five slots are taken by powers that are useful but not used as much - buffs etc. Toggles are normally stored in tray 2 (accessed via CTRL) with travel powers and tray 3 takes up miscellaneous powers that come in handy at times (accessed via ALT).

On my other toons this has been fine. BUT on my mind/trick arrow I have too many REALLY useful powers. And they're all clickies!

So I thought I would rearrange my trays so that group lockdown powers (mass hypnosis, total domination, mass confusion, emp arrow) are stored in tray 1, debuffs (glue arrow, acid arrow, poison gas arrow etc) are stored in tray 2 and finishing moves (mesmerise, dominate, leviatate etc) are stored in tray 3 and use macros to switch between the three. This works OK but gets REALLY confusing in fast paced missions what with all the tray switching and stuff!

I suppose half the problem is that I am used to keyboard playing rather than using the mouse but my mouse is unreliable at best (one of those crappy laptop ones). I am probably over-thinking everything but in my build I will have about 18 / 20 powers that I need to access quickly and I have no idea how to do it!

Does anyone else have problems like this? Can anyone suggest a solution?

    • AE? AE!? Goddamit, when I was still heroing the only time you heard that was when some fooltard Blaster had pulled three spawns and was streaking cross yonder map wailing for his Empath. You don’t see walls of text like ‘WWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ QQQQQWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWSSSSDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDD’ anymore I tell ya. No-one knows how to panic anymore these days.
    Ahh... that takes me back
  10. Oh, can I play?
    • Defeating Frostfire and Atta solo for the first time and feeling really smug about it
    • No lieutenants on maps when you solo'd (not sure if that happened or if I dreamt it)
    • Taking six hours to do Synapse and going to bed dreaming of the tick tick ticking of clockwork (let me tell you that is NOT pleasant)
    • No green line to Founders Falls - if you wanted to get there you went to Talos and WALKED!
    • No green line station in Skyway (nearly as annoying)
    • Trying to get across The Hollows with no travel power of any description.
    • Succeeding in getting across the Hollows as an Illusion Controller with Invisibility and wondering whether I could ever play another toon again
    • My first 50 ding (on a toon I never play but cannot possibly delete)
    • NAKED Rikti
    • Being of jealous/impressed of someone for having over 300 badges.
    • My first DISASTOUROUS Sister Psyche TF - we started with 8 and ended up with 4. It took 7 hours and we couldnt kill Clamour!
    • The Union weekly MOSTF runs ran by Sgt. MP Lawrence. Every Sunday without fail for a good two months and the most fun you could have with your clothes on
    • No zone events on maps - if you wanted to get the firefighter badge you ran up and down the Copper District in Steel and hoped you got lucky!
    • I am sure there was a time when there wasnt even shops or pocket D marked on maps. If you didnt know where they were.... TOUGH
    • The old style blaster defiance inherent power - designed to make you faceplant
    • Actually I remember the days when there WERE no inherent powers except the Scrapper
I am sure I'll remember some more given time
  11. I would also like to echo what Asha'man has said but for a different reason.

I am a self confessed computer game nerd! Before I bought CoX I would spend a good portion of my wages on various new releases and the next must have computer games. Although at the time I thought nothing of it, it would actually be quite a large sum of money each month.

That was until I purchased CoX. It was my first MMO and I was hooked from day one.

I am now a five year veteran and during that time I can count on one hand how many other games I have bought.

So I too would like to thank the Devs for a great game. Not because of the content (which I love), not because of the powersets and designs (which are limitless) and not because of the community (which is awesome) but because I reckon over the past five years the Devs have probably saved me thousands!

There's a Shadow Shard mission that you get from a contact in RWZ. I can't remember the name of the mission, but it vs. Nemesis and has a robot Manticore in it. Manticore is on a platform with a fake nemesis and a large group of regular nemesis. Below the platform is another platform with 3 large groups of nemesis bots and soldiers.
I know the mission you mean. Its one of Dark Watchers and its great fun if you have the right build. If you dont its suicide!
  13. Are you determined to make a fire/kin?

If you like scrappers and brutes and enjoy getting up close and personal you may want to consider a fire/rad instead. I have one and shes a great scraptroller and in many respects far safer than a fire/kin.
  14. I've never played a mind/storm but I suspect it would fall into the category of "chaos control" - which can be fun especially solo.

I was actually thinking of mind/trick arrow yesterday - mass hypnosis / mass confusion / mass domination / fear followed by disruption arrow followed by oil slick followed by some form of ignition would make a pretty safe and destructive combo. You could even chuck in a glue arrow to ensure maximum damage is done.

My experience of mind is that it has three great single target damage attacks and some great hard controls but really lacks anything in terms of AOE damage meaning that you can lock down large mobs and even take them out - but slowly. So a secondary that can do AOE damage (storm, trick arrow) should compliment it nicely.

What are you looking for? A team build? Solo?
  15. Just thought I would add my two pennies on the question of alpha slotting.

I have a mind/kin and find that kinetics is not the most reliable of powers when it comes to accuracy. I personally took nerve boost and found it made a big difference.

Dont bother with musculature at all. Rely on Fulcrum Shift - it will do the business nicely. I made that mistake and wasted a load of shards!
  16. I've tried Ice/Storm several times - to fit in with a concept - but I have never got her past level 25. I've always found her slow, cumbersome and, yes, a nightmare from an end point of view (mainly because I almost exclusively solo and Ice is NOT the most solo friendly sets)

I must admit these attempts were before inherent fitness but by the time that came out I had just lost interest.

Reading this post however is inspiring me to try her again! Maybe I may get her to level 50 this time!
  17. My main is a mind/kin and at level 50 he's a really effective all round character - great at soloing large mobs (x8/+1 so far) and really effective in teams.

If he has a failing point he's not that good at soloing EB's - he struggles against many that my other toons just breeze through!

    RoA....wow!

Then last night I finally got a chance to use a (1 slotted) RoA. I never thought a 1 slotted non-nuke power could do so much AoE damage. Hard to even imagive how good it'll be fully slotted. Just wanted to share
Wait till you put five Ragnaroks in it!
  19. Before I Alpha slot my two main controllers they need a respec. I want Scorpion Shield but at the same time I dont want my controllers to become villains - they are both always have been and always will be heros.

Before I waste a respec can someone tell me if I can take Scorpion Shield without moving over to the dark side or do I have to become vigilante to villain to rogue and back to hero so I can have my cake and eat it?

I know that the Ice APP has a similar defence based shield but it doesnt look as good on paper and it really wont work conceptually on one of my controllers.

    Thanks
  20. I play all my toons for content (although I must admit I tend to go for EB's rather than AV's).

My most successful has to be my fire/rad troller. Although I also enjoyed my widow and my archery blaster - although he was constructed for large mobs rather than AV's.

Scrappers and brutes are probably better combinations than any of the above suggestions (particularly at low levels) but to be honest I dont have a lot of experience with them as I tend to prefer "support" toons (if such a thing exists anymore)
  21. Just had another thought... make sure you put Force Feedback +recharge in Gale because then if it fires you can annoying then be even more annoying 100% faster for five seconds!

Your team will be amazed at your speed and thank you for it.... I promise
  22. Am I the only person that wants to make one of these now just for the sheer fun of it?

Shame I'm on the EU servers or we could get a whole I'm HELPING team together!

EDIT: Does it have to be Grav/Storm? What about illusion/storm... sit next to the tank, cast group invisibility on him and then turn on hurricane. Then throw a random Phantom Army into another spawn and chuck a tornado into another one.... hell this is the one toon you WANT the phantasm to run into melee!!
  23. I am a big fan of archery and have two defenders and one blaster. One of the defenders is TA - although he is only level 13, the other is storm.

With a decent bit of recharge you can get a fairly good attack chain going with blazing arrow ----> snap shot ----> aimed shot ----> snap shot and back to blazing so I personally think snap shot is always worth taking. In fact I prefer it over fistfull (which I personally loathe).

Of course the Jewel in Archery's crown (RoA) isnt available until level 38 for defenders so its just a matter of getting there!

Of the two defenders, storm has so far been the easier to play early on because of the relative early access to freezing rain (available at level 8) and the low but noticable defence buff from steamy mist - teamed with hover it can REALLY make a difference.

My TA/A has found levelling the first 10 levels a bit harder mainly due to the fact that his damage output is really low - with just snap shot and aimed shot it can be a real pain - especially in praetoria! However once I picked up Blazing arrow at 10 he speeded up a bit. I am one level off acid arrow at the moment but as others have previously indicated - the defence and resistance debuff should make all the difference.

So personally I think that TA/A is a great set but it wont be the fastest out of the blocks! You need a bit of patience but once you get the resistance and defence debuffs you should find yourself moving on at a better pace.

    Updater Problem

It appears this is a common problem. I have e-mailed support today and reported the problem to them.

In the meantime if anyone else is getting problems then please continue to post - I will pass the concerns onto support!

    Updater Problem

Is anyone else having trouble with the updater since the server move?

Sometimes it takes two or three gos for me to connect and then I will restart my computer and it will connect on the first go without any problems.

At the moment I cannot connect at all.

    Is this a common problem?
