Well my first thought was "farmers are going to love this". This doesn't necessarily make it a bad idea but it is something to keep in mind.
I would love to see more trophy style base decor. -
Well one thing to keep in mind is the difference between theory and practice. In theory it's a poor build, if you want to avoid melee then /Fire is a poor secondary for a Blaster and I'd rather have a Blaster who uses their secondary.
In practice I am a lazy, lazy man when it comes to forming teams. I pretty much take whomever wants to join and don't bother to check powersets. Unless you specifically told me that you weren't using your secondary the odds of me noticing are pretty low. Even if I noticed I'd probably just sigh and ignore it. I don't like Blasters who ignore their secondary but they are probably the AT where doing so has the least impact on team play. In practice the only ATs were I'm likely to notice are Defenders who don't attack and petless masterminds (ok, I might notice a Tank who repeatedly faceplants).
So no, I wouldn't kick you but if I got a tell saying "Hi, I'm a Fire/Fire Blaster with only ring of fire and build up from my secondary" and one saying "Hi, I'm a Fire/fire blapper" I'll take the blapper thank you.
Even with other characters who ignore half their powers my problem isn't so much that they are ignoring their power it's that they are so damn smug about it. Admittedly it's a small sample size and they were all Empathy Defenders but they all insisted that their build was the one true way to build an Empathy Defender. -
I'd put one on Monkey Island in PI.

Sounds like a very good idea to me. However depending on how the badge code is done is might be very tricky to do.
Regarding your Scrapper. My bet is on either Black Swan or Nightstar. They both appear in a single mission of Maria's arc and you don't have to kill them to complete the mission so it's easy to miss them.
EDIT: You can get Nightstar through a single flashback mission. Black Swan is harder to get since she appears in the middle of the arc. Your best bet is to keep doing missions for Maria until she gives you "Shut down Black Swan's portal to the Shadow World" which is a stand alone mission that requires you to kill her. -
Yeah, I should have said two different weapon TYPEs. Crossbows and Bows would need different animations and would almost certainly be different stances (Bows are apparently Lefthanded stance, Crossbows would be either Weapon Stance or Gun Stance depending on if they re-used the warrior ones or made two-handed heavy crossbows).

Quote:The thing is this doesn't really combat inflation. It puts an effective cap on how much a recipe can sell for and does provide some deflation one the price reaches that point. But with the numbers you're talking about we'd need a LOT more inflation to get there with most recipes. No, I was thinking about inflation. The Devs consider inflation an issue, and I agree. I already can and do get the recipes I want. (I've slotted 11 Luck of the Gambler globals in the past 3 months, and sold 3 more beyond that, for example.)
In order for this to actually combat inflation now the store prices would need to be lower than the market price. In that case it basically causes deflation by increasing supply. I don't have a problem with increasing supply but a store is probably not the best way to go about it. -
Quote:Yes I do play on Virtue, but that one wasn't me. Personally my method is to try and educate people who play that way rather than just quitting the team. That being said, when I see someone advertising themselves as a "healer" in chat I tend to pass them over for my team.I had an experience with someone of nearly the same mindest on Virtue a month ago (Do you play on Virtue?) We had a team of 8 in the late 20's standing outside the mission door, about to enter. One player pipes up, asking the defender why she only has the first blast power out of her secondary. Before she could even reply, he pronounced that he does not play with people that ignore their secondary and are just "healers" and promptly quit the team. Needless to say, we replaced him in about 15 seconds and went happily about our mission. If he would have been the team leader, I have no doubt that he would have booted her for just the way she made her character, not even how she played it. People with such a narrow and "opinionated" view get onto my ignore list fairly quickly ingame...

The primary reason is animations. Warriors have 1 crossbow attack which is used with one model. Making a crossbow powerset for Archery would require a LOT more animations. Every power would need 6 animations I believe (one for each body type and separate ones for ground and flying) so that's a total of 54 new animations (i.e. the same as a new powerset).
The other potential issue is that it's not clear if a powerset can have access to two different weapon types (I would think it could but I've never seen a dev comment one way or the other). -
Nope, and honestly I don't care what the devs think. I have my definition for how people should be using sets and that is what I care about. If you have an armor set then you should be able to take damage. If you have a buff/debuff set then you should be able to do some buffing or debuffing. If you have a control set then you should be able to do some controlling (obviously Illusion is an exception to this). If you have a blast set then I want to see you shooting things. I don't particularly care HOW you go about it but if you're missing the core function of one of your powersets I'm going to ask some pointed questions.

Quote:I disagree slightly with this. I tend to feel that AB is best used on the person who will get the most out of the Recharge bonus. AoE heavy Blasters (AR and Archery especially), Traps and Empathy Defenders, most Controllers. These guys all have very powerful abilities which are balanced by long recharges, extra recharge means they can have them up more often which makes everything easier.Keep an eye on the stamina and health of your teammates and keep AB on the 2 who seem to have the most regen and end problems.
That being said all I really ask for an Empath is that they use AB on SOMEONE (preferably me). -
There are only two types of characters I'd kick, petless masterminds and defenders with no powers from their secondary other than the mandatory one (and sometimes the stun).
Actually I'll expand that slightly. I would kick anyone, regardless of AT, who seems to be ignoring one of their two powersets. However I've never encountered anyone doing that on another AT. I don't expect people to take all powers from both powersets and I don't care that much WHICH powers you take. However you should look as if you're making the effort to use the set in the way that it was intended (which for Masterminds means taking the pets).
That being said I rarely bother to check people's power selections so I normally only notice if they either tell me up-front or I happen to notice them behaving wierdly during play. -
Yeah I have no problem with a human-only build. My problem was that when I tried making a tri-form with the ability to attack in all three forms I just didn't seem to encounter any situations where my thought was "ok, I should switch into Human form now". That being said, I've gotten more experienced at the game, maybe I'll give it another go.
-
Yeah, unfortunately there were a bunch of changes that caused a lot of inflation, especially for purples.
-
Yes, but that only immobilizes one enemy. I'm not saying it can't be done I just don't consider it to be a particularly useful tactic. Even if you use 3 damage procs and 3 damage IOs in the power the effective DPS is about 9.7. Plus you have to immobilize any targets to keep them there for more than a few seconds. I've got better uses for my slots thank you.
-
The problem is unless you're teamed with a controller they DON'T stay in it for the entire duration.

Quote:Yea, that's basically the problem I was talking about. It's useful to drop into Human form for the buffs/pets, the odd control here and there and even the nuke if you have it but there is no incentive to STAY in human form and actually use the attacks and shields. You could probably make a decent build that slots up all three forms reasonably well (a LOT of frankenslotting required) but even if you do there is no real advantage to staying in Human form.I tend to switch between all three on a pretty consistent basis, and did so even when I only had SO's in my build.
Human for buffs/pets/control/damage(with the hold and nuke), dwarf for uh-oh and slugging it out with a tougher foe situations, nova for the rest. I've always felt that Nova's AoE is just so much better than Human.
Theoretically the Human form should be about mid-way between two other forms. Tougher than the nova but not as damaging. Better damage than the dwarf but weaker. In practice I just wasn't feeling it. -
The two most populated US Servers are Freedom and Virtue. Freedom has a high population of power-gamers and PvPers. Virtue has a higher population of RPers. Of course you can find people doing all three activities on both servers. The other servers all have a lower population and different communities. In general the Hero population is larger than the villain population.
The main difference between Heroes and Villains are the archetypes available to them. The Villain ATs tend to be more well rounded while the Hero ATs are closer to the old-fashioned Tank-DPS-Support style. Note however that the Tank-DPS-Support combination is not required for hero side play, they ATs were just originally designed with it in mind and their power choices reflect it.
The most popular starting ATs are probably the Blaster (ranged damage dealer), Scrapper (melee damage dealer) and Brute (melee damage dealer). That being said all of the ATs are playable those three just have a shallower learning curve.
Oh yeah, welcome to the game. -
If you don't know abotu it the channel "Virtuebadges 09" is often a good place to find people for this sort of thing

Convieniently it's exactly the same as the recharge required for perma-hasten. Both powers require 275% total but you get 70% from hasten and ~95% from slotting (I'm assuming the recharge intensive pet sets ED cap recharge, I haven't actually checked) so you'll need about 110% recharge from set bonuses. If the recharge intensive pet sets don't ed cap recharge you'll need either mroe global recharge or to change their slotting.

Quote:Traps is probably also a good contender. Most of the time you can cast your Traps powers at the start of combat and then focus on blasting. For support sets, I would avoid any set in which you have to redraw a lot. The redraw on DP is killer. My personal suggestion would be powersets that require a solid block of support every couple of minutes with solid blocks of blasting afterwards. Forcefields, Sonic Resonance, Dark Miasma, and Radiation Emission are probably the sets that I would most recommend. The shield sets just buff up every 4 minutes to provide a vast majority of their functionality, and the debuff sets generally spend 5-10 seconds at the beginning of combat setting up their killzones and toggles and spend the rest blasting away. Reactive support sets with low cycle time powers would probably be the worst to go with (i.e. Emp, Kin, TA).

I think he meant 180% total accuracy but in any case that isn't actually quite correct. Accuracy bonuses (both set bonuses and accuracy enhancements) are applied as a multiplier to the base accuracy of the power. So for a weapon power with a 1.05 base accuracy if you had +180% accuracy the final accuracy would be 1.05*(1 + 1.8) giving 2.94 as the final accuracy multiplier.

Of the three sets Traps is probably the most powerful/ Trick Arrow is nice but generally considered a bit underpowered. Similarly Devices is a fun set but it's not going to win any awards for Blaster of the year.
I've got all three (AR/Dev, TA/A and Traps/AR) and I while I enjoy playing all three the Traps/AR is IMO the most powerful (at least in a team setting, solo the AR/Dev is probably better without using IOs). -
Allowing Kheldians in Dwarf form to fly (admittedly, Hamidon Raid is the only place I can see any use for a flying Dwarf though).

Quote:Technically attacks could have all of the tags. In practice the devs seem to have a policy of one positional tag and 1 or 2 damage tags depending on the power (non-damaging attacks will generally only have the positional).Correct me if Im mistaken but I thought that all attacks could have only one damage tag and one positional tag. So although tis true that the majority of attacks deal some smashing or lethal damage, its not necessarily true that the majority of attacks have the smashing/lethal damage tag.
