Quote:They're busy.Is that really asking too much that the people making the changes talk to us?
And unlike a not-so-distant past where the devs claimed the same without showing anything for it, this time they do have something big to show for. Freedom.
Nevertheless, they already allowed Arbiter Hawk to take a look at Kheldians, including a minor emergency patch in i21, as well as an unspoken wink that they're on top of things. The best we can do now is make them aware of our experiences, issues, playstyles and what exactly we'd like to see improved.
I hate it when "players" (meaning, usually, methuselah posters "speaking for the whole forum community" while blatantly ignoring the unspoken majority that doesn't even visit the forums) come up with the changes themselves and treat the devs as mere spectators. It usually involves unfair quid pro quo negotiations and false assumptions based on hunches and shoddy math, taking 10% from this power and giving 5% to that power, leaving the situation relatively unchanged while boosting specific playstyles and strategies. Things like "there's no need to worry about kb in Energy Blast because you can hover-blast" or "you can't change the FF/Thermal/Cold shields into AoEs because it would involve a significant increase in end/rech".
What I do like is when a competent, creative dev with access to a significant amount of datamining reports reads up on a large sample of feedback and suggestions, promotes a healthy discussion that includes a group of level-minded 7 year veteran players (like Grey Pilgrim or Arcanaville) and takes all that into account when implementing the changes said dev believes necessary.
And please, don't force us casual players to have to lobby and haggle for every little change. Giving suggestions is one thing, but demanding specific changes, or worse, putting an embargo on every idea because you don't like it... that's taking it too far.
Zenyth, I'm with you on Peacebringers (they need a full revamp, badly), but recent history has raised my confidence in this dev team to unprecedent levels. Freedom is very well done, as is First Ward, as was GR, and if they're investing in that type of thing, more power to them - even if it means rolling VEATs and brutes until they have a chance to look at Kheldians, poison, gravity, electric blast, weapon redraw, leading hostages to the exit, and all the other things that are long overdue for a revision... -
Quote:Wizard, regardless of what happens, you at least deserve a thank you for all the work you've put in this. I'll do as you say, wait for issue 22 and hope good things come our way.Last but not least, I DO want more changes to Kheldians, and think we're doing mostly okay with arguments to that extent. We can keep it up and keep this being noticed, and hopefully more will come between I21 and I22, or in I22 (since their development setup is different than it has been before, I don't know what to expect).

Unless they had like a million bullets, no.
Even with infinite ammo they'd be hard-pressed. The Romans were one of the deadliest warfare machines in history, unstoppable in every direction in the map. Their numbers were virtually inexhaustible, and they'd quickly catch on to Marine tactics and find a way to kill them, even if that meant throwing thousands to their deaths or adopting scorched earth policies the like of which we have never seen since. If a single marine fell, that would mean a roman packing a firearm, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a legionarie wielding it better than any marine alive.
Failing all that, there's always poison, and that was by far their greatest weapon. -

They might as well just let Supes wear a black leather trenchcoat and be done with it.
Anyone remember in Louis & Clark when some time-travelling villain asked Superman why he wore those pajamas? He said his mom made them for him
P.S. The new guy needs a haircut. -
Generally speaking, I'll always hold a little grudge to anyone who rode to fame on someone else's back (G.W. Bush, Frank Sinatra Jr, Charlie Sheen, Tori Spelling), and I dislike it when someone replaces an actor/actress on a sequel (Jodie Foster by Julianne Moore - Clarice Starling). But this is regardless of race/gender/sexual orientation. Marvel could have made Parker Peters the new Spider-man, caucasian high-school student dating Gwen Stacy in Queens, and I still would have hated the decision.
The truth is they didn't retcon Peter Parker into a black/hispanic homossexual with electrical powers (which would have been lame). They simply allowed Peter Parker to die and replaced him with a new Spider-Man, a rebooted comic which will target a different audience. Other comic books have done this in the past, and in fact Erik Larsen just pulled it off in his ongoing Savage Dragon series. Dragon died and was replaced by his son Malcolm (who, incidently, is also black, though Larsen's good taste doesn't let him profit on racial awareness like Marvel is trying to).
The problem we readers now face is who exactly the target audience might be for this new USM comic. The old fanbase? Minorities as a whole? Specific minorities that reflect Miles Morales' character, meaning the hypothetical black/latino/gay/mutant/teenager community who lives in Queens? This all depends on writing and taste, but the old target audience rightfully fears being excluded if USM turns into Marvel's "political correctedness" propaganda machine with a spider-logo on it.
Me, I say Marvel is long due to seriously invest in a new minority-based superhero that appeals to a mainstream audience, but to do that they need creativity, they need to stay away from stereotypes, and mostly they need to be prepared to take a financial hit for 30+ issues and a couple of bad movies for the comic to establish itself.
Or they can just do what they're doing, which is to slap a spider-logo on a stereotype and hope it sells...
P.S. I can't believe Marvel would rather pull Miles Morales out of a hat than give Ultimate Spider-Woman the lead... It's Hillary vs Obama all over again ^_^ -
Wouldn't Havok (Alex Summers) survive it? I think I remember a story when he survived a nuclear meltdown, a mini series with Wolverine in the 90's. Supposedly he's immune to heat and can absorve radiation, so unless the direct shockwave broke his neck or something he'd probably come out alive.
I'd also add Jenny Sparks, Invincible, Sephiroth and Savage Dragon to the nukable individuals. Not sure about Lavos, though -
It's always the last season, yet surprisingly enough they're up to 5 now
P.S. Morgan, give Chuck the sunglasses please, joke's over!! -
My vote goes for The Phantom, with Billy Zane and Cat Zeta-Jones. Where else will you see a horse outracing a flying plane with no fuel, which nevertheless manages to explode once it inevitably crashes?
I'd say the Avengers also deserves an honorable mention, though for the life of me I can't remember a single scene from that movie ^_^
Most of the other films you guys mentioned I actually liked (barring the Uwe Boll ones), and some awards are just outright puzzling. Star Wars? Joe vs the Volcano? Independence Day? Prince of Thieves? I loved those movies! I guess I'm just easier to please than most...
Btw, if anyone nominates Back to the Future I'll spend the rest of my life making yours miserable -
Quote:And lore. There's a lot you can do if you move away from the rigid shapeshifting and apply some more modern sensibilities to Kheldians. They could be really awesome. They've got the visuals for it.
Sadly, the overly vocal minority (evil people, mostly, but still very influential) would oppose a real revamp of the kheldian ATs, even if the overall result ended up positive. Moreso with the upcoming changes to lightform allowing for perma capped resistances. We're looking at old Psychic Shockwave doms all over again - grindfest for 38 levels, after which you're all but invincible. -
1) Tankers - This is a superhero game, and I like being really super
2) Stalkers - Invisibility, burst damage, strong defenses, mag 10 protection against "wanna join farm???" spams, what's not to like?
3) Fortunatas - Strong, beautiful and reliable, like a german car. A pity about the VEAT storyline, though, I've seen better plots in newspaper missions...
4) Blasters - Love the damage, love the risk, love the animations, just wish the old blast sets had more actual attack powers (like the new psy/dp/dark/beam) rather than silly-looking controls and dumb pets - yes electric, I'm looking at you!
5) Brutes - Pretty awesome on every level, and the fury-bar messing up my damage numbers is oddly soothing to my eyes
6) Controllers - These guys can heal and solo, and are actually pretty good in teams too! Most of the sets are just too magic-looking for my tastes, but I really like Mind, Illusion and Gravity.
7) Mastermind - When I want to play a pure buffer, these guys are it. Let my minions do the work, I'll just stay back looking magnificent while pumping out those green numbers
8) Dominators - They're like controllers with extra attacks instead of buffs, or blasters without Aim+BU burst damage. Pretty solid, overall.
9) Corruptors - Scourge!! They're much harder to play than blasters, though, the damage difference and lack of mez protection really shows in Freedom beta...
10) Peacebringers - Paladin healers in armor! Inherent flight! Beatiful animations! Engaging storyline! If only their clunky mechanics were designed by the same guy who did the VEATs, but that'd probably mean getting the guy who wrote the VEATs' missions as well, so we're probably better off ^_^
11) Scrappers - Meh, diceroll gamblers with a res cap at 75%...
12) Warshades - Can't fly? Can't fly! Can't fly... Can't fly
13) Banes - Wannabe mace stalkers with a bad plotline. Cool capes, tho.
14) Crabs - There's something on my shoulders that I just can't shake off!!
15) Night Widows - On paper, excellent, but I hate the claws/spines animations with a passion, so they're not for me.
16) Defenders - Since I tend to solo when not on a TF/Trial, these guys are out. I'm sure they're pretty good in teams, but my favorite defender primaries are FF, empathy and kinetics, all of which work just as well on controllers and corruptors. -
Since peacebringers have plenty of knockback in their attacks, I'd suggest tossing that silly Trapdoor into the lava and letting him burn. It worked quite well with my En/En stalker with the soon-to-be-retired Repulse power
-
30% def + 50% s/l res + surge of power is usually my pick. Capped defense is great, but I prefer sturdiness since blaster defense is easily debuffable by lvl 1 council soldiers.
-
Pretty much this. It's like buying a nerf. I probably wouldn't lol, but I'd certainly give that poor sod a pat in the back. Peacebringers on SOs? Pass.
-
You're evil... I'd never shift out of it if White Dwarf had a jab-clone added to its repertoire...
-
Grey Pilgrim, do you know if Arbiter Hawk has anything planned about increasing the number of attacks in White Dwarf form, or reducing the number of slots required to make the forms effective?
-
Cloud needs his eyes to glow, but otherwise that costume rocks, Neo
-
I like to think of my toon as a powerful superhero, so I don't see anything wrong with a lvl 53 incarnate tank-mage. IMHO, the devs are doing a good job, and after just beating the 3 twinshot arcs in Freedom Beta, I feel I like this game more than ever
-
Quote:There was so much win in your post that I almost quoted all of it, but at least this part deserves a round of applauseHowever, the set is also the victim of the collective fantasy that knockback is a comparable debuff to something like -Regen or -Resistance when wielded by players with infinite levels of skill.
As to my vote for Weakest AT/Powersets, I say look no further than Elec/Devices. It's the definition of a bad combo, a damage-dealer AT limited to 2 weak ST attacks and 2 DoT AoEs. It's like being stuck in Nova form for 50 levels ^_^ -
Quote:I agree.TBH, while these numbers are interesting and I salute all the long-suffering PB players out there for their well-deserved buff, I don't think this is going to stop me from deleting my 43 PB who's been sitting unloved and condemned for the last two years. perma-Light will be nice like a tourniquet on a spouting artery is nice but I don't see how it addresses the fundamental lack of a team role for Peacebringers.
The brightsquid is still hampered by the lack of a full melee or full ranged attack chain and an intrusive amount of knockback that forces them to chase their bouncing targets around. And while perma-Light is lovely, it seems a poor patch job to expect players to wait until the middle 40s and/or drop a billion on five LotGs to achieve reasonable melee survivability.
Sorry, not trying to troll or rain on anyone's seafood parade. It's just how I'm interpreting this. Correct me if I'm missing something - please. On the other hand, if they make major changes to my glorious purple Warsquid o' Doom, I'm going to set fire to my own head. Devs - don't make me!
Now don't get me wrong, there are alot of great things coming with Freedom (the phasing technology sounds awesome!), but this little tidbit I read with no small amount of dread. Sure, it's nice to have a buff, but I'm beginning to fear this is it. It kinda reminds me of the token buff /EA had a few years back, which evidently was not enough since /EA is getting rebuffed in i21.
For me, the main issues weren't addressed - the forms still require way too many slots, they still lack a full attack chain without significant IO +recharge, the toggles still drop when you switch forms and human form still lacks mez protection until level 38, and even then it requires a significant influence investment to what will remain a subpar character.
I'm sure alot of ppl can easily find a way around these problems, but I can't, and overall, IMHO, a Peacebringer is still not worth playing over a VEAT/WS/[insert any other AT in the game] unless I'm doing it for roleplaying reasons.
P.S. I love the Kheldian backstory A "buff" to Peacebringers could also be something as simple as expanding their background in those future story arcs the devs are planning to make. -
Quote:I still say we should just slot the forms themselves rather than the forms' powers individually, just like a mastermind slots his pets for acc/damage rather than the pets' powers individually. This would free up alot of slots, and hence room for improvement of the forms themselves, like adding a 3rd melee attack to dwarf, a 3rd ranged attack to nova and giving each form their own version of build-up/mire.Secret Wishlist
Drop the form-specific attacks altogether, and integrate the forms back into the basic build. Instead, allow forms to use the equivelent human attacks (if they have them) with shifted values. Forms would also be able to use some utility powers and shields, but again with shifted values to match the current form. To keep it simple, ranged stuff goes to Nova (ranged attack powers, glowing touch, photon seekers), melee stuff goes to Dwarf (melee attack powers, pulsar and the selfheals; and gain Taunt and Teleport for 'free' with the Dwarf power).
Also, why not make the human form shields passive, like the VEATs defense powers? The shields aren't all that powerful by themselves, and it'd solve (at least partially) the issue of toggle dropping when shifting back to human form. Just remove the +res slotting on the dwarf form power and it'll balance itself out (though nova form gains a bit of resistance it didn't use to have, but I'm ok with that). -
Then there's the matter of the missing matches among Epic Power Pools, things like Blasters not having Psychic Mastery or Corruptors missing Fire Mastery.
I'd like that fixed too, please -
My main problem with Khelds is the lack of slots due to each Shapeshift form's powers requiring its own slotting. It'd be akin to Masterminds having to slot each of their pets' powers individually. Why can't we just slot the Nova/Dwarf forms with acc/dam/rech enhancements and be done with it, or even allow Pet sets (or shapeshift sets, whatever) to be slotted directly into the forms?
Also, I subscribe the motion to surpress toggles when shapeshifted, speed up animation changes and give mez prot to human form (even as a simple buff to Cosmic Balance, i.e. give mag 4 mez prot if you're soloing, lose it if you're in a group). I want to play my peacebringer because I love the backstory, but they feel so pathetic that right now I'd much rather play anything else, even windows solitaire -
True, and it would mean porting Warshades into the Rogue Isles, then giving them a decent story arc every five levels where they would further the Nictus cause, prevent the Fifth Column nazis from taking over the Council, possibly leading to Cimerora and taking Requiem's place as the Center's right hand. I would definitely love to see that
