  1. Yeah, the x1 or x5 or whatever in the actual email listing itself tells you how many of a particular item you'll get when you hit the claim button. There's a quantity field below it that shows you how many of that item you have.

ie, in the field it says Windfall x5, and in the description it says Quantity: 2. That means there's 10 charges of Windfall that I can claim, 5 at a time.
  2. Unforunately, I don't think the vidiotmaps addon makes any new additions to the overall City map. Not sure why exactly you might want that either way though - I think I've tabbed over to that map once, said "neat!" and never used it again.

It does however, show you locations for badges, day jobs, enemy group locations and level ranges, Rikti dropship paths, zone event/GM markers, plaques, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting. Very handy, I highly recommend it.

Yeah, there's zero NDA on the VIP beta. Those big notices of "Staff Fighting is now on the VIP beta server!" are for everyone to see. Non-VIPs can't see the beta forums, but it's not a secret or anything.

I remember something similar happening in the CoV beta. Missions would occasionally bug out, and somehow after exiting your mission your full team of evil and doom would pop into Atlas Park. And then you'd go train with Ms. Liberty, because well, you totally could. Just had to be careful of those dang drones...
  5. Since you mentioned without outside buffs, I'd argue it's easier for a Scrapper to come close to Tanker level mitigation than it is for a Tanker to get to Scrapper level damage.

As far as teaming goes though, it's considerably more difficult for a Scrapper to hold aggro without using certain secondary sets (Shield or Invuln, and to a much lesser extent Willpower) or dipping into the Presence pool.

Numbers wise, Tankers have a cap of 90% resistances, while Scrappers have a 75% cap. They both can reach the 45% defense softcap, though Tankers will do this slightly easier - it also depends on what set you play. Scrappers have a damage cap of 500%, while Tankers have a 400% damage cap. As expected, Scrappers have the highest initial damage values of the 4 melee ATs, and can crit, but have lower initial defensive values. Tankers have bruising in their first secondary power, which is a 20% resistance debuff, which translates into an indirect 20% damage buff.

If you're willing to take a peek outside of the two, Brutes may be what you're looking for. They have lower initial defense and offense stats, but can get very competitive in terms of damage, and share the Tanker caps (except their damage cap, which is the highest of every AT at 775%). Brutes have a single-target only version of gauntlet, but it works in any damage auras they might have, making them quite effective at holding aggro.

I am planning my SJ/Ice and the only attack that can take -resist is Shin Breaker. (I don't plan to buy any PvP proc sorry). Is having just one -resist proc really worth it in your opinion? Shin Breaker happens to be the best dpa attack as well so I am not sure if I want to fully slot this attack with great damage/recharge/end or sacrifice some damage/recharge for one AH Proc (I plan to take 4 Kinetic Combat).
With the way -res works, whatever the -res number is ends up being a straight damage buff regardless of the target's initial resistance. Resistance resists -res debuffs though, but even if Pylons had 0% resistance (which they don't), the resistance numbers would just go negative.

So if you're using the attack frequently enough to maintain the -res debuff, do eet. It's always helpful.
  7. I believe that text displays all the time, even if you aren't the opposite alignment. It's for characters who're on one path to do undercover work while running arcs for the opposite side.

ie, Resistance members can do the Responsibility Loyalist arc, but not the Power Loyalist arc. When running the Responsibility Loyalist arc as a Resistance member, you can call Calvin Scott and let him know what's up. Loyalists running the Responsibility arc will still see that "Call Calvin Scott" message though.

The contact in question might under Inactive as well.
  8. Melle is a jurk. A jurk who represents a statistically evident larger portion of the playerbase that causes the developers to realize they can make more money by charging for each new Melle set, but a jurk nonetheless.
  9. Seeing as my main is /sr, it's not as horrible as one would think. In trials you're surrounded by teammates, a good number of whom probably will have defense auras that will easily bring you up to the higher softcap. I don't have any numbers handy, but ancedotally speaking, my time on the beta in Dark Astoria wasn't outrageously difficult. In fact, until now I assumed the enemies had the normal tohit chance - this coming from someone who was soloing at +2/x8 with 3 shifts.

Either way, I'd highly recommend picking up Rebirth for incarnate stuff. I alternate between that and Ageless (for "regular" content).
  10. I can't speak for every thing, but AVs in particular have a scaling resistance to all sorts of debuffs, including Recovery and End Drain.

A level 1 AV has 60% resistance, a level 50 has 85% resistance, and a level 54 has 87%. Normally this isn't a huge problem for debuffs since every little bit counts, but with end drain it only really matters once they're at or very close to 0. Can't say if it works that well outside of say, an Elec/ controller or dominator, but I can't imagine it being very effective with electric melee.
  11. Probably Claws. Between a Brute and a Night Widow, I don't think I could stand to roll another one. Not that either one is bad, but I try to not roll two characters with the same set.

  13. I don't believe it's exactly explained how he got his powers aside from the various implications. Recluse forced incarnate powers on him somehow through experimental means (and it's later revealed he was trying to get the same power for himself to avoid the Well's control), and the Well called the power "tainted". But then Grillo briefly mentions the Well after his arc, so I'm assuming that's where it came from.

Either way, text wasn't updated after i19. It may have been a minor case of foreshadowing, but there are supposedly references to Avillians in the game as well, so maybe Cryptic just covered all the bases at the time.
  14. Actually, back when cityofvillains.com was a thing, they had these little short stories about random villains of each archetype, and then which patron corresponded to them.

Black Scorpion was a brute, Ghost Widow a dominator, Mako a stalker, Recluse a mastermind, and Scirocco a corruptor (sand blast and... sword manipulation, I guess). I think CoV in general tried to build the characters around the limitations of the game, while the heroes are just a bunch of cheatyfaces.

Hopefully the changes coming down the pipeline will help that feeling. But the Stalker really feels like a one-man show, not a team player. I suspect that I'm not the only stalker player that finds themselves in a similar boat.
Yeah, it's rare to get a Stalker on a team for me. I've actually started to go out of my way to send a tell and ask them to join when I catch any in /sea, but most seem content soloing. I'm sure the i22 changes will make a few more show up. 30% crits on a team just sounds awesome to start with, and that new AS is pretty good.

    Other rarities for me:

    - VEATs and HEATs. I'm usually the only Epic AT on the team when I'm playing my Widow. Sad, 'cause all 4 are terrific teamers.

    - Spines. I've never seen a Stalker with it, and only one or two Scrappers.

    - Any ice set. No idea why.
  16. 'twas always that way. I don't think it was necessarily an indicator of the incarnate system, just that Trapdoor was supposed to have gotten his powers from the Well in the same fashion that States and Recluse have. And as such, he got tossed into the Alpha arc.

    DFB temp powers

You can have 1 of each, and none of them stack. I believe picking the same one a second time will just reset the duration.

And Combat even made a point to say it works on a lot of characters. My namesake here follows that trend too, and I'd like to think I'm a decent player (because if I don't I cry myself to sleep, but that's a different story).

On topic, I follow a fairly simple priority list:

    1. People I know.
    2. People who are actively set to LFG, ask to join in a tell, etc.
    3. Whatever the group needs to be rounded out.

At step 3 I try to filter out people with plain dumb sounding names, if at all possible (K1LL3R BL00DZ, sunioc da hegehug, etc). Anyone at all that I've had problems running groups with in the past is either on ignore or has a note attached. Past all that, it's as it says: whatever we need. I occasionally go for the comedy option of an 8 man team of 1 specific AT when it's viable.

Zwill hyped up States' death scene a good deal on the ustream, so I'm fairly excited for the big reveal where he turns out to be a dog.

For whatever it's worth, almost all of the female Praetors are oddly interchangeable for me. Is Mother Mayhem different than Diabolique? Is Diabolique different than Dominatrix? I know who Black Swan is, she's just Swan, the one who everyone thinks is Natalie Portman.

I honestly thought there was enough storytelling bloat to go around without introducing a mirror world where everything is the same but different and everyone is really into leather. What about half the Vindicators we have now? What about those guys who were introduced with the Korean launch of City of Hero? I couldn't care less about Praetor Hoohah, quite honestly, and the whole of the WWD arc has been far more interesting than the Praetorian/Incarnate stuff to me so far.

Yeah, but the current badges might not be there. Then they get shoved into the hero-side Ouroboros echo zone, and rogues can't go there.

So, why does Rock keep getting all these updates when the only thing Paper's gotten was the Cut update. And that was, what, 3 years ago?!

    Ridiculous.

    Extra slots

And to elaborate further, adding the extra slots apparently broke a few systems which kept them from doing it right away.

    Any know if...

Paragon is a lacking city to say the least. No firetrucks, no buses (yet bus stops), no street sweepers, no real weather to speak of, all the alley cats have hybridized with the women, and I don't think I've seen a normal truck anywhere either.

I'm struggling to remember where I might have seen an ambulance, because I do think there is one somewhere. Could be remembering wrong though...
