Actually! I think it could be awesome if they do a giant leap forward style series.
Star Trek crew set in TNG/Voyager Time Frame, young crew, setting out on it's voyage, when something happens and they're hurdled into the future, which turns out to be a sort of post apocalyptic type scenerio but in SPACE!
Add in some small space fighter craft (as I really do think this is what's needed to make Star Trek as profitable as Star Trek), include some modern age music, as I'm tired of everyone in the future listening to classical or jazz (Hearing Kirk listen to Beastie Boys was one thing I thought the movie did right).
Maybe add some sort of space age zombie virus that's spread through the quadrant, and they're fighting to survive as they come into small desolate locations, fighting to cure it, or possibly fighting to make it back home so they can stop it.
Or ignore the Zombies, but give it a feel of somehow the future becomes like the old west! -
Quote:Cynthia Rothrock (China Obrien) is a five-time World Karate Champion in forms and weapons. I'd say she's an actual fighter.None of the actresses in those movies were actual fighters, that's what I mean. Take My Dough point sparring/pillow fighting doesn't count.

That said, her movies (while enjoyable to me) I can fully admit to be some corny acting. -
Quote:o.O Long Kiss Good Night, Underworld, Resident Evil, China O'Brian. Or do you mean by someone who's a professional fighter? Well that still leaves China O'Brian out of the movies I listed.Trailer for the Haywire movie with Gina Carano, MMA fighter and better known to most of you as "Crush" from American Gladiators.
It'll be interesting to see the fight scenes in a chick centered action movie with a girl that can actually throwdown. Lot of big name actors in it, too.

Sorry if it was posted on here already, I haven't been on here consistently for a while.
That said. It looks both like a movie I'd watch and that Gina Carano can't act! -
Yeah, I don't know if I see a big problem with this one.
I mean it sucks to be layed off (which sounds like the right term for what happened here...though I know how little that matters to those effected) but they fired marketers. That doesn't really go into how good the film will turn out.
And Marketing is one thing we all know Disney can do! -
Quote:Well, as was pointed out to me once...I always laugh when I see characters with the impenetrable mental defenses and they're Invulnerability, a set known for its complete lack of any psychic protection. Bonus points if they then go on to point out something else that the set does cover that's a weakness of theirs.
Power from Rikti Invansions that gives Psi Resist/Defense.
There is some IOs they could use to get some okay Psi Resist (doubtful they have them).
But then, the same goes for most ATs when they have any sort of defense. I mean a INV with that sort of PSI resist is no different than a Blaster with that kind of PSI resist.
Which is what I find even funnier. The super tough Blasters that are known for being glass jaws...I mean cannons!
-
You'd have to really build for it at the cost of other things to get Willpower on a Scrapper to the Health Cap.
-
Dark/Time Corr! It'll simulate you moving faster than others.
-
Hmmm...I might of had the episode with Clayface's "daughter" but over all not a bad list.

Quote:firestar supergirl and powergirl you hit on my three favorite heroines except you missed wonder woman and isis
I wanted a bullets bouncing off you effect of Supergirl/Powergirl, but didn't want to go INV, so IOed out Electric Armor was my thought on doing that. I actually love the combo, especially when the Knockdown Procs go off for the super strength feeling in Fire Melee (only sword attack taken was FSC).

Female Young Face 6
Spiked Collar (what I use to seperate the sudden cut off of outfits from the neck)
Large Boots (varing styles with a preference towards Heavy Buckle)
Banded Gloves (varing styles with a preference towards Heavy Buckle)
Baggy Socks (how I wish I could have the option to have THOSE sandles but without the baggy socks as well)
Scarf
Belly Tees (I was asking for these before we had them, so now I make lots of use of them)
Chest Detail: Chain 2 (the assymetrical one)...I like it because it adds some unevenness to the characters.
I've tried to branch away from these options, because it has been noted many times by people that all my characters looked alike. But in my defense, I did like the look! -
Quote:Basically this Silas.I'm thinking of skipping it.
A) Too many damn powers that need taking.
B) Too many damn powers to click.
C) The buff isn't that great. If 50% +rech from my Chrono Shift doesn't put into the stratosphere of +rech then, uh, screw you.
D) The +dmg isn't that great, and the added healing isn't that great.
Basically, combine that "meh" factor with the fact that I don't want to have one more power to monitor and it's a pretty unappealing selection for me. Since I'll be leveling this toon the old fashioned way when I21 hits, I'll probably take it and respec it out later.
I don't think the Accelerated feature is all that impressive.
Not to mention after all that, you start to get to the late game, and running with more and more people who use IOs, and I just don't see it being all that impressive.
If it was an AOE buff (even if it didnt effect yourself) I could see keeping it. But when it's just 1 or 2 people...with everything else Time has to offer, I'm really not seeing it.
Mind you, some +DMG is nice of course. But let's take Kins for example, often times when running my main, I'd say they could skip me, as all SB did was make them have to target someone else, and all I got out of it was a faster running speed, which while I like having it, took time away from them doing other things besides buffing.
I feel the same way about the other ST buffs, like Clear Mind, I find a waste. AB/Fort I don't think are all that either, but that's in a set dedicated to buffing others, so it's a bit different. -
I thought it looked interresting. But truthfully, I'm still waiting on the other NCSoft title, Blade and Soul (though nothing will ever replace my love of CoH).

[QUOTE=Fixer;3824953]Very minor quibble... by all accounts Zeus slept with anything willing or unwilling, so its not hard to picture any number of demigod by blows floating around. I'm not saying its the greatest character concept ever, but it doesn't automatically equal Statesmans love child either.[QUOTE]
This is true. However, Zeus has been long gone for over 2000 years. As well as all those other mythological gods.
And looking at all those children born of Zeus, they'd be Incarnate level at most, and with CoH lore, not even likely that now, as powers through out the universe are derived from the Well. -
Quote:then why not just make them new power sets with their own gimmicks OR give the old sets new animation options?I suppose it hinges on if you simply do not mind copied sets. I can live with them, but I don't like them.
IMO, Katana and Broadsword were a mistake. They could have just been one set with varying degrees of specialty depending on if you choose to wield it one handed or two. Axe and Mace, too, to a degree.
There are sets I just want alternate themes for. I could ask for another set, but then I want *that* set, not a new one...and a new one would most likely (especially as current) be different.
It's just more streamline, if you ask me. Just like picking a corruptor or defender as being two flavors of the same dessert, it'd follow the exact same pattern when you're choosing Energy Blast flavored as Optic Blast or Beam Rifle flavored as Wrist-mounted Beams.
You wouldn't be able to do that with reform skin. What I'm saying is, if you choose the Fencer style Broadsword reform skin, *all* of the powers would resemble that style for that costume.
Another purpose I make this is, it makes sense conceptually. If I were a swordsman or martial artist, it'd just make sense that I can use my skills in alternate ways like a Katana wielder using regular kendo + iaido. Or a martial artist using different styles to accomplish the same feat of power.
Sure, I can just ask for an Iaido style Katana set and just make an alternate version of the character to level, but I'd sooner never ask for a set so similar in function than to ask for something so specific like that. -
Quote:No one has to choose. It's called picking a different toon.Well we have expressed our views well enough. Quite thoroughly. Some people are ok with the minority having to choose between rewards and teaming with friends....ironically when freely teaming is supposed to be our "advantage".
Look at that, you got the A Merit reward you're wanting so much and teaming with your friends! You can alt back to the other character after the 5 tips are done! \o/
Only one interfering with your teaming is you. In my SG (that's about 40active players) I see this all the time "Running [insert alignment here] Tips" "Oh hold on! Let me alt!" Now most of them run Hero tips for sure. But this being said in the global channel, we get people running villain tips to. It's called alting.Quote:Some people are not ok with our teaming being interfered with by rewards.
Rogues/Vigilantes get 60 Reward Merits, and the ability to run both sides of the fence. What exactly isn't the reward in that?Quote:Also it's not equal. Hero's/vilains gained rewards and lost nothing. Rogue's/vigilante's got a tradeoff.
If you're saying you can't use Reward Merits, please let me know. I'll give you a list of needed set recipes, and you can buy them for me with all those unused reward merits.
When the truth is, most people prefere to play the hero, have no desire to go redside, and can grab a nice IO recipe every 2-4 days. This obviously includes your friends who don't seem to be willing to run vigilante tips with you.
You're problem isn't equal rewards, your problem is more people play blue side and have no desire to play redside.
Also a chance for you to make new friends who want to run vigilante tipsQuote:That's my final stand. We disagree. It's ok. Nonetheless be prepared to have to oppose this again and again. Freedom hitting will only increase that as people come from other games with different perspectives than your own.
Your way makes the whole alignment mechanic worthless. You want to turn it into, "do tip missions, get a reward" and not "do the right tip missions for your alignment and get a reward."Quote:I agree with you I really do. I'm going to continue to play the game and enjoy it. It will be a minor irritation I will work around. But since I felt it could be better or more fair, by my own perspective, I spoke up. You are absolutely right though. This is why teaming with my friends and having fun pretty much locks me out of my merit rewards. I'd rather run tip missions with them and lose out on rewards and have fun than go grind my tip missions solo/search for other vigs to grind with. That's my choice. I just don't feel I should have to choose that is all and see ways to thematically not have to while still giving me a tradeoff as intended.
It's also why I'm ending my participation in this arguement. We've covered everything thoroughly. It's not worth more of my time fighting for, my view has been put out there. I'll be playing instead of arguing. I'll also not be belittling others on an online forums, I don't care how big/small my Epeen is. I don't care how "right/wrong" I am on matters of opinion lol. It's opinion for a reason. It's not something that should cause you to insult other people just because the view things differently, but that's something many forget. (not aimed at you mega)
So if they did that, why even bother keeping alignments or the rewards? -
Quote:Because a Whip is a MELEE WEAPON!I'm not sure why you'd say that. The attacks that exist right now are ranged. Why would they change that when they make a full set?
If we can't have Dual Pistols as a Melee Set for gun fu fighting action (a comic book staple) why would we have a MELEE WEAPON set as a Ranged Weapon set? -
Quote:Well, do they get any money from the movies/documentries what have you based on them? How much are their lawyers taking? That's how I feel about it as well. You can almost see some vindictive Political figure behind this saying with a smug expression." Oh you want them free..suuure..suurre we can do that!" No one involved wants to admit to the fact that these kids were railroaded for their lifestyle and character, not for anything to do with the actual case...and they also want to be sure that even if they are freed they will not have to face the music for their own misdeeds and misuse of the justice system.
NOW outside of all that I would hazard a guess that once these now grown men manage to get the heck out of that town that some of their celebrity supporters will offer them help in getting settled until they are able to support themselves.
I also don't see the celebrities sticking around to help them out, outside of a "Good luck with life" pat on the back.
And of course, that's the problem as well, of course those involved don't want to admit they were wrong, it tarnishes their record. And for this case, it would be a huge downgrade. Messed up a case based on personal feelings, and cost three kids 18 years, and the real killer might be out there.
If this was found to be the actual case (and part of me thinks they're letting the boys out in hopes they won't bother to continue to try to clear their names, as they may not have the funds/backing now that they are free) lots of fired people.
Though after all that, if they are found innocent/cleared of all charges, and even if the real killer is found (btw...I'm not saying they arent the killers...I don't have all the details on the case) they don't look to go back and sue for the system wasting 18 years of their life.
And being on parole. It wouldn't be hard to get screwed over and put back in jail on a simple parole violation, if those in charge are so inclined. -
Any word on what's happening to SB anyways?
-
I may be the only one considering skipping Temporal Selection >_>
-
I'd say they're more screwed over now.
At least that's how it's sounding.
Let them out early by signing away a right to sue for their life back, because their lives are still ruined. Just now they're out of prison, but still on parole.
The one father is right, if they're really guilty, why set them free?
If they can't sue to get reimbursed for 18 years of their life wasted, and I can't imagine it'll be easy getting back into the swing of things with this hanging over their head, it looks like the city may have screwed them over again. -
Well, Fyregirl, my FM/ELA Scrapper is based on mixing Firestar, Supergirl, and Powergirl all into one and I know Firestar more from the cartoon than the comics, with Supergirl being a mix of both comics/cartoon.
Probably my closest to one being based off a cartoon.
I often THINK about some others, but they either don't last long or I just don't do it. -
Quote:The Pretender! Such a great show!Well, if it's not entirely based on Saturday morning cartoons ...
1. Miss Eve DP/NRG blaster - based off Miss Parker from The Pretender TV series.
2. Broad Street Bully WP/mace tanker - based off Dave "The Hammer" Schultz from the Stanley Cup winning Flyers of the 70's -
Quote:Fights in the D...As my first "rant" post elsewhere on this board put me in a rather bad light, I've decided that I actually want to sit down and ask the community proper for a discussion based on "Roleplay" mainly with some things that bother me on Virtue. Now this post is not a rant, and I will endevour to keep it this way, I'm going to ask some questions and respond with what I think and look to you guys for your input.
A little about me before I start,
I do not consider myself a "Leet" player by any stretch of the imagination. I've been playing off and on since 2005 with one of two account. One of which is long gone and the current one only has one level 50. Along with a ton of 20 somethings, but hey that's what I get for playing to many games.
This want for discussion started due to me being really active in roleplaying again on Virtue, thankfully I've made friends, joined groups and had the privilege of roleplaying with some fantastic people. People that have forced me to step up and practice and really work on creating lasting and memorable characters. So shall we on with the actual discussion then?
First things First.
Pocket D
In the Lore for Pocket D, DJ Zero is a rather powerful mutant that can create tunnels and bends in space time. He uses his power to maintain pocket D and has gone to great lengths to keep it a neutral ground. Now here in lies the rub that irritates me so..
Fights in the D...
My opinion on this,
There is a power suppression field in affect here, and as this is DJ Zero's world/dimension/time-space it revolves around his rules, he is literally "God" here. You can do all the god modding you want, all the "I'm super powerful!" that you wish and it still falls flat on it's face. You are never going to out power the person who created the Dimension you are standing in, ever. "I'm an Incarante!" so what? DJ Zero is god here.
My question to you,
Is a rather simple one, what do you guys think? Do you think "So what, let them rp fighting, maybe Zero likes a laugh?" or "I agree with you on this one, this crap is annoying."
Number two.
The "I don't take level into account" Bio post..*grumbles* My first response to this is usually, "The I don't take your existence into account." Now I understand to most that this might seem a little harsh, but to me this paves the way to all manner of Power-posing and God-modding. When a lvl 1 brand new character can walk up to a fully IO'ed LvL 50 Incarnate and seriously say "I can kick your ***" it breaks things a bit for me.
I feel there has to be a foundation to work off of, I do not play my lvl 50 fire blaster the same at 50 as I did at lvl 1. At lvl 1 she was unsure of herself, new to the world, learning. At lvl 50 her powers and experience have grown leaps and bounds. She's no longer unsure of herself and takes part in situations that affect all of Paragon City. Should you solely take level into account? No, but it needs to be a foundation of some small sort in my opinion.
I know some people build the character before they place in the power sets, but I find it easier to relate to a character that has grown from the allowances of the game itself. A fire/fire blaster would grow differently for me at least, then a cold/cold one. So I'll leave this one here for more discussion as well.
Number 3.
The "I have powers that don't exist in the game" Bio quotes. Another source of frustration and grumbles for me, and yes I know by now you're probably saying "Stop being such a rules lawyering jackass and remove the stick from your rear." But seriously, does this bother no one? When someone you roleplay with says they have a power you can't visualize it breaks the immersion and understanding of the character, unless they are really really good at explaining it. This I pose an actual question for..
Do you, or do you not RP with people that have powers listed in their bio that do not exist in the game?
Number 4.
Last but not least in my wall-o-text post here is the one uppers. The "I'm immune to Psychics" types and the "I can see through your stealth" types. Those people that have to one up everything you can do and make you're character an ant in comparison to them..
This attitude annoys me to no end and I'd like to know how others deal with it. I've got more questions but I'll stop with this for now, and I hope we can actually have a conversation about these bullet points. I would honestly like to know others opinions and how they handle these situations.
-DR
Actually, yes, this has always kinda bothered me. Mostly because some of those same people who fight in the D go into one of two categories "screw the lore of CoH" or "It's all about the lore of CoH, oh except for this one bit where it says DJ Zero doesn't allow it"
I understand that fights happen in clubs. This is why DJ Zero teleports the fighters to the arena when it does happen.
Oh? But you don't PvP, you just RP text fight? That's fine! RP text fight int he arena!
Level into account...
I've let this slide a couple of times with players I know. However usually I try to make it a non issue even then. If I know they have multiple versions of a character this changes things a bit.
But generally, no, I won't accept lvl 1 characterjust shown up today is some powerful I win button, outside of an NPC for RP story and you're just making giving the NPC a face.
Powers that don't exist...
Goes right into my thoughts on "No. Elves don't exist in secret on Earth." "No. Dragons don't exist in secret on Earth." "No. You can't destroy the universe with the snap of your fingers."
Of course, I've let some of those slide, but by slide I mean, ignore the character.
Ignore Stealth/Psychics...
Well really, most of my characters have Psi Resist and/or Defense (Dark Armor, Dark Miasma, Electric Armor, Willpower). So you better be damn good, because those PSI AVs make me laugh. Basically with characters like that I think I could get away with saying they're protected from Psi (My Dark/Cold Defender had 75% Psi Resist and rather high if not softcapped Psi Defense...you be I'll say they make a Psi using character look rather weak).
Now, I have used a few exceptions with a couple of different secondaries. Regen damage was damage (though now they have PSI Resist in i21). Fire Armor, completely weak to it! But will they accept being burned by invading the mind?
As for Stealth, I have +Percetion! In fact I have multiple +Perception Powers! I had one character with Tactics, FA, +Perception in Defense Armor, and the +Perception Proc. Don't tell me they can't see a stealthed character
If they lack the +Perception then yeah, I say they don't see them.
So yeah, I mix in a bit of game mechanics with what my character can do, but then I build them to match what I want and don't say "Level 1 Uber Badass Just showed up into town"
I'm just not the type of player who wants to have a lvl 50 IOed out character someone took time and effort into creating to have to deal with a lvl 50, unslotted character someone just PLed the way to 50, as a threat. More so when you can RP mission and watch said character faceplant over and over and over again, then when not in a mission expect to believe "Oh yeah, I can take on anyone."

Quote:Still /unsigned.Again. I was proposing an idea. I never said I don't like how it works. I'm fine with it. I was addressing a problem with a solution. You just seem to want to argue about rewards.
From your previous comments however, it seems you don't like the system. Based on your real world examples you don't' think it should be possible to decide to not take the morality you've just spent working toward...yet the system allows you to do that. My idea was based on the fact that this is already possible and just moving the same option to the individual alignment missions.
My idea also still penalizes you because you are still not getting any credit toward your alignment as your are opting out of them until you run your own. True, it is not as large a penalty. It may be a few hours vs. 20 hours for the notoriety to wear off.
BTW, I'm not PISSED, just disappointed with the responses I get that aren't constructive to a legitimate idea. There's a reason I haven't posted much in the 7 years I've been on this game (yes Pre-Beta, don't go by my board date), but this thread obviously caught my attention.
I know..I must be a whiner because I can't take a criticism...but it isn't constructive and also didn't address what I was trying to provide, which was a proposed solution to the ongoing discussion.
If what you want isn't about the rewards, then you doing hero tips instead of your hero tips is fine.
Yes, you get the choice to stay your alignment or not if you go a certain way on a morality mission, but that's not the big deal. Why? Because if you don't change or stay the same, you're not getting anything for it.
In fact, you get no reward at all if you stay your current alignment, because the reward was you changing alignment in the first place, which you turned down.
The system is fine. And part of the choice is you teaming with your friends or not.
Not to mention if you have multiple alts, pick a different one that will want to do the hero arcs your friends want to do if it seems like such a problem to you.
