That is something I doubt anyone could truly help you with.
I can ask questions that you can try to answer for yourself but it's ultimately up to you:
Where does Ryu come from?
How old is he?
Is he a moustache-twirling villain? Or a vigilante? Or something else?
Has anything happened in his past that might make him speak a certain way (for example, having being in the army may lead a person to saying 9pm as 2100 hours)?
Then there's personality:
Is he chatty and talkative?
Is he wary of revealing too much information (this can still mean a character is chatty: it could be a smokscreen - keep them thinking I'm an airhead and they won't know I'm capable of lifting a truck, hacking a network, and eating a baloney sandwich at the same time)
Does he prefer actions over words?
Is he overly-dramatic (or prone to bouts of affected behaviour?)?
What does he like in others?
What does he dislike?
I could go on but this is sounding like a GCSE English Language checklist!
Try and get constructive feedback from other people? It doesn't mean that you have to change every detail of the character based on another person's dislike, but if a room of people find that a character's lack of social interaction jars then they will likely ignore that character in the end, because (well this is personal opinion) it's very difficult to play against someone who does nothing and says nothing. Even if a character sits there texting for an hour, some of my characters may consider this rude and make comments (especially if they're supposed to be chatting )
Oh and whilst you can't go far wrong in RP, there are some ways of doing it that just preclude any input from others:
They can be summed up by the phrase 'God-Moding': i.e. a the player of the character dictates everything, forcing actions and reactions on others without their consent.
This can take many forms.
The most common explanation is:
A: Captain Awesome shoots Evil Claw in the head, killing him

Hello
With the upcoming i17 launch and custom XP, I was wondering about people's views on level ranges for RP arcs.
Now my intention to create arcs would be that, once played, they are then taken down from the system.
I know the arcs are for RP purposes and could, technically, be achieved by running them in Test Mode, but then that would mean I would have to be present to run them (and know what happens etc.).
Also, surely most people appreciate that levelling/gaining rewards is a part of the game: I wouldn't want to prevent people from gaining experience from these missions. Besides, the characters who run it are effectively 'gaining experience' as they run through the mission.
So, this brings me to level ranges:
Obviously for plots containing level-gated groups, the problem is less... problematic! For instance, if a plot involves the Vazhilok then anywhere between 1-20 is fair game. Trying to create equivalent custom versions of the early groups (especially Clockwork, pre psychic stage) is, IMO, pointless. The standard, Dev-created mobs are much better.
However, there is still a problem with this:
- Would players be willing to accept that their power levels are restricted for the purposes of the arc?
- Would some consider not joining a plot because of the level restrictions of the mobs involved?
- Are there any workarounds to this?
- Would folks consider running a 30-35 mission, because at that level the Custom Mob provides an extra challenge that at 50, characters would easily breeze through?
- And would folks prefer to face higher gated groups (The Banished Pantheon, who run out initially at 29 but who return at 40, for example)?
Your thoughts and feelings are, as ever, welcome. -

Eastern Promise
Costume Pieces
- Kimono (male and female) - various styles, similar to Robes: using cloth and silk textures - optional ribbons for female character models
- Geisha face pattern (female)
- Geisha hair (complicated arrangement of hair, with pins, fans, ribbons, bows etc)
- Sandals: wooden (think E. Honda!: currently, the 'Sandals' have appalling socks with them)
- Tattoo textures (Dragons, Fire Signs, Luck Signs, etc) for full body (front/back), chest(front/back), arms, legs, and face
- Single and Double Sword Scabbard Back Detail
- Shoulder-Arm capes (Think Storm in her 1990s X-Men costume)

For me, PVE > RP > Forums > MA >< Badges >PVP
I remember when I first joined, back in i4/i5 (I think I joined a week or two before i5), I was invited to do a bit of duelling in the Arena.
I was on an Elec/Elec Blaster (at lv 6!) and the other player was a Kat/Regen (also lv 6).
I had Hover (Hey, I was new!) and used it when I found this Scrapper AT was very good at hitting me hard and fast. It was on the Perez Park amphitheatre map. The other player got annoyed and told me to switch off Hover. I didn't, the duel was boring, and I said I was going back to doing missions.
For the other handful of times I have PvP'd (with one exception: a recent-ish RP PvP session) I have found the attitude of 'PvP'ers to have not really risen above my first encounter with the system.
In PVE, RP, MA, Badging, and the Forums I've been welcomed and had fun overall. I don't really get a welcoming vibe from PvPers.
And I don't consider sitting in the water in Siren's Call, waiting for lone Heroes to emerge from the base, and then ganking them, fun or requiring any real effort. -
Private Investigator:
Costume Pieces
- Fedora (a proper one!)
- Cloth Trenchcoat, with waist belt
- Tattered Suit (with leather elbow patches)
- Deerstalker Hat
- Greatcoat
- String of Pearls chest/shoulder detail (female) - Because Miss Marple was a PI too!
- Hip Flask Swig (for the noir detectives)
- Magnifying Glass (Suitable for Sherlock Holmes/Velma-style detectives)
Either
- Networker: Basically a long cool down (same as Mission TP) power that teleports you to a contact/broker in your contacts list.
- Camera Flash: A Single Target, click power, that does a camera emote (a proper one, not that hideous Box Brownie that currently passes for a camera!) and inflicts a large ToHit Debuff on the target. No damage, obviously, unless it was some kind of Special Vs Ghosts thing, but that's a bit too much like another game...
Gambler:
Costume Pieces
Vegas-style Egyptian gear:
- Egyptian Headdress (male and female)
- Serpent Bracelet (glove)
- Serpent Anklet (boot)
- Cotton Skirt/Kilt (Female and Male, respectively)
- Kohl Make-Up (male and female face pattern)
- Hieroglyph costume pattern
- Croupier Hat (those sun hats with the plastic-y visors, forget the proper name)
- Waistcoat and Bow-Tie
- Silk Shirt
- Fluffy Dice chest detail (for jackets, so similar to the Bolo currently available)
- Bone Roller (that actually sounds rude in my head...) - Similar to Mystic Fortune (including cool down time), but a self-buff that is random:
- Snake Eyes!: a Double 1 is rolled and the character has Toxic DoT applied to their attacks for a short duration
- Lucky 7: a 7 (5 and 2) is rolled and a tier 3 Purple Inspiration is cast on the user
- Safe Bet: an eight (double 4) is rolled and tier 1 inspirations are cast on the user (obviously, this isn't castable whilst KO'd!)
- Losing Streak: a 3 is rolled and the character receives debt protection for a short duration
- On a Roll: A 12 is rolled, the character receives a movement speed/teleport range boost, and a recharge boost, for a short duration
- House Wins: 2 blank dice are rolled, no benefit is bestowed on the character

Okay, here's my take on it:

I could have regurgitated something similar to the last one, but instead went for the Tech theme at full tilt.
As I'm assuming your character is a Villain, it makes little sense to me to just go with the fact that he has access to this technological marvel: a joint effort between Vanguard and the PPD.
Hence me alluding to the fact that this suit is stolen and has been hacked by the user. -
Okay. Hello talented people. I am not an artist, nor have I ever claimed to be one.
But I caught sight of this thread and my niece has been round, and her crayons were just sitting there.
Sadly, I only had some printer/copy paper to do this little doodle on so I'm not sure if it qualifies. Anyway, it kept me occupied for a handful of minutes
Lusca (for it is, he/she/it) was easy. Trying to draw a figure with crayon (and there were no sharpeners around...) is difficult.
Anyway, hope this raises a smile somewhere in the Intarhwebs.

Quote:oh thanks everybody for the great help! thank you very much Arctic_Princess for a much better bio than mine i think ill use it if it will let me.
Feel free to. It's similar to your original one, just formatted.
Walls of text actually look 'okay' in the biography window, but AE writing has turned me into 'new subject: new paragraph' man. -
Quote:Ryu is a highly-intelligent AI. His intelligence is what makes him deadly: He can learn whilst in combat, adapting and improving all the time.As one of the most dangerous and intelligent A.I.'s to currently exist, Ryu cares little for how he speaks or acts around others, that said he has a rather quiet and shy personality so he speaks little around most people he does not know well and is rather honest for a rogue A.I. and loyal to a fault most of the time. Some think he was created by Nemesis others say it was the Vanguard who ever it was he now answers only to himself and what ever god he believes in.
His original social programming was basic, which can lead others to believe he is incapable of learned emotion and reasoning. Those who overcome this obstacle may consider that he is just 'shy'.
Somewhere deep within the core of his processor lies a protected memory bank: In it are algorithms designed to instil in the AI a sense of loyalty to [insert whomever is appropriate - your SG, a particular NPC, Arachnos, etc.].
His creation remains a mystery. Nemesis, Vanguard, the list of potential sources is endless and often fuelled by rumour.
But something within this intelligent AI is beginning to awaken to the possibility that, perhaps, Ryu can be its own master.
Okay, I have not checked the word count (being lazy ) but that would be my take on the biography. It's a bit 'purple' in places, but hey: You did ask for input. -
Quote:Ditto on the AE 'interesting features' which don't seem to have had any improvements made since Closed Beta.On the one hand, yay! That all sounds awesome. \o/
On the other, I really hope I17 is going to be ready and you aren't pushing too hard to hit the April deadline for Demon Summoning. If that Auction House bug makes it over from test to live, and everything listed in the AH vanishes, then it really is going to be a memorable anniversary. Oooh, yes.
Plus the other thing. -
Quote:Or more obviously, turning Dark Astoria into some kind of co-op/Villains and Heroes zone would be an answer.Talking of Dark Astoria and Croatoa, do Villains have any magic/supernatural themed zones at all? because if they don't then that would be an obvious kind of zone to make.
Adamastor and Mot, the Banished Pantheon, a new SF/TF, and finally an answer as to what exactly happened to turn Astoria into Night of the Living Dead. -
Kata is available for this kind of plot.
Helena is not. I has plans for her, I does...
Right, sensibleness warning!
Big plots, in the past, have led to some kind of friction and fracturing amongst the people taking part and this has spilled outwards too!
This is no reason not to take part!
As long as people bear in mind that toe-stepping is likely* to occur at least once then hopefully that should minimise the damage!
*Likely, not definitely -
Server not found is what I'm getting
Ah well, I suppose I'd better schlepp round Faultline looking for a team instead. -
Speaking subjectively, I notice that on the majority of the characters I have rolled over the years, all of them have been given Fitness to include Stamina. The exception was a Trick Arrow/Archery defender.
And at the beginning levels (1-6), which are pretty quick anyway, I can solo any AT and the Rest clickie is clicked moderately.
Upwards (7-19) of that I prefer teams because End costs are reduced as there are more people to go for enemies and, if including buffers/debuffers, the whole process speeds up anyway.
When the magical moment of selecting Stamina arrives I feel freer to either pursue soloing (if capable) or teaming depending on my mood.
But I do not wish to get rid of the blue bar, or make Stamina an inherent (or Health for that matter, which also gives out that nifty sleep resist).
It's part of the tactics and planning of making a character I am comfortable with, without letting me run riot over everything.
No blue bar because Stamina is an inherent (and unslottable, remember) means EB and AV fights that result in a lot more insp popping later on, and would potentially lead to only certain powersets being wanted for TFs and the like (Kinetics and Cold Domination spring to mind here).
As it stands, any AT can take on a regular TF or SF. I;d like to keep things that way. -
Quote:I think it should be available to all and be called:This made me laugh. I know some roleplayers who could easily don this kind of armour.
If it's proliferated to villains though, there needs to be a god-modding power.
Pocket D God Mode - Tier 9 Shield - +100% Def, +100% Res, +100% ToHit, +100% resistance to ALL debuffs. Power never crashes and remains active forever, after the initial click.
-
Quote:Rad Defenders and Super Strength/Crashable God Modes can already achieve this effect. At the Tier 9 instead of Pets, you could have a Defender-Strength Nuke. It would be interesting to have an AT with both a primary and a secondary Crash power. But my original thought was to come up with a completely new and unique Tier 9 instead.
I have a Rad/Dark Defender with EMP Pulse and Blackstar.
The reason I point this out is because I'd rather not see a random new AT based on say, a defender with melee or a blaster with shields. As has been pointed out we already have them in the form of VEATs and HEATS and some specialised slotting power choices and use of power pools from existing ATs.
I'd rather see themed ATs (Paragon/Praetorian Police, Circle of Thorns-style, etc) which don't unlock at 50 (the new change to Epics unlocking at 20 could be seen to be, employing wild speculation with abandon, a step towards alternative methods of achieving ATs).
There are enough groups already in existence for the concepts to work. Wyvern, Legacy Chain, Longbow, Vanguard for starters. Malta, Carnies, Council, 5th Column, Circle of Thorns, Rikti too. A lot of their powers are similar to existing ATs and, bar the costume pieces for the majorty, a lot of players already have rolled characters that either still are or were once onvolved with these groups.
So whilst I appreciate that people want to play around with existing formulae for 'new ATs', please can we have some crazy thinking first and then scale it down to something workable? -
Now I'm going to have nightmares. Evil dolls are evil.
-
- Vazhilok Reaper/Mortificator face masks
- Malta Backpacks
- For that matter, Embalmed Abomination/Embalmed Cadaver backpacks
-
Did you have a look at the Croatoa maps? They come complete with fairy rings and woodland music.

A brilliant guide.
After 4 years I am trying out Tanks, never really having gotten on with playing them before (as for HEATs - forget it!). -
Dear all (especially those that read and/or commented on that thread)
I've been doing a lot of thinking, very possibly to rectify the lack of thought previously.
I would like to make an apology for doing what I did.
I'm still very passionate about the recent changes to AE, the concept of AE and, I hope, the brighter future of AE.
Thankfully my inconsiderate actions, fuelled by a somewhat misplaced sense of injustice, are gone. I can even have a laugh about it, but not in a 'haha' way.
So, I'm sorry. No need to leave replies and such, just let this slide down the list as new threads are made. I just felt that I wanted to make the apology publicly.
Kindest regards
