  1. I'm all over the place since I have many alts, but I made an in-character thread answering this kind of thing:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=197060

    (Shameless plug ftw! )

  3. That's good! Eating and being eaten is part of the cycle of life! After eating Hamidon, itching and skin changes are normal, so don't be scared. Ignore any tentacle-like protusions on the face too, it'll get better!

If you don't want to eat some Hamidon, don't worry! Hamidon will eat you and you'll join the cycle that way. Nature is wonderful! ^_^

    - Maximum Chaos, Plant/Storm Controller
  4. I really, really, REALLY hope the visor thingy Mother Mayhem's minions are wearing will be a costume part of some sort. REALLY.

Waldrada, who's going to be a very fierce loyalist, would be very upset if it isn't. She's a scrapper. Broadsword/Shield.

Do you really want to see her upset? I didn't think so either.
  5. We need more radio and television missions. I have thought of doing a Radio + TV teaming up versus the Internet in AE (or, perhaps, videogames, but the internet sounds better), just don't have any free arc slots and enough arcs in the queue already
  6. I'm pretty sure I read they mentioned he went Postal earlier on Praetoria and that's why the DE are a big threat over there.

Whether he still exists or not doesn't matter, it's not like worshippers of a dead or imaginary person/deity/whatever need a real presence to go all fanatic, is it?

Or I could claim MaxChi simply worships Hami over here and wants to help the DE over there because of it
  7. When was the last time you sat down and asked something to your character?

"Hey, Ultra Electric Babe, what do you think of this?"

Something like that. Well, after all the information we have received about Praetorian Earth and whatnot, I took the notes I had and went to ask some of mine what they thought about the whole deal. The results were... Insightful, in some cases, and expected in others. Here's some of them.

    Quote:
Listen, I don't care about Praetoria. Not in the sense you would expect.

I serve my Goddess, Fortuna. She holds the scales and directs how the threads of Fate are weaved. I'm not here to help anyone, I'm not here to join any sides. I'm here to make sure you live up to your fate.

Do you believe you have a grand destiny ahead of you? Do you think you have been chosen for something or other? Do you feel assured you are the only one who can do what needs to be done?

You may be. I myself don't know the designs of my Goddess.

But I will be there to test it. If you rely on others, you may get stabbed in the back when you rely on me. When you want to conquer, you will have to get past me. When you want to reach a prize, I'll be there guarding it.

I'm not invincible, I'm not even that powerful. But I'm the obstacle the Goddess has put in your path. Deal with it if you truly think you have a destiny.

(She kinda went on a tangent there, but there you go)

    - Fate Hunter, Martial Arts/Energy Aura Stalker.

    Quote:
Paetoria? Why would I want to go to Praetoria? Are there red and white people there? Or Stretchy-faces?

    ...

    ...

    ...

(A very uncomfortably long silence followed, with Marionette looking at me with her emotionless, porcelain-like doll face and unblinking eyes. There are few things as distressing as a robot looking at you waiting for input. After I informed her that there are no Longbow or Rikti in Praetoria, she turned around and went to smack some unsuspecting Longbow Warden that was passing nearby).

    - Marionette, Electric/Electric Brute

    Quote:
Emperor Cole has the right idea. Do you think I like having these robotic arms and taking to the streets, day in and day out, to viciously assault all of the gang members and demented people that prowl Paragon City?

    ...

Well okay, I don't mind the latter. But in all seriousness, I'd much rather have had a normal life, you know? In Praetoria, I'd still be in full shape and wouldn't need to do all this. My sister would have a normal life. Yes, she completely adores Tilly, but she's bound to her as her guardian because of a magic ritual! If the Circle hadn't existed, she'd be free, and Tilly would be a happy child living with her parents!

But it's all pointless. We're here, I have cyborg arms and Vanguard weaponry. And I'm not afraid to use them to protect Praetoria.

And maybe that way nobody else will have to go through what I did.

    - Waldrada, Broadsword/Shield Scrapper.

    Quote:
(After that interview, I went to ask her sister what she thought).

    *Swish*

    *Clatter*

    >Cries of Pain<

    *Smack*

(This continued for a while, I couldn't get a word from the scrapperlocked lady, but I winced more than once at the indescribable acts of savagery I witnessed. Tilly, the little girl she is the guardian of, didn't seem to mind much, which I found very distressing).

    - Walkiry, Broadsword/Regeneration Scrapper.

    Quote:
Anyone who rescues my sister from Arachnos will have my unquestioning loyalty, forever.

You can write that down, and put it in the classifieds part of your newspaper.

    - Larcticus, Ice/Cold Corruptor

    Quote:
It sickens me. Our motto is “To Protect and To Serve”, and I can't believe that there is a police department somewhere that has forgotten this.

Don't give me any word play ambiguity crap, it's very simple. You have to do both, and that is the only way a society can work. The people of Praetoria have had their trust betrayed by those who were supposed to help them, and that's something I can't forgive.

Trust is very precious, and its betrayal is not something I can easily overlook. When Bobby and I merged, it was a supreme act of trust, and I hold it as the most precious experience in my life. Trust can be a wonderful thing.

    - Astacidea, Warshade working in the Police Department.

    Quote:
It's very complicated. I think Emperor Cole may have lost his perspective when he decided to take over Praetoria. It's very difficult, you think you are doing the right thing, and before you know it, you have become everything you despised and made you fight in the first place.

I don't think the Resistance can make it. Well, they may be able to make it from a military point of view. Gather enough forces and crush the opposition. But that's only going to fuel the fire and start a new, opposite cycle.

Only someone who's close to Cole and someone he trusts can make him see what he has become, at least in a way that doesn't involve more death and destruction. It's very hard to hear someone who you see as your enemy, even if they have seen into your heart.

I just hope it happens before he does something he will truly regret for the rest of his life. Oh, sure, there's terrible things happening under his command, but it's all anonymous, faceless statistics an numbers. I'm talking something close and personal. Something...

(She went very quiet after this, and I couldn't get another word out, so I decided to leave her at that).

    - Aliana Blue, Invulnerability/Energy Melee Tanker.

    Quote:
Like, I don't know, you know? It's all so complicated. All this “that's not what it seems” and secrets and underground and stuff. I like it, you know, simple.

Here in Paragon there's a bunch of bad guys doing bad things every day, so I go out there and beat them up. It's simple and easy, I don't have to think, and I get to be the hero like I always wanted.

I mean, Longbow and Miss Liberty and all those people aren't exactly happy with me, just because, you know, I took this suit from them. But I have helped a lot of people, like, really helped them, and they are so happy, and so am I.

I dunno, if Ali or Wal can tell me who the bad guys are, no problem. But, you know, the bad guys in Paragon aren't going away in a hurry. I'll just hang around here.

And what do we do? We support these people! We support the very world structure that promotes nuclear war, degrades our environment, rips apart our habitat, and destroys our Earth! Every time you protect a politician, a lawyer, a businessman, anyone who lives mooching off this corrupt system.

But not in Praetorian Earth. In Praetorian Earth there is hope for peace and harmony! Where flowers blossom, and nature runs its course as intended. It only needs some more help, just a little bit and it could become the perfect planet!

    Quote:
It's all an illusion. We can see past them easily, of course, our mothers made sure of that. Emperor Cole thinks he can preserve the status quo, but he doesn't realize it's impossible. So he has two sides, one shown to the public, one that goes out at night and does what the other is scared of doing.

We understand. We are two sides as well, although not in the same way. We are both as one, we are in touch with each other.

It's a bit like our mother Selene. She comes out at night and sometimes she illuminates that which is hidden, and sometimes she goes dark and quiet. You cannot bottle the two sides of human nature.

As we said, we think it is all an illusion. But we don't know who the illusion is for, the citizens of Praetoria or for Emperor Cole himself. We feel a bit of pity for him.

(It was very distracting to hear two people at once talking to a single person. For what I've gathered, there are two souls crammed in there in a single body).

So no, I'm not leaving Paragon in a hurry.

Praetoria? Oh sorry, I went off topic there didn't I? Well, it's just that it's a very exciting subject! But Paragon University is very demanding, in what other country could you have a fully functional gravity controlling combat suit and still be told by your supervisor that it's not enough to write the thesis?

Praetorians? Look, as long as my research is paid for, I don't really care.

  8. The Hamidon protects us! Nukes can only make us bigger =)

I know it can be scary to touch your inner wild side, but we will help you! You know that little plant you have in your office, that bush in your secret lair, or that flower you think is cute. The main reason why I play more blue side than red side is lack of red side scrappers. I can roll a brute, but every time I do I keep thinking "this could have been a scrapper..."

I'm quite wary of rolling non-mez-protected things red side, you can't walk three paces without getting a beanbag to the face (because there's always longbow lurking, always!), and it gets old after a while. Stalkers are interesting beasts, but still, not a scrapper. And masterminds plain don't do it for me.
  11. I always roll 30-34 bronze, it avoids the snipe sets and lets me dip on the sets that cap at 30 (Steadfast, Karma, Regenerative Tissue, etc.).

Maybe not the most profitable range, but I enjoy the variety.

  14. Best serious arc:

    #1 - The Storyteller: Sabrina's Tale #1237 @Redbone1
    #2 - Kiss Hello Goodbye #156389 @Kitsune9tails

    Best comedy arc:

  15. I have a pair of Broadsword scrappers who are sisters, and one of them (Waldrada, BS/Shield) is so going to go Rogue. I was going to say "go postal" but, well, that's what scrappers do every day anyway.

She will find the enforced peace and tranquility of Praetoria quite alluring, due to past issues. If it had been Praetoria, neither her nor her sister would be out killing stuff sword-first, they could happily be normal people; that's the gist of it.
  16. Best Epic Level Arc:

    #1 - One Million Eyes #71933 @minimalist
    #2 - A Warrior's Journey: the Flower Knight Task Force #260284 @PW

    Best Short Arc:

    #1 - Becky's Revenge #60197 @New Age Ronin
#2 - Forget the Rose, Send Me the Thorns #8925 @Hydrophidian

Those epic arcs were a bit draining at +3/x8, I need a break.

(I made something like 20k tickets I think...)
  17. My votes so far:

    Best TO arc:

    #1 - Nuclear in 90: The Fusionette Task Force #58363 @Cavatina
#2 - Mercytown, the one with the fish #6017 @Tangler

    Best SO arc:

    #1 - Teen Phalanx Forever! #67335 @PW
    #2 - Escalation #6143 @FemFury

More to follow soon, I hope.
  18. Atlas giving you trouble? Walk a couple hundred yards to the RWZ and train in the safe, covered Vanguard base.

The quartermaster is also an excellent place to sell.
  19. The simplest way to make inf when being a lowbie:

    - Play AE.

That's IT. You can use the tickets for Bronze rolls; under-30 bronze rolls are very nice because it can net one of the "global" IOs that are always in demand, i.e., -KB, Steadfast Res/Def, Regenerative Tissue +Regen, and other recipes that sell very nice when at low level. Or you can go for the surefire and use 500 tickets to buy a rare salvage that sells for 1-2M (do a quick check of the market to see what's hot lately and you're done).

It's beautiful in its simplicity. You don't even have to run to the vendor whenever you fill up, you roll whenever it's convenient for you.
  20. Hm, it's hard to work out the time difference with the board adjusting times (badly, sometimes) and all that. So I'll throw the arc and hope it sticks, though I think it's too late!

Usually there would be a few LT's left though with a sliver of health that could be picked off by any of the attacks, and if there were a good many, lining up Shadow Maul made short work of them.
The side effect of the nice ST damage of Dark Melee and having bosses on, as Uber pointed above. Elec/ ST is not very exciting, Fire/'s better.

This may be silly, but have you tried killing the hard targets before you let loose Shield Charge? Unlike Elec/ or Fire/, Dark Melee with high recharge runs the build-up-like Soul Drain almost perma, so there is no hurry to fire the big hitter right after building up.

Try leveraging AAO (plus SD) to down or soften the hard targets first, then let loose Shield Charge as the final attack before moving on. I know my efficiency went up when I started opening with Thuderstrike and Fireball, give it a try

It's also interesting that the efficiency of the Shield Scrappers keeps going up while mob level goes up all the way to +3. I think we should try +4, for the hell of it. It _should_ go down, but at this point I wouldn't guarantee anything!

(Hope Cat doesn't mind the shield hijack that's happening in his thread!)

I'm also thinking of doing a second, SO based build for Narcine and see what happens...

    EDIT:

    Oooh... kay...

Just did a run of the Council map at +4/x8/NoBosses. Took 20 minutes to clear (so, 3 runs per hour). Netted me 8M inf (the logging didn't work for some reason, so I don't know _exactly_ >_< And btw, that's 8M before sales, had 16 recipes to show at the end of it including a purple, a particularly lucky run?). So... It's about as good as +3, except less mobs (less chance for drops I guess?). That's a scary thought...
  23. Character: Narcine (Elec/Shield Scrapper)
    Setting: +0/x8/NoBosses/NoAVs
Task: Council America Map, ran 6 times like a headless chicken in 1 hour.

    a) Inf from Enemy Kills: 13,056,133
    b) Inf from Vendor Sales: 4,520,327
    c) Total: 17,576,460

What does "running like a headless chicken" mean? Simple, jump into a spawn, let loose fireball, thunderstrike, either shield charge or lightning rod (with build up if available) and move on to the next spawn, don't spend more than 10 seconds doing "cleanup" (fire, 3, 4 single target attacks max).

I was able to run it 6 times like that, leaving the odd Lt. that ran away or got lucky behind.

    Dropstats data follows:

    Inf. Rewards 1,787 (13,056,133 inf, 0 xp, 0 debt)
    1,172 minions
    615 LTs & snprs

60 Pool A recipes (Mob Defeats)

    Nightmare: Acc/Fear/Rech (Recipe)
    Titanium Coating: Resistance (Recipe)
    44 common recipes

1 Pool E recipes (Costume Pieces)
    Costume Piece: Cherubic wings

EDIT: Oh yeah, and 4 pieces of rare salvage.

Lots of drops, but I'm not sure if this is the best setting, I'll have to try x3 again now that Shield Charge has been upped.

EDIT AGAIN: So that I don't monopolize the thread. The new Shield Charge does indeed rock.

    Character: Narcine (Elec/Shield Scrapper)
    Setting: +3/x8/NoBosses/NoAVs
Task: Council America Map, ran 4 times in 1 hour.

    a) Inf from Enemy Kills: 24,487,746
    b) Inf from Vendor Sales: 3,498,381
    c) Total: 27,986,127

    Inf. Rewards 1,359 (24,487,746 inf, 0 xp, 0 debt)
    836 minions
    523 LTs & snprs

44 Pool A recipes (Mob Defeats)
    1 very rare recipes
    Absolute Amazement: Rech/Acc (Superior) (Recipe)
    3 rare recipes
Call of the Sandman: End/Sleep (Recipe)
Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control : Chance for Build Up (Recipe)
    Malaise's Illusions: End/Confuse (Recipe)
    5 uncommon recipes
    Cleaving Blow: Dam/Rech (Recipe)
    Essence of Curare: Acc/Rech (Recipe)
    Perfect Zinger: Taunt (Recipe)
    Perplex: Acc/Rech (Recipe)
    Red Fortune: Def/Rech (Recipe)
    35 common recipes

    4 Pieces of rare salvage.

At that rate it would take less than 80 hours to hit the inf cap... Not even counting sales. It's also the second time I get a purple recipe during a run that had very close to the lowest expected value of recipe drops.

Well, that explains Mr. Liberty's numbers. He was running with bosses on, which of course is a bonus, but I was scratching my head over the inf difference between us, my +3/x8 run had 1074 defeats, and that netted a bit over 9M inf, the difference seemed too big to attribute it to 200 extra mobs and "bosses on".

Gonna run Narcine again and see what comes up. It's going to skew the comparisons I wanted to make for different settings, so I'll go through the logs and put the number of defeats on each run.

I'm wondering that myself. With Shield Charge being increased to Lightning Rod levels, I'm considering if +0/x8 runs with no bosses may be the way to go for Narcine. At +3/x8, the combo of LR + SC + Fireball left very little cleanup (and she's packing the global recharge, so LR and SC would come up quickly after jumping on the next spawn), but with SC doing full damage it should be possible to down a single spawn of +0s with only one of them (plus quick cleanup), then use the other on the next spawn, and so on. at +3 with no bosses, a map cleanup was 20 minutes rather solidly (the last run had just 2 spawns left when I ran out of time).

If not alternating between LR and SC, +3 may be the sweet spot for her, about 25 seconds spawn-to-spawn, timing really well with the recharge of the big hitters.
