  1. Yeah, I was going to be testing the double-hit vs. damage stacking; I read through the thread you linked (thanks for that); and I do not have Follow Up (FU), so I'm not sure if that's a big difference (I have Build Up).

Plus the new PPM code may effect the double-hit? Anyway, I'll keep an eye on that Core vs. Radial Assaul discussion!

    The Tanking Crab

    Just a minor point:
    Quote:
This is very nice to have as it knocks the crabs total status resistances up to 14 and gives 15% res to all damage apart from psionics.
You mean to say status protection, and not resistances.

Interesting build, nonetheless. Not sure it's my playstyle; if I feel like tanking, I play a tank. I think of my crab as more of a melee/mm/blaster. Like a kheld, but actually good and useful for the team.

    2. Should I keep Elude? replace it with what?
    3. better choices for incarnates?
    4. do i need more recharge?
    5. Do I NEED a ranged attack? or just use wand if needed?
    ...
Purples are not wasted on Widows at all. They may not be worth the INF, but they are definitely not a waste.
    1. Yes, skip those lame powers, you are defense and can use the power-picks for better things.
    2. Yes, skip ELUDE - it is useless because of the crash, and you're already soft-capped (or should be), so it only adds movement speed and recovery. Replace it with something more useful, like Eviscerate.
    3. Musculature Core, Reactive Core, Rebirth Radial, Assault Core... it's all about damage!
    4. If HASTEN is not perma, then YES, you need more recharge. Slash is your bread and butter, it needs to recharge in under 5 seconds. Period.
    5. HALF of your attacks should be ranged! NEVER skip Poison Dart, Dart Burst, and Gloom! Besides, those darts are a REGEN debuff and stack with each other. Hello!

I have both a melee attack chain and a ranged attack chain. Hell, I have any power I want up pretty much all the time. The flexibility is amazing with high recharge, and the damage output is better than any of my stalkers or scrappers (except AoE, my spines/sr and staff/ea brute is better there). But for single-target damage? I'd have to really trick out a Broadsword for +damage to come close to my widow numbers, IMO.

Also remember, it's not how much 1 attack from a widow vs. 1 attack from another is, it's "how many of those attacks can you do in 8 seconds?" - if your widows is hitting two full melee chains in 8 seconds vs. a scrapper/brute's one full chain, well, there you go!
  4. One problem you might have is: Patron Pools. Soldiers of Arachnos do not get any non-patron pool (i.e. blue-side's "epic" pools); so if you switch sides before level 41(?) where you have to go through the whole patron unlock if you were on red-side, you may lock yourself out of Gloom*.

*the only power in all of the patrons worth taking for a Widow.

    -r0y
  5. I play my Night Widow extensively, as she is one of my favorites. Better ST damage than my spines/SR (duh), but almost as decent AoE damage as it, with more defense and utility to boot. HP is the only real down-side for fort/widows, but she's quite survivable and is able to tank (for a while) many of the incarnate AVs (except Cole...)

  6. Most definately! I have a tricked out widow who does insane damage (single target, especially!). The fear component is nasty, especially in PvP! A little extra defense (ie: they're feared = they're not attacking = defense!).

I only slot 5 of them, as 6 is useless to a widow, but YMMV. I dropped the dam/end/rech one, and put the rest in slash (6th slot is a Hecatomb chance for Negative).

I only have T3 hybrid (assault) and for even-con minions (lol) I easily top over 1,000 damage with slash. Which isn't bad for my main attack (up every 4.26 seconds)

Thank you for proving my point, but it is unlcear why you use a similar analogy to show what happened and then say it's faulty reasoning and self-serving. Pretty self-aggrandizing, if you ask me! I am not sure you understand at all what I said, instead you seem to focus in on an over-zealous pursuit to defend something that is neither yours nor was it ever asked of you to defend! Nothing more annoying in this world than people who insist to help those that do not ask for it.

Anyway, yes, you are correct, it IS like saying "you shop at the store every day for 6 months, that you get a loyalty reward. It did not matter if you have been shopping at the store on and off for 7-8 years..." (emphasis mine) to use your own words.

Then you completely MISS the whole slap-in-the-face to the person who's been with them for 7-8 years because, well, technically, you weren't here everyday from point A to point B in the last 6 months. So, as Steve Martin used to say, "Well, Eeeexxxccuuuuuuuuuse ME!". Not sure if you are a joker or just one of those "I MUST REPLY TO ANYTHING" type people, I'm not on the forums hardly AT ALL to know; but know this: your analogy was apt, but your conclusion what out of left field. Way out.

    But thanks for caring!
  10. Normally "loyalty" is based in years or total dollar values spent by customers. This is just really poor management and should have been internalized a bit more. It's like a grocery store giving away a turkey for everyone who shopped last Saturday... sorry, ma'am - you've only been shopping here every Thursday for 6 years, so you get nothing.

I know a number of 5-6 year subscribers who've had small lapses here and there, and to pull something like this on them is not only a slap in their face, but a red flag for future management of the product.

Yikes. I don't even think it's worth arguing with this current crop of temp. developers. Can't wait for the next batch.

Lol, was that a serious build? You *almost* end drain yourself just standing there. Good Job.

Was chatting with Obs about this when Victory decided to take a dump (and Liberty as well, I'm told). Anyway...

It was thus impossible to kill Diabolique as she healed back to full every 30 secs. and it was impossible to target and kill the Essences in 3 secs.
Just ran one on Victory, and got this bug. Oddly, the first few waves of Essences were fine. Then all of a sudden, she would consume them about 1-2 seconds after they spawned.

I didn't stay for the second run (life called), but was really disappointed that something is now broken in what used to seem just fine (I've done several of these, master runs and regular, in the past and not been bugged).

I sent a petition for the devs to delete.
  14. That was an awesome bit of fun last night, people! I loved the themes, and just about ***** a brick when I saw "IsweatButter" run by...

Col. Mustard and crew were looking sharp as ever! And MP did make a cute gecko.

My son (@r0y2) and I both loved the event, we each took turns sitting out if 3v3, but enjoyed watching. Something about the level 5 makes pvp much more fun and funny.

The kickball afterward was also really nice, and a tight match! KUDOS to all, but especially to the Denmarkian for going all mental on us and putting this together.

  15. What's this? Shanghai'd back into this game AGAIN!? Damn you bug!

OK, I'll do it! I'll RAGE RE-UP just for this event... and maybe some iTrial grinding.

  16. My problem with Paragon's "micro transaction" model is that it is NOT micro. Most things cost 800 points or more, which is expensive in both real money terms and in free VIP points. Period.

I know this will change, it has to. There are only so many "fanboi" types that will keep this game afloat by spending that kind of capital. Free to play (f2p) players simply will not buy that much, not en masse, at least.

Micro transactions need to be SMALL (hence the name). A new powerset for 500-800 points is fine, but a lot of quality-of-life, minimal labor things (server transfers, name changes, existing AT unlocks, etc) need to be priced much lower. Costume sets need to stay as sets, and all be under 400 (say, 300 or so). Emotes should be the little guys at 10-50 points each, etc.

Right now, there really is nothing that encourages me to buy points and spend them (though I did early on to encourage the model). Beam Rifle was an excellent set and it was onsale at a decent price: I win. Street Justice was expensive (not on sale) and is pretty lackluster, got it anyway: I lose. It's a wash, and I'm not ready to "gamble" again.

I'd say offer a lifetime subscription option, but I'm guessing the ones actually paying for VIP will continue to pay monthly (even though most all of them would jump at a LTS offer, if priced under $300).

Good luck with the market, Paragon. It does still need a TON of work (both interface and pricing structure). I won't be a guinnea pig for it, though. Sorry.
  17. Sorry to res a dead thread, but I was wondering if there were any sort of Android apps for CoH? I was looking for a simple XML-server stat reader, but found nothing. My search fu might be weak.

Because it ticks SOOOOoooo slowly, that the target is usually DEAD before the second or third tick? Other than an EB/AV, bosses don't last long enough to warrant putting damage into such a slow DoT when the rest of the set obliterates them.

I usually just have ACC and maybe a recharge or end... proc if IO'd. I personally do not put damages in disintegrate. YMMV. Of course, I'm playing as a blaster, maybe defenders or corrupters don't kill as fast... ?

    Gakgak!
  19. I have a FF/Dark defender and have tanked AVs... FF is incredibly survivable, and with PB (soul mastery) gets even more insane! Plus, if you team a lot (and not an average-speed team that traps players can keep up with or lead, but a real decent fast-moving, 20 min. ITF style team) you give massive defense to your team!

While, in my experience, dark layered nicely with FF, /rad would be a powerful option, too - an AoE monster. My FF/dark has enough recharge to constantly spam the two cones, and thus has a fun playstyle for me, I think /rad could be similar (just jumping INTO a crowd, instead of lining up with it).

Plus, since you're in the middle of a mob, going Soul Mastery will give you not only the desirable power boost, but also Soul Drain (which is pure lovin' for a pbaoe-centric toon right there).

I hated bubbles forever, not having played one, then I rolled this FF/dark a year or so ago... WOW, was I a fool. Don't under-estimate FF, like one poster said, you only need a few powers from it, and can quickly and easily branch into the power pools.

I only took PFF (which I rarely ever use, just as a place for a LoTG), Deflection Shield, Insulation Shield, and Dispersion Bubble. That's it. Two team-shield powers and your big bubble. 3 powers, mainly. Though PFF is great for situational things.

So I have 3-slotted shields, and 5-slotted Dispersion. That is an investment of 8 slots on top of the default slot for the FF powers. Leaves A LOT open. Maneuvers, Weave, etc. ...and Defenders get higher stats for all of those, which makes soft-capping defense easier.

Finally, while soloing, my Defender hits like a TRUCK. It's all DoT, but I can stack several DoTs to make a sea of numbers above a the mobs... Vigilance is actually pretty nice.

Like you, I would do a Dark/FF (or Rad/FF) Corrupter in a heartbeat, just to get that scourge... even taking the slight hit to defense base numbers.

Good luck with whatever you decide to roll!

lol, has it ever begun? Support in this game is pretty famous for its inability to resolve issues. What it is known for are GMs who do not know anything at all about the game they are "serving" nor any e-mail/petition folks who know anything but A) post it on the forums, or B) We're escalating your issue (which ends up either "working as intended" or "post it on the forums").

Usually for the major bulk of any kind of help, other players are here for it. Unfortunately, there is so much garbage in every thread that finding useful player-driven help (or the very rare dev-help) is a real chore.

I recently came back after a 60 day hiatus, only to find that my personal SG was stolen by one toon that was in at the lowest rank (was temporary, and I did forget to remove him); now, the support reply? Oh, SG's are COMMUNITY property, so sorry for all your years of work being lost... Could I know WHO it was that did it? Nope. Guess it is too much of a community property to know who the only remaining member/thief was (or is). Very professional, NCSoft. Great idea, Devs, on that whole auto-demotion thing. Makes perfect sense to have someone at the lowest rank, who was in the SG for less than a few months be able to STEAL the whole thing after only 45 days. Forget that all those others were there for YEARS.

    Tards.

Besides, there really is no support here. Petitions get generic responses, and when pressed just say, "post it in the forums" - and when people do, fanboys show up and say it doesn't belong.

The lack of any kind of real customer support (i.e. non-technical game issues) is what prevented me from re-sub'ing on my other two accounts.
  22. I am in the beta for an upcomming MMO that takes good vs. evil pretty seriously - sometimes too much so, but that is the road of evil, no? I think it is difficult for this game to do well because they really don't have the custom-for-you world down (like WoW really gets into now-a-days). I mean, you kill contact X, but he/she/it is still there...

I'd love to see something where you destroy a significant thing (like the powerplant in Cap or something) and from that point on, your map is different (no powerplant). Unfortunately, the talent and the toolset for that are obviously missing from this product. It's like being painted into a corner and the only way out is to start over with a wider intention in mind (which is seriously cost-prohibitive).

I'd love to see a ton of contacts/arcs/etc. just removed (mostly blue-side); so much wasted on useless and bad arcs or missions (think pre i13 stuff). The latest missions are definately on the right path, though!
  23. It's not even funny anymore that people proudly admit they have played a specific video game for X years... just wow.

I'm guilty of it, but I don't proudly admit that. Thankfully with "that other" hero MMO going F2P, I'm no longer really caught playing CoH much. I forgot what actual dynamic content was (quit WoW a while back, too).

Still, as a last "thanks for the years, guys" I did re-sub two of my accounts for 2011, but as it's looking, it'll be the last I give 'em, as all my regular co-players have long since moved on.

Hopefully we'll get together and do "that new mission" once in a while for nostalgia's sake.

    We'll see.

    LoL,

The badge is awarded as soon as your opponent zones out into the zone they came from (i.e. Pocket D).

I've had 2nd accounts crash (don't exit while "phased") and didn't get the badge because they never made it back to pocket D. Tested it, and it awards once my other account zoned into Pocket D after quitting.

  25. While any freespec is appreciated, I would really love to see two things happen:

    1) REMOVE the real-money respec from the online store (it's too expensive and was never a good idea) OR change it to a 10-pack of respecs for $10 (and have them like the slots, applied at any character any server at time of login)

    2) Add a 72-hour (or more?) cooldown, repeatable respec TF that is *difficult*

A repeatable respec taskforce (Ouroboros or RWZ) that has it's reward (non-stacking respec) on a 72-hour cooldown would be so nice. It would be a great quality-of-life improvement and really help out people who concentrate on one or two characters and their various builds.
