Quote:Sorry it took so long to see this Psylenz. As I try to work on my last two alts before the game closes, I have been in many PUGs and yes unfortunately there are many who do not understand the might of Defenders and Controllers. Still plenty of "healers" out there, but I do think that the Defender forum and many of the all Defender/Controller teams out there, really showed what those awesome ATs could do.Hello, my first Defender ArticQuark co-founded the all-defender SG on Triumph in the fall of 2004. I have always looked at Repeat Offenders with fondness and a tad of envy. Our crew never blossomed as far as RO but we did get 5 related SGs in a coalition.
Today some players were reminiscing between beating up clockwork on a long Synapse TF (nothing like the record 7 hour ordeal of the long long ago). I brought up the all defender concept as one of the most fun things I had done on City of Heroes. The brute started laughing and talking about no damage and nine hours task forces. Some people supported my/our position. The sad thing was after 8+ years, people are still so ignorant about defenders and teams that don't follow the holy trinity. I shake my head in grief.
I know I've been spoiled by having an AT that did not fall into the holy trinity of MMOs. I will sorely miss my beloved Kinetics with a passion. I don't think I'll ever find a powerset that allowed me continuous unsuppressed speed.
I will miss this game a lot and I will miss that we won't be able to introduce COH players to the power of the Defender. -
Quote:The business model, was to build on the same mechanics as Farmville then micro-transaction every player to death for everything.Zynga is just another in a long line of internet companies that really didn't have a viable, sustainable business model. However they did get their big payday when the company went public and now that it's apparent to all that they can't continue to grow earnings while losing money it's only a mater of time until they they get bought out for pennies on the dollar. The games that made their name are now past their prime and the stories about them simply cloning other developer's games shows that creatively they were just a flash in the pan.
I played Farmville (Hey don't judge me, I'm a gamer, I play A LOT of games...all kinds) because I liked getting the crop mastery signs. Once that got linked to micro-transactions...I let my farm dry out, moved out of the frontier, I fired my chef and left my pets to die. -
One of my most favorite memories is with my beloved Pinball Wizards (all Kinetics SG) and our challenge to keep J-Man alive. The contest was held way back in 2006, way before the AoE buff changes which meant we had to buff everyone individually (SB and ID).
We had a full team of 7 kins and one infamous debt loving tanker against in the shadow shard against the Eyeballs of Doom aka Rularuu spawning LVL 53 enemies. It was one of the best times I've had in the game.
If you want to see the video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_Yb5O3vErM
I am really pleased to have been apart of a group that helped changed people's perception on how powerful all Defenders are. -
You and your touching videos! I made it through all this time without sniffling and now dang it...*shakes fist*
Damn those ninjas slicing onions!
Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my banners, thank you. -
Here are some banners I created for the SAVECOH movement. There are a variety of sizes for use on a number of sites. If anyone needs a custom size, please let me know.
As always, please save the image to your computer for use. If you're using it as a signature, make sure you host the image elsewhere. Please do not hotlink.
I also have a rather large image for my twitter account. You can view the background there http://www.twitter.com/AltyMonkey

The original sound of Fulcrum Shift with the whip crack instead of the current tinker bell sound. It's the sound used in Siphon Power, but it was changed in fulcrum shift because it cause issues.

There's also the City of Heroes facebook group that has been around for a long time. Lots of folks in there will still be discussing the game, even if it closes its doors.
-
The very first thing that made City of Heroes unique for me was the fact that they had an extensive skin tone palette, which allowed me to make heroes that looked like me. That palette actually represented the skin tones of the world. There are 3 rows of 10 shades each having undertones of red, yellow and I believe green...30 different shades for skin colors. I do not know of any other MMO that has that many or would even take the time to make that many. I know this seems like a very tiny thing, but it really is not.
Skin tone palettes are extremely important because it says to me that the makers of the game actually have a good world view and understand that people come in a variety of colors and not all from a eurocentric palette. I'm an African American woman and a large portion of my characters are African American women. I probably have more black female superheroes than there are in the entire comic universe. Sure that could be exaggeration but the sad part is, it probably is not.
City of Heroes allowed me to create the characters I wanted to play and to have characters look the way I wanted them to look. -

I'll just repeat what I posted on the Titan forums. I believe this is not the direction we want to go in. Especially when it's only 2 weeks out and there appears to be an expectation of response. So because we're not getting that response we are moving to spamming their inbox. They are not on our timeline. We've sent them actual letters because we thought it was better than email which is easily ignored. People have strong reactions to floods of emails, and usually it is not good.
The only reason I see that we're doing this email route is because they're not responding as rapidly as WE think they should. That is not a good reason.
I'm behind the movement and all we've done. I think we should continue our efforts and get more media attention. I think mailing letters, capes and masks is great. In game events, videos. We need physical representations of our love of the game and why we want to save it. We need to show that we are real people, we do that by sending real letters, and items to make people real to let them know this decisions is harming real people. -
Instead of black, why not do a themed costume.
How about a Paragon Noir day with everyone wearing Grayscale colors (1st row of the color chart only)
Or a Steampunk day using Browns.
Or Sci Fi day
Or Beast day
Or Robots/Cyborg
Or Ninjas
Or Zombies -
Quote:Huh? What makes you think he's not being paid? He's part of the skeleton crew left to man the ship before it goes down. I'm pretty sure that Zwill, as much as he loves us, loves his family more and likes to provide for them. He would NOT be doing this without a paycheck. I sure as heck hope he wouldn't be, I don't want that kind of dedication from our devs/community reps. I want them to get paid for their hard work, that's part of why we paid a subscription.Zwill, I wish I could buy you a beer. Standing in to mitigate some of the discontent we're feeling on this issue when you're not even being paid for it deserves at least that. Thanks for passing along the concerns. For the time being, I'm willing to take your non-official response.

I have been and still am on the Titan forum, and there's much more organizing to be done. Especially for social media.
-
You're not the first nor will you be the last to make that suggestion. It's difficult when folks are passionate about saving COH. If the owners of those pages could come together and give Content Creator permissions to those who are leading the preservation efforts at Titan Network, or their selected reps, then it would be better at focusing the messages, engaging the fans and getting more people involved.
It's early so I expect there to be some chaos before things get smoothed out a bit. This is just week 1. Also not everyone is a social media wizard so the more folks that offer suggestions (on the titan forums works better since that's the HQ of the effort), it helps a lot. -
Okay, this is my self serving question because all the good stuff has been asked already:
So everyone in Repeat Offenders plays the "Who's the hidden dev in RO" game, but we would like to finally solve the mystery of who was in the Repeat Offenders or ran with us? We do have some confirmed generalizations but it'd be nice to know for sure.
Also thank you Castle for giving us our slogan.
Please feel free to PM me the answer...cause it would make our day. -
Please add Derek "Sailor Rush" R. to your list. His global was @Sailor Rush. He played mostly on Virtue and he loved this game very much. We all in RO miss him greatly. He passed on September 7, 2010. We're coming up on the anniversary of his passing.
Here's his .costume file.

If you need any more details, please let me know. -
Write this up and mail it directly to NCSoft, that way you can be assured that someone from that company will read it. Sitting on the forum means that perhaps only the players and those still left at Paragon Studios will read it.
Click the link below for company addresses and guidelines along with some letters that players sent: http://bit.ly/write2ncsoft -
Has anyone drafted a press release, so those in the media would have easy access to the information. Or any type of media kit for the Save City of Heroes effort? Make it easier for the press to obtain information on the rescue efforts.
I also notice on Twitter, many are using #COH or #CityOfHeroes hashtags, perhaps start trending with #SaveCOH or #SaveCityofHeroes If you get it trending high enough on twitter, more folks will get interested.
(I'll cross post to the Titan forums) -
If only we could get this one thing before it closes down, that would be great!

Man that login screen brings back memories....Wow I had totally forgotten what 8 slots looked like.

This forum is the birthplace of Repeat Offenders, I'll miss it greatly. From the old days of the "healer" threads to the very beginnings of RO with Teklord's Pinball Wizards (all Kins) and Green Machine (all Empathy Def) to Tormentoso's Perfect Storm (all Storms). We in RO are very proud to have helped prove that Defenders were more than just "healers".
Thank you Defenders, for I am very proud to have played such a great Archetype in this City of Heroes.
Enjoy the game and savor the memories,

Not currently, I just ran a test demo and the client loaded then the demo.
Make sure you're putting in the -demoplay line here:
Then hit OK and PLAY NOW as you normally would. -
Repeat Offenders Network will still carry on. If you want a place to talk about COH when the lights go out, we'll be around.

Quote:Here's one of the avatars that Altoholic_Monkey made for Lucas for St Patrick's Day. He loved it.
I just learned about this today in light of everything, I'm doubly sad. I'm so sorry to learn he's passed I had fun making his avatars and joking with him on the forum.
My heartfelt condolences to his family.
