    I tweaked the build further with this in mind. I don't feel the res pvp io is worth the price. I think 35% is pretty good as is.

  2. Thanks guys. I incorporated some of your suggestions and reworked my build some. I decided to opt out of fire and went with body. I don't see myself using them much so they would just be mules. Plus I wanted my endurance to be more reasonable. I think I managed that with this build.

    The numbers are:

    - Soft capped def to all 3 positions
    - Only lose 6 end per min. (after 10 min or so, pop conserve power to refill blue bar)
    Able to run all eight toggles with no end issues. I am including .4 end for the (2) chance for end procs.
    - DDR at 90%
    - 157% global recharge
    - Over 2000 hp
    - Should be able to run the MG, Smite, SL, Smite chain smoothly

    As to underslotting Deflection, I do that on purpose. Weave and Maneuvers address all 3 defensive types (that I care about), while deflection only addresses melee. I am already capped to that so why waste a slot there. IMHO.

    So guys, can you find any more improvements? I am just about ready to start slotting his IO's.

  4. I don't understand EM/SD scrapper as overrated.

    If I ask in the forums what is the best overall ST damage scrapper, I will generally get DM/SD. If I ask in the forums what is the best overall AOE damage scrapper, I will generally get EM/SD.

    If each of those live up to their expectation, then what is overrated about them? If you want one that does ST and AOE equally well you will probably get an entirely different answer.

    I wanted an AOE beast and EM/SD is most definetly that and then some. And btw, after my three AOE's have been fired, I can 3-4 shot most any boss and move on. Bosses are not a problem for me. (for the record, there are some bosses that give me fits, just as there are exceptions for any toon type)

    For me, fire/kin ranks up there. I had one for quite awhile. For certain foes, he was superb. For most others, he was just average. But if I was just looking for a farmer then the fire/kin would be the best for that without question. Again, IMO.

    Perhaps it comes down to our personal definitions of "Overhyped".
  5. Should I give up 3-4% def and pick up aid self or stay soft capped and live with only eating green candy?

    I am just not sure if aid self is very practical during battle.

    This is a lvl 50 el/sd and is capped at 45% def to M/R/A.

    Oh, and what do most of you prefer, aid other or stimulant? I figure if I am going to get one, it should be the most useful. Or perhaps muling is a better option.

  6. Thanks for the responses. I just assumed the slider was to set the lvl of the recipe you wanted random rolled. It seems like it should work that way. Not sure I understand why it doesnt. Seems like it somewhat penalizes higher level toons. There are quite a few recipes that are a better value at lower levels. Oh well...

  7. I put slider on lvl 29, chose lvl 25-30 reward roll and got a lvl 40 and lvl 50 recipe.

    I noticed this before, but didn't quite put 2 and 2 together and figure something was wrong. Has anyone else noticed this?

    I filed a bug report. Not sure if I am doing anything wrong or it is actually a bug. I just can't believe this is by design.
  8. Hmm, I thought that neutrino bolt (or something like that) was great because you could easily get the recharge under that cast time, which made it basically auto. I guess I am remembering that wrong. At least the mechanics of it.

    MG
    rech: 3.88
    cast: 2.24 (w/Arcanatime)
    SL
    rech: 3.37
    cast: 2.11 (w/Arcanatime)


    MG's cooldown time is 3.88-2.24=1.64. Doesn't that mean that SL's cast time covers that?

    SL's cooldown time is 3.37-2.11=1.26. Doesn't that mean that MG's cast time covers that?

    If this isn't correct, can someone please explain. I am fairly good at math and I feel that this shouldn't be this hard to figure out. I must be missing something easy.

  10. I currently have a (mids) softcapped build with 228% global recharge. Is SL + MG as a seemless attack chain going to work? I have tried to figure out the numbers and nothing is making sense. Especially when I try to use Arcanatime. I give up. Help please.

Sure I could add the leadership pool, but look how much endurance that pool would cost. Some of my toons could take recall friend, but out of that pool I wouldn't need anything else. And so on.

    Which leads me to this question. Why can't or wouldn't they lower the start of the 3 slot lvls. Move it from lvl 33 to say lvl 23. That would add 5 new slots and really allow us to benefit from the new inherents.

  14. You guys are right about the 300dps. I didn't word what was in my head very well. I do have an anything goes 300dps goal. I also have the other goal, just no preconceived number. I am hoping around 250dps with just my build powers and auto accolades and nothing else.

  15. Yeah I didn't trust that first build. I noticed most of the same things you mentioned, Werner.

    I have been tweaking 2 builds in mids. This DM/SD and a DM/SR. I believe I have an optimal build for SR and am going to transfer some of the things I learned to the SD build. I will compare them and go from there.

    My goal is to beat the 300dps mark against a pylon. However I am imposing some personal rules. It can only be build powers, auto accolades, no temps of any kind, no insps, no outside help and no cannon fodder. That means running on your own endurance without popping blue candy. I know it is a long shot, but I want something new to do. Plus, it seems that SD holds all 5 top dps spots. So putting SR right up there would be nice.

    I am not sure about using the Hamio's for the defense slots. I hate to give up the HP. I know, 60 doesnt sound like much, but I still hate to give it up. I will have to think on that some more.

    Oh, and I figured out why my numbers for total DPS is off. I didn't figure in the Pylons regen. Based on what I found on the boards, I seems like I need to subtract roughly 125dps from my total number. That should be enough to overcome the regen. So my 375dps is probably closer to 250 dps.

    DDR = 95% (dbl stacked)
    Rech = 170%
    Def 3 positional = 41%
    Regen = 270%
    Max HP = 2070
    End = 3.55/1.17

    My attack chain will be MG, Smite, SL, Smite. I can also go SL, Smite if I need the xtra healing.

    Tell if I am wrong. Based on AV soloing after firing SD and saturating AAO on just 1 target, then for the next 30 seconds I am averaging 375 dam/sec. I figure that MG, Smite, SL, Smite is good for 1500 total dam. I get that in 4 sec and can sustain it for 30 sec. Barring things like misses and whatnot, am I in the ballpark?

    I am also not sure how to correctly calculate endurance use. I think I will be behind but not sure. Can anyone tell me if this is sustainable with my endurance?

    Do I have any other glaring holes or things that need to be address?

  17. Does it stack with itself? I have its recharge down to around 60 sec. Does that mean that KB is mag 20 as long as I have it autoclicked?

  18. I stand corrected. In my haste to post, I included all powers that gave DDR into the Active Defense power. The correct number should indeed be 70.2%. I have corrected my original post.

  19. My apologies, I should have clarified. This is not intented as a specialized build. If I go AV hunting it would be with a team. If I felt like soloing 2or3/8's I think I could. This build is for general PvE content. If the team lost the tank, I could most definetly take the alpha.

    I tend to roll toons and play them until I just get sick of them. So I only have 2 lvl 50's, a lvl 47 and 3 lvl 30's. None of them are built for high recharge. I am defensive minded, so when I put this build together I got a little excited that I could have my cake and eat it also.

  20. Here are the basics

    Global recharge: 195%
    Damage: Power Siphon + AAO (x4) = 200%
    DDR = 70%
    Defense: 58% for 15 seconds out of every 23 seconds.

    Ghost Widow & Hasten are perma

    Shadow Meld is down for 8 sec at a time. So click Meld and Power Siphon and run into group, hit 3-4 singles on boss (this allows fairly developed damage boost along with AAO) then hit shield charge. Along with Ghost Widow, finish what is left.

    I know this is all on paper and I havent even rolled this yet. Can it be this good, or am I missing something?

    Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate the feedback and the build.

    My endurance 'net' is actually 2.34 end/sec if you allow the Per. Shifter + end IO's to count as .2 end/sec each. I have 3 for a +.6 end/sec. I remember reading somewhere that someone calculated the average they gave and it was roughly .2 end/sec. That is good enough for me. Also, as you state later, FA probably won't be on often, so that pushes it up to 2.88 end/sec.

    I am not sure about Maneuvers being terrible. That and combat jump give me 7.3 def to all for less than .4 end/sec and allows me 2 lotg's. With my goal being 40% def to all, I pretty much need those two.

    I wasnt really trying to go for recharge, it just worked out that way.

    I see what you mean about mixing the defense bonuses. However, the 2 oblits do offer almost 4 S/L def and 10%rech. Besides there is no other set that offers S/L def.

    FA was a means to an end. I wanted the purple set in Laser Eyes and the extra regen in Phys Perfection. I couldnt get those without FA. I just dont think conserve power would be useful for this toon. While FA is high on the end drain, it is useful on those hard targets.

  22. I am going to try this build. Let me know what you all think.

    The basics are as follows:
    *40%+ def to all six types and psionics.
    *Regen at 785 (with 1 in range) and +2 end /sec.
    *I am not worried about recharge tho even without hasten I am at 75% recharge.
    *I am also going to rely on Ninja run for my travel. It is about 4mph slower than maxed out fly. That is enough for me.
    *I have enough offensive powers and taunt to keep most of the aggro.

    Does anyone see anything glaring this build is missing? Thanks to everyone,

  23. Thanks to everyone for their input. I took a look at everyones advice and incorporated most of it. This is probably my final build. I have all the powers I want and I think they are slotted well. The main purpose of this build is teaming, but I think I can solo when I want to late game.

    The big one that stands out, that I didn't use, was I put a range enhanc in howl in addition to the posi's. That gives me a 70' range instead of 50'. That effectively gives me double the target area so I can get that 20% resist debuff on more targets for the team.

    I also just cant get into fallout. Folks either get rezzed by others before I can, or they hospital or rez themselves. I have a rez and vengeance and that should be plenty team support.

    I went Dark for my epic. I like the idea of Oppresive Gloom and Screech. This should get the bosses also. My heal will make back any damage I lost. Follow up with Soul Drain and I should do decent solo damage.

  24. I do not plan to solo at all. I usually do not build for this much recharge, but it is so easy to do. I plan to run SS w/stealth so am hoping I can buff/debuff without needing much defense.

    I am a little concerned with my power order after lvl 30. I am not sure what is going to help the team more. I am also considering droping CJ for Recall Friend. I really want to be as team oriented as possible.

    Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

  25. I am new to fenders myself. I am more tanker/scraper in my playstyle. I was one of those who thanked whoever for the heals. Because I wasn't dying or losing health I just assumed it was heals, whether there were green numbers flying around me or not.

    Having rolled my first cold/ice fender, I now have a new appreciation for this AT. I was lvl 14 playing a lvl 20 pug team. I afk'd outside for one mission and when I came back I read over team chat this comment "we havent had that defender this mission so I don't know what that did to the team dynamic". They had wiped twice. As a cold/ice I have no heals, but can provide roughly 24% def to all positional types. Before that, I was unsure if I was really contributing much to the team. Now I know better. (to be fair, there was another AT casting steamy mist for additional defense).

    That said, welcome to the ranks of the Defenders. I for one am glad I joined.
