DM/SD build critique plz...

Short version...
DDR = 95% (dbl stacked)
Rech = 170%
Def 3 positional = 41%
Regen = 270%
Max HP = 2070
End = 3.55/1.17

My attack chain will be MG, Smite, SL, Smite. I can also go SL, Smite if I need the xtra healing.

Tell if I am wrong. Based on AV soloing after firing SD and saturating AAO on just 1 target, then for the next 30 seconds I am averaging 375 dam/sec. I figure that MG, Smite, SL, Smite is good for 1500 total dam. I get that in 4 sec and can sustain it for 30 sec. Barring things like misses and whatnot, am I in the ballpark?

I am also not sure how to correctly calculate endurance use. I think I will be behind but not sure. Can anyone tell me if this is sustainable with my endurance?

Do I have any other glaring holes or things that need to be address?

P.S. I take the Gaussians proc out just to see the damage numbers correctly. Put it back in to verify the defense numbers.

You'd be better slotting for 45% defense to all positions. Quick answer DPS doesn't work that way, it is beyond my knowledge of this game, a good measure is to go fight a Rikti pylon and record the time and use the equation posted in the pylon soloing thread.

Here is a quick fix to that, you lose 15% recharge but you gain soft capped defense.

Your build is less than optimal; it can't even run the MG>Smite>SL>Smite chain. You keep spamming it in every thread, which is upsetting because you're purporting it to be the end-all-be-all of DM/SD builds when it's really quite sub-par. This is quite misleading to new players.

@ OP: Sant's build is certainly good, but since your initial build shows use of both Purples and the PVP IO, I'd suggest looking through this thread:

Trust me, Aaron, don't. It seems like SOMEonE Nice wants to show us all how it's done, which is great and all, except that he or she doesn't seem to know how it's done.

From another thread where the same build was posted, things that are jumping right out at me in his or her build:
  • Can't run the top attack chain gapless
  • AoE isn't soft-capped
  • Steadfast Protection knockback IO when you're already immune to knockback (and if it's for the 0.03 EPS recovery, you can do much better elsewhere)
  • Cytoskeletons should be Enzymes
  • Microfilament in Super Speed? You're over the cap for speed, and you don't need endurance reduction in a travel power.
  • Endurance won't be sustainable (probably good enough for normal play)
  • Two full set mules? That's not strictly a failure, but I'd rather my powers and slots be doing something for me other than bonuses.
  • Not particularly good defense debuff resistance, which is one of the perks of Shield Defense

I'm sure there's more, but hopefully the point is made. It's not a BAD build overall, but it's far from "trust me jsut do mine hah". You can do better.

Edit: Also not saying that there wouldn't be a similar list for your build or Santorican's quick edit. Tracking down a better build is a good idea, though.

Yeah I didn't trust that first build. I noticed most of the same things you mentioned, Werner.

I have been tweaking 2 builds in mids. This DM/SD and a DM/SR. I believe I have an optimal build for SR and am going to transfer some of the things I learned to the SD build. I will compare them and go from there.

My goal is to beat the 300dps mark against a pylon. However I am imposing some personal rules. It can only be build powers, auto accolades, no temps of any kind, no insps, no outside help and no cannon fodder. That means running on your own endurance without popping blue candy. I know it is a long shot, but I want something new to do. Plus, it seems that SD holds all 5 top dps spots. So putting SR right up there would be nice.

I am not sure about using the Hamio's for the defense slots. I hate to give up the HP. I know, 60 doesnt sound like much, but I still hate to give it up. I will have to think on that some more.

Oh, and I figured out why my numbers for total DPS is off. I didn't figure in the Pylons regen. Based on what I found on the boards, I seems like I need to subtract roughly 125dps from my total number. That should be enough to overcome the regen. So my 375dps is probably closer to 250 dps.

Losing 60 HP isn't horribly detrimental to your survivability, you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference between not having that much. Most of your survivability comes from your defense and from siphon life's heal.

I really don't think 300+ DPS is going to happen without cannon fodder given that some of the really good players with really good builds haven't broken 300 WITH cannon fodder. Shred Monkey broke 300 DPS, but on a much shorter fight, so random chance probably played a larger role.

As far as what's wrong with your 375 DPS calculation, I'm guessing you aren't taking Arcanatime into account? The time required in an attack chain for an attack is (roundup(RawAttackTime/0.132)+1)*0.132 seconds. Also, we generally take accuracy into account as well, since you have to hit to do damage. And of course Soul Drain takes time, and won't be quite permanent, even with a super recharge build.

When we calculate DPS against a pylon, we're backing out the resistance to get a pre-resistance figure. We don't back out the accuracy to get a "if every attack hit" figure.

Yeah, even with fodder, the 300 mark is tough to get, so going fodderless isn't goign to cut it.

Once bills stop being so inconvenient and I can afford FRAPS, I intend to give it another go. Sadly, WeGame doesn't support Windows XP 64-bit, so I must shell out for FRAPS. <mumbles about real life being a bother>

You guys are right about the 300dps. I didn't word what was in my head very well. I do have an anything goes 300dps goal. I also have the other goal, just no preconceived number. I am hoping around 250dps with just my build powers and auto accolades and nothing else.

I hope that clears it up better.

Well to you're tying one arm behind your back by not having any AAo fuel. If you have a power designed around adding damage by having enemies around you why wouldn't you use that to your advantage?
