KM/SD...is this really that good or only on paper?

Here are the basics

Global recharge: 195%
Damage: Power Siphon + AAO (x4) = 200%
DDR = 70%
Defense: 58% for 15 seconds out of every 23 seconds.

Ghost Widow & Hasten are perma

Shadow Meld is down for 8 sec at a time. So click Meld and Power Siphon and run into group, hit 3-4 singles on boss (this allows fairly developed damage boost along with AAO) then hit shield charge. Along with Ghost Widow, finish what is left.

I know this is all on paper and I havent even rolled this yet. Can it be this good, or am I missing something?

Today's build is brought to you by... the color purple.

The only thing that bothers me about the build would be the 8 seconds of defensive downtime and 3 seconds of animation time that would occure during extended fights (ie AVs, pylons) that seems like a lifetime when up against those types of heavy hitters. But if that isn't something you care to do then go for it! It seems very impressive!

My apologies, I should have clarified. This is not intented as a specialized build. If I go AV hunting it would be with a team. If I felt like soloing 2or3/8's I think I could. This build is for general PvE content. If the team lost the tank, I could most definetly take the alpha.

I tend to roll toons and play them until I just get sick of them. So I only have 2 lvl 50's, a lvl 47 and 3 lvl 30's. None of them are built for high recharge. I am defensive minded, so when I put this build together I got a little excited that I could have my cake and eat it also.

With the recharge he will be putting out Active Defense will stack and place him at the cap. Though I believe it's cap is 95% and was the intended statement. :-)

According to Mids, You have 52.9% DDR, with one stack of active defense, and around 70% with a second stack, can't see any way with that build you hit anywhere 95% DDR consistently.

I stand corrected. In my haste to post, I included all powers that gave DDR into the Active Defense power. The correct number should indeed be 70.2%. I have corrected my original post.

If you want to solo AVs you're going to need to drastically change your build, without Shadow Meld you're at 26% defense to all positions. In the amount of time it takes for SM to recharge you could be killed very quickly by an AV.

From my understanding, taking Quick Strike is beneficial to building your Power Siphon buff. If I were to build a KM/Shield, it'd look something like this.

It's an interesting build. Like you said, fire off Shadow Meld, run in, body blow, smashing blow, body blow, concentrated strike gives 4x PS buffs, then shield charge.

I have to say though, I would find having to spend 3 seconds casting shadow meld every 23 seconds would get really annoying really fast. Plus even with the damage buffs, shield charge isn't going to kill everything. Power Siphon is nice, but it's only really a bit better then buildup for short term. The advantage of Power siphon is that it lasts longer then Buildup. But this build is all about quick finishes, which isn't working to Kin's strength.

Yes, it's got a ton of recharge, but ultimately your giving up too much. I think the build Santorican posted would be much more playable. I personally might build a tiny bit different, but all in all, I think Shadow meld is not really that useful on Def based characters, and only slightly useful on non def characters. it's too short, and takes too long to cast to really be all that. It will be a nice alpa breaker for regen and willpower builds. Otherwise I would skip it.
