Help me create my last Hero!
VisiCalc jumps to mind automatically for a name -- have not done a name check for availability.
Edit: I see him as more of a dominator with Mind Control as a primary -- mesmerizing, (mass) confusing, mass hypnotizing and terrifying people with numbers....oh yeah. Secondary not determined yet.
Edit2: Perhaps with Thorny Assault for a secondary...a brain like his calcuates all of the projectiles' vectors with extreme.....precision.

There is only one name that could POSSIBLY be used for this character.
Behold...
The Pocket Protector!
A professional and timeless look. Note, however, that he has opted for more efficient (and less costly) sneakers, as ruining Italian leather shoes running into burning buildings and into sewers is just not a good return on investment. Also note that he has not sacrificed his vision to protect his anonymity - over his feature-concealing domino mask are his specialty prescription glasses. (He paid extra for the carbon protection after nearly catching shrapnel with the lenses, and glasses are just prohibitively expensive.)

His regular name should be Cliff..
so Obvious name is Obvious
FISCAL CLIFF
I'm lousy with names but his costume should consist of a tie that is also a domino mask.
Like... the only difference between his hero costume and civillian wear is that the tie doubles as a mask.
Ripping off your clothes every time there's trouble or taking the time to squeeze into spandex is costly.
And then a name and powerset popped into mind. Time is Money (see, lousy with names) uses time manipulation to get things done efficiently... yeah I don't know.
EDIT: No! better name... THE CALCULATOR
My first thoughts would be Balance Sheet or In the Black. Or Balanced Ledger. (Balanced Ledger Man?)
Also, it sounds like the kind of character that should be in one of my stories, and I wish I'd thought of it.
Also, I might still steal it.
Possibly a mostly black costume with balance scales on the chest. I'd have to think about it a bit more, but that's my first ideas.
Also, his catch phrase should be "Justice hangs in the balance!" After which he pauses to calculate exact costs pro and con for his actions.

Names:
Pecuniary Protector-defender, or controler
Shrewd Samaritan-scrapper
Adventure Capitalist-somthing with high offense with risk to it's playstyle- blaster maybe
Tabulating Templar-tanker
Off the top of my head. I tend to use alliteration when making characters with very specific themes.
Not sure on costume, though one slot should be reserved for the mandatory brown plain suit with a hat and thick black glasses a la accountant(day job). Maybe low levels use the suit, and then as level progresses make something with more flare as the character would be taking on bigger foes in locations more exotic then the street in King's Row.
Also, fly. The shortest distance is a straight line, and fly is the most adaptable to terrain.
As for power sets, I think it depends on the name you choose, and an AT that fits with that name. I tend to think precision would be an important aspect, so probably not anything fire as it is messy and unpredictable. Dual blades? LOL at brown suit accountant putting his phone in his coat pocket and busting out two huge swords to go stop a mugging. Really though for powers, I would go with whatever your favorite is, after all its probably the last go round

In every situation, our Hero pops out his handy-dandy Smartphone and runs through the numbers so that he can be heroic AND fiscally responsible. This guy isn't about getting endorsement or self-promotion, he just wants to save the most number of people with finite resources. And he never leaves home without finishing at least one financial forecast.
But what would we call him? |
Paragon City Search And Rescue
The Mentor Project
Holy Sheet.
I haven't come up with a hero name yet, but I'll toss this in for the character's real name: Maximilian or Maximina Roi
From thinkbabynames.com
\max(i)-mi-lian\ as a boy's name is of Latin origin, and the meaning of Maximilian is "greatest".
\max(i)-mi-na\ as a girl's name is a variant of Maxine (Latin), and the meaning of Maximina is "greatest".
We'll assume he/she likes to use Max as his/her nickname.
roi\ as a boy's name is a variant of Roy (Irish, Gaelic), and the meaning of Roi is "red".
Eh, we'll just use it as a last name. Of course, I'm going for "ROI" which is the acronym for "return on investment".
Thus we have: Max ROI.
Although, you could play the girls name further as Max/min ROI.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
With apologies to Xieveral: The Ethical Calculator. (Not only is it within the length requirement, but it's actually free on Virtue.)
Bots/FF MM. Ostensibly this is so that he can make efficient use of his helpful robot army, maximizing heroic output while minimizing personal risk, but really it's so that you can gives your bots appropriate names. I don't know if you'd normally go for famous economists (Keynesbot 9000: "IN THE LONG RUN WE ARE ALL DELETED") or marketing terms or what have you, but the point of masterminds is that you get to name seven characters, not just one. Also, this is one of the game's most hands-off combos. All you have to do is renew bubbles every two minutes and specify targets, and the rest of the time you can fiddle with your smartphone. Bots/time would probably be more powerful, but you'd actually have to work at it.
make a military costume - General Ledger!!
Jack Benny had a famous skit in which he was held up by a mugger with the typical line, "Your money or your life!" Jack stood around for a long pause until the bandit tried to hurry him up, "I said your money or your life...", at which point Jack bursts out, "I'm thinking! I'm thinking!" The character he portrayed was notoriously stingy. Your concept reminded me of this.
I support the General Ledger name.
Make him bots/traps and he only calls the minimum number of devices and bots to do the job.
Also make a macro for when your teaming to say "afk buying more ammo".
I created a toon named Number Cruncher on Exalted. He was an introverted accountant, that through an accident was mutated into an Inv/SS tank. His background lines up with your concept.

Well, this one seems terribly obvious to me, but here it goes:
Roi, The Fiscally Responsible Hero!
Alternatively ROI or R.O.I. would also work, though it wrecks the Roi/Roy idea.
Illusion/Kin Controller
or
Mercenaries/Time Mastermind
Have fun and thanks for everything.
Reading your concept made me think of a heroic counterpart to the Clock King (as depicted in Batman: The Animated Series). Sort of like a heroic efficiency expert.
I suggest the names "Optimizer" or "Maximizer" with two possible variants: ranged/support and melee.
1) Corruptor/Defender pairing Kinetics with Beam Rifle. Kinetics seems efficient because you're leveraging an opponent's force to use against him or her. Likewise, Beam Rifle has the Disintegrate mechanic, which also seems efficient by allowing you to inflict additional damage.
2) Scrapper with Kinetic Melee and Super Reflexes. Same rationale for KM as Kinetics above. With regard to SR, you're forcing your opponent to waste their power with futile attacks. You could conceivably achieve the same result with Shields, but then you're looking at higher costs with regard to equipment and maintenance when the shield inevitably gets damaged and hey, money doesn't grow on trees. Alternatively, you could choose Willpower for a secondary because your guy seems a little obsessive/compulsive and determined to get the most bang for his heroic buck.
There's a concept character I always wanted to make, and I figure this is the week for it. I know the theme, but I don't have a name or costume. So could you guys help me out with that?
This was partly triggered by the discussion on Skyfall with Arcanaville. You guys know this scenario? Villain: "Surrender, Hero, or I'll kill this defenseless civillian I've captured!" Hero: "Very well, I give up, but don't harm him/her!" I always thought that scenario was bad. Because if I had super-powers, I'm pretty sure I'd do a LOT more good alive than dead, even at the expense of one hostage. I'd feel bad for the bad hostage, but hey, I just avenged them AND stopped the bad guy from hurting even more people! Superheroes just don't seem to think about the big picture enough. And that got me started thinking about the greatest hero of all..... [INSERT NAME HERE], The Fiscally Responsible Hero! Our hero has a massive spreadsheet at home that he uses to calculate just how economical each act of heroism is, so he can figure out the Return on Investment.

Only you Pebble only you. Would think a hero would go around calculating peoples net worth on the spot and weather it's worth it to save them or not, I love it.
my favourite part
Villain wants you to give yourself up in exchange for hostages? Well let's do the math and figure out the potential future earnings of all of the hostages and compare that to the money that's saved by the Hero stopping disasters. |
That orphanage is screwed
Just make him a villain and get it done with lol.
edit the switch for vip posting has flipped maybe it will last long enough for me to post in the twinkie thread lol
I'm pretty sure you need to make a character named Golden Girl.
Here's a picture for inspiration:
Hm...
I think I'd like to add the name of "Bean Counter" to the list. A Mind/Kinetics comptroller... er Controller. While you may not do a lot of damage, you do know how to "motivate" your co-workers to be as efficient as possible.
