Wildstar article at Massively, if anyone cares to comment there....
As long as you keep in mind that Carbine Studios did not directly cause CoH to get shut down, and that they're a group of people who work for a living and are only tied to NCSoft because they supply them with the paychecks that keep them going, say what you have to. There's no reason not to show them at least a cursory amount of respect, even if you do not intend to play their game.
Personally, I was interested in at least trying WildStar from the information I saw last year, though I never expected that I would subscribe full-time the way I had been with CoH... but now I will never play the game as long as they're tied to NCSoft. However, I will also not berate them for that.
Just like I won't eat at Chick-fil-A or Papa John's due to a deep disagreement with the way upper management runs those companies, I'm not going to take it out on the local restaurants by posting bad reviews all over the web for things that the local branch has no control over.

I also see in it what people here have wanted.
More detail? Yup.
More character customization? Yup.
Individual fingers? Yup.
Moving hair? Yup.
Lacks decency? That's more of just what people want to focus on.
Or am I mistaken, and those outfits are indecent?
For all the talk of "not the usual overweight american look to characters" on the CoH forums, I never saw that many who kept put the waist slider to max to get rid of the hourglass figure in game.
Oh sure, they're was plenty who put a bit on the mass (for a bigger look), but the curves stayed.
And breast slider set to minimum? Yeah, that wasn't popular either. Which really was a fun thing, as my main was set to minimum, and being an RPer, I did love those moments she could be all early years Jubilee, look around at other members of the SG and wonder why she lacked the most common of superpowers

Let me see it when it's animated
When the Wildstar Beta was announced, I was intrigued enough by the game that I attempted, unsuccessfully, to get into the beta. Finding out after the closure was announced, that CoH was the 5th MMO that NcSoft has shuttered, I'm hesitant to play that game. Not because I hate NcSoft, but because I don't trust them to make decisions that are best for their customers.
We've been told that CoH was profitable by the former PS management. NcSoft has never told us it wasn't. Closing a profitable branch of your business, in a manner that "smells like politics", would leave me thinking "what's next?" Maybe in a few years, if they've shown a change in direction, I might try another NcSoft title. For now I'm not comfortable spending money on their games. Who knows if I ever will.

But sure. There are certain... female standards of the superhero comic genre that CoH allowed you to model fairly closely. No one's saying that it didn't? (uh, doesn't!)
Personally, I'm just comparing this to this. B&S is so silly I can't stop snickering at the shameless beefcake. I don't mind that you like that... I like a good laugh as much as the next guy. But c'mon.
(And no, from your post history I'm not expecting you to get the difference. But that doesn't mean the rest of us can't share a good laugh.)

And I know you will bring many things this game allows, but fact is this game not only has much more cartoony style, but also went out of its way to avoid overly sexual things like visual nipples or color pallets that would allow players to have a naked-ish look by "smart" tinting of spandex.
B&G is intentionally pursuing that, though, they are intentionally giving you the ability to cover everyone in butter!!! And it's not like they deny it either, they ask you for your birth date even to enter their page. That's not to appease the outcry, that's exactly what they aimed for. The artist they hired to lead the character design is famous precisely due to his near-hentai "soft-core" style.
I personally dont care, it's not like I want the game banned. But I feel forced to poke fun at the topic every time someone tries to defend something NCSoft themselves openly admit about the game's risqué design.
"All the world's a fashion show catwalk."
Philosophy of all cultures in the B&S universe.
Who was talking about outfits?

But that said, I find walk seems to be more for the RPers than the general game players, as the general game players want to get from point A to point B asap. And a lot of RPers, in my experience, lean in a certain direction.

The difference between the two is remarkably like the difference between the average runway walk (CoH) and a stripper making her way to the pole (B&S).
Er...so I hear...

Actually, those costumes (which I should point out BrandX kinda cherry-picked...more on that in a sec) are not objectionable, IMO. She quite correctluy points out that it's very possible to make a female character in that game that doesn't look like a streetwalker.
However...
And there are countless additional examples...

You clearly weren't around for the first few years of CoH, when it was always cold in Paragon City.

This post from a few years ago by Lothic explains the history a bit more in depth.
The so-called "Nipple Nerf" was among the very first patches applied to the game about a week or so after it launched back in April 2004. Not only did it address the female nipple texture issue but it also (IIRC) removed the flesh-tone colors that were originally available for costume items. With those colors available it was very easy (or at least much easier than it is now) to create naked-looking characters.
The original appearance of female nipples in this game were never really as blatantly obvious as some people remember them to be. Basically the way the polygons looked on the female body form made it look, from certain angles, like there was a bit of something sticking out there. I think all the Devs did was slightly edit the model just enough to smooth over the rough edges so to speak to minimize the mere 'hint' of nipple. From a realism point of view I wouldn't mind if there were more direct ways for these kinds of things to be part of the character models. But I understand that as a Teen rated game there's only so much realism the Devs are going to tolerate and having to be be stuck with featureless Barbie and Ken dolls is clearly safer from the "don't want to piss off overly sensitive parents" standpoint. I suspect the only reason female nipples were nerfed to the degree that they were was to appease someone who complained about it. Oh well. *shrugs* |

Though, looking at your examples here, again, nothing worse than I saw in CoH.

Years? More like weeks. The devs fixed both the nipples and the flesh colored tights by the time I entered the game in August 2004. I remember the forums at the time had a thread on how to patch your game client with the original art to allow you to use and see the "nipple" costume pieces but only on your own computer.
