Really? No VIP treatment for everyone? Why?

Doesn't answer the why.
Be well, people of CoH.
Also means that it's probably something we won't know unless NCSoft directly tells us. Which I don't think will happen.

Agreed on that.

Im guessing this may also freeze out the people using codes to get more VIP time.
I'm just bummed.

The Master Account page looks the same between my two accounts, with no subscription end date supplied for either. I don't know whether that means they'll both stay VIP to the end or what.

If I don't miraculously become VIP by tomorrow I'll be applying a GTC to my account and see if that works. Call it a $30 bet.
Well, if I had to GUESS why, I would say that the capability to 'flip a switch' and make everyone VIP does not currently exist. Therefore, someone at NCSoft (since they handle the billing) would have to do some coding for a game that they've wiped their hands of.
Just my guess.

The simplest reason is probably because it's more work than you guys think it is.
It might be easy to 'freeze' VIP status but there's probably no system in place for turning on VIP status en masse, it would probably involve individually turning on each account and since there's nothing but a skeleton crew working on the game to keep it functioning... well, it's not worth any of their time to do that.
Just a guess though.
edit: scooped! Curse you!
It's just as likely that VIP status is nothing more than a flag on the account in question that could be flipped on for all accounts by any database admin worth his salt.

In other words, the poor working stiff at NCsoft Austin that could change the account wouldn't get approval until sometime next year.

It IS accepting retail box codes that have not been applied to your account to become VIP.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Here is what to do if you want to get a favor for a dying game from a NCsoft executive: forget it. They are one of the most unpleasant races in the Galaxy. Not actually evil, but bad-tempered, bureaucratic, officious and callous. They wouldn't even lift a finger to save their own grandmothers from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal without orders signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters. The best way to get a drink out of a NCsoft executive is to stick your finger down his throat, and the best way to irritate him is to feed his grandmother to the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. On no account should you allow a NCsoft executive to sell you a game.

@Texarkana
@Thexder
It just has to be a retail box you've not applied before.
If I somehow got cut off from VIP before this (which totally sucks for you guys, btw) I'd have no way back in, because I'm pretty sure I've applied all of the different ones.
CoH, CoV, GvE, CoH CE, CoV CE, Architect Edition, GR CE
And I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I was wondering if someone from Paragon Studios might have some codes... Probably not though. That probably always involved legal, any time they'd award free time.
Anyway, I'm safely VIP, but I do hope others who are not eventually do get to be.
If not... please come back when the game is rescued!

Wishful thinking? Maybe... but I'd rather keep a slim ray of hope rather than the alternative dark depression.
I'm really puzzled and upset that VIP wasn't simply unleashed for everyone.
It costs NCSoft no money and might have soothed over some of the hurt feelings many long time COH users have over this situation.
I'm struggling to come up with an answer, so I'll ask, "Why?"
Why is this an issue? Why can't this be done? Who would make the decision to basically twist the knife a bit harder in the backs of people who may have lapsed, or never had the opportunity to play CoH without restrictions?
The game is ending. There's no reason not to open up VIP. Who's it going to hurt?
Granted, I'm in better shape than most, as I have enough time in to do anything other than Incarnate stuff. Still, it would have been awesome to kick around with my SG mates fully before the end comes. :-(
This entire situation has been messed up. I will think long and hard before NCSoft ever gets another dime from me in the future.
