It's a good game and deserves the sales. And Anet is a fantastic dev team and deserves the support despite their parent company - much like Paragon Studios.

I only hope Anet can buy out and get away from NCsoft.

Same, I'll actually play it then.

Still not interested. Don't care how good it is. Don't care if Arenanet are the nicest folks this side of our Dev team.

NCSoft does NOT get my money!

Ever.

If Arenanet breaks away from NCSoft and goes it on their own, I'll gladly support them. Until then? No. Not budging. Can't trust NCSoft.

Honestly, if Paragon Studios had another game coming out, I doubt CoH would have been cut (people seem to think they tried, but maybe something which didn't get picked up by NCsoft). There is more to the situation than meets the eye. CoH was profitable with a full studio behind it, but for how long? We just don't know. Even if CoH gets revived somehow, somewhere, I doubt they will return to full staff.

You shouldn't specifically trust any company, to be honest. That doesn't mean you shouldn't buy anything from any company, though. Eight years is a very good and long run for an MMO.

Right, but were they still working on it? I got the impression that it fell through awhile ago (or at least one did). That may have just been a rumor around the time BaBs was laid off.

There were three different 'secret projects'. The first was CoH2, but the higher ups in NC shot down the project (that may of happened before the Devs ever mentioned a secret project). The next I can't recall at all (it also folded, again can't recall why)... and the third was apparently a Unity-based game. There was an article posted on the boards recently about it, was fairly interesting... assuming any of it was actually true.

Do you have a source for the CoH2 project?

IT is this kind of thinking that keeps hate alive. Iranian government bad therefore Iranians are a bad people. The people that spent years of their lives developing GW2 had nothing to do with shutting down our little game yet you want them unemployed for some reason. And the funny thing is you are suppose to be a player of a superHERO game. Very honorable yuor thoughts are.

You've got the wrong end of the stick here.

Good for them, at least one American developer may survive within NC (not counting Wildstar until the game is produced, makes sales, and sustains itself).

If they have any interest in long term survival, however - they need to find a way to get out of NCSoft before bigger and better games inevitably surpass it, and drive down their numbers to the point where the brass stop smiling.

Or they can join every other American developer with a game under NCSoft, and Lineage II may possibly outlast them.

I might try the game myself, but I'm waiting for a NC followup and possible reparation to former COH customers who have paid into Freedom and long term subscriptions.

It's more like: Iran is a terrible place to visit, so I ain't going whether there's good people there or not.

Fun Fact:

My account got hacked and my game was bunk. They couldn't do anything to fix it so upon calling gamestop they talked to their higher ups for me and let me bring in my bunk game for a new copy. For free.

NCSoft got screwed out of 1 game.
I don't get my "next spirit" name but oh well. The other account had it.

Nope - how much you want to bet that Gamestop got screwed as they paid for two full copies and got to profit from only one?

I am sure Gamestop will make it up by selling a printed playergude or some such non-sense

PC games are a drop in Gamestop's pond anyway. They'll make it back easily with Random Popular Console Game as they sell copies of the game, buy them back for a pittance, and then sell them again for $5 off retail.

They usually just return it as defective merch. All NCsoft loses is perhaps 1 to 50c from the disk and box printing.

Add shipping and labor to Gamestop and NCSoft.

They usually have that covered as part of the distribution deals, and in the worse cases (bookstores do this a lot) they may just tell the store to destroy the copy since they cant do anything with it. There is certain level of trust (along with some ratios that cant be exceeded) between publishers and big chains like GameStop.

I do agree with this, especially since there's some employee speculation on the matter
Specifically, this is what concerns me:
Quote:
NDA: NCSoft is going to be insourcing more so than outsourcing. You can expect the full shutdown of all NCSoft Western-Run/European Run Offices with in the next two years.
This is a big worry for me. Not helped that since Guild Wars 2 is a game you can pretty much just pay for once, once the game sells maybe a certain million of copies, NCsoft can just pull the plug on Anet and run off with the cash.

On the otherhand though, given that Guild Wars 2 has gotten so many players behind it, it's possible NCsoft wouldn't dare take it down since that could easily be two million customers (and I assume including A LOT of asian customers too) they lose out on at least, if not more.

Makes sense - save on costs that way.
