Wait. HOW many possible character combinations?

Maybe I'll do it again before the end.
You heard it here first:

Arcanaville can shut down a power grid just by crunching numbers. Now that's a scary superpower.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

The customization in this game was so far ahead of it's time 8 years ago that no other game has caught up 'yet'. That's why i still play COX. Other games just don't have the individuality of this one.

.... and yet, with all those possibilities... I had to make a Brawl only Brute?

That must make me some sort of special kind of idiot, I would guess.

/That the game *let me do that*, and get him to 50 solo street sweeping, is testament, in my opinion, to the games veritable unique awesomeness.
//Yeah, I love talkin' about him. He's my absolute favorite, and no I WONT shut up, make me.

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

Well said. This deserves to be repeated!

Hear hear. I still can't play the "mainstream" MMOs and their 'force everyone to play the same character' ways.

What about Huntsman?

1 (10 trecedillion (10^42) costumes)
I did that long ago as well. Here's a way to not even come close to putting that in perspective.

Print 5 costumes per sheet of paper.
One sheet is about 0.0025 inches thick. Or 400 pages per inch (2000 costumes per inch.)
That gives you 5^39 inches of paper. Or-
4.17^38 Feet Or-
7.89^34 Or-
1.34 ^22 Light Years Or-
From here to the visible edge of the universe (42 billion LY away) 319,000,000,000 times.

More or less.

My first short story (detective fiction) came out in Jan-2012. Other stories and books to follow, I hope. Because of "real writing". COH was a big part of that happening.

So basically, what everyone is saying is that, based off the rough numbers listed in this thread.. costume combinationss x primary/secondary combinations x powerset combinations each character is 1 in 1,511,583,785,054,616,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000?

Barring of course, accurate Arcanaville math.

Edit: And of course it should be multiplied by 3 for the different genders(?) and if we assume 1-100 for the sliders, it'd be 4.698631734685421662262508644835e+143? Oh man I'm confused and I don't even know how to write this out, etc. I'm going to get some coffee!

And, despite that mindboggling number of options, I still managed to end up on a team with a Batman clone about once a month.

If we multiply the 4.698631734685421662262508644835e+143 I got in the edit with the sliders by the 70 possible skintones and the 160 colors and 2 for the two colors, even though it isn't the right way to do the math, we get 1.052493508569534452346801936443e+148.

..And I'm done with this whole "math" thing. There're well over a googol of combinations and that's mind boggling. No. Mind bottling.

You're still my hero for accomplishing that feat.

Fractals pretty.

Also, when Arcanaville sneezes, it looks like the Mandelbrot set.

Is that taking into account that each piece could be colored differently? (I rarely have costumes that only use 2 colors for the full thing, generally I use 3 or 4 total)?

While it is certainly true that playing "every" powerset combo to 50, in the sense of every primary/secondary combo, with every pool power mix, patrons, incarnates, APPs etc. would certainly verge on impossible, especially without PL assistance, it is definitely possible to play every primary and every secondary powerset (including epic ATs) to 50.

Altoholic Monkey of the Repeat Offenders issued a challenge to do just that (Alty's Ultimate Power Challenge) on January 1, 2011. Thus far (and likely ever more if the game ends), I'm the only one in RO to have completed the challenge (on August 25, 2011). I then re-completed it every time a new powerset came out, and I've had a blast doing it.

At the moment my total number of primary/secondaries comes to 97, represented by 68 lvl 50s, all leveled without PL'ing.

My Thugs/Nature Affinity MM is lvl 48 right now... which very sadly is the last one left to complete.

I've been in shock since the announcement came down. I was really looking forward to the new sets. Some alts I've liked more (my DM/Shield brute, my permaHasten permaPA Ill/TA... awesome!), and some less (Energy/Elec blaster, Inv/KM tanker... meh), but it somehow never occurred to me that there would ever come a time when no additional sets would be coming.

68 Level 50s, all made the old-fashioned way.
Original: Quasar Lad - Fire/Kin troller. Latest: Asp Kicker - Grav/Poison troller.
Completed the "Full Alty Challenge" - level 50 in every archetype, and "Alty's Ultimate Power Challenge" - level 50 in every available powerset in the game.
