"Why Not": A Costume Option Thread

I offen get to a point when designing a costume within CoX that I wonder: "why isn't this an option?"

That is the purpose of this thread. I know, this seems like a selfindulgent excercise (it is on the surface ), but I hope to bring forward an honest serving of "yeah, why not?" when it comes to the costume creator. I have always been a believer in "showing" rather than "telling", so another goal of this thread is VISUAL REPRESENTATIONS of the things I will be wanting/discussing.
To facilitate these "visual representations" I will use a dummy toon... TESTbot_01

TESTbot_01 will be modeling through use of Photoshop. Fear not, when the time comes for an alternate BODY being required... TESTbot_01 has a sister and huge big brother.

Shall we get started...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First up: something simple... Shoulder pieces.

Here TESTbot_01 is showcasing three(3) variations of exsisting shoulder options that I have offen wondered "why not?"

Double Large Skull - Reverse Gladiator - The Romulus Lite

This idea can be applied to other shoulder options (no doubt if these can be accomplished), so I refrained from including every shoulder option. I did choose to limit my examples to "legacy" or "non costume pack" costume pieces.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next up: Robotic Arm options!

Why are we limited to merely "robotic" options. Recently the Fire & Ice veteran costumes added a handy selection of elemental full right arm options. Why stop there? I propose this...

Here TESTbot_01 is showing a "Metallic" arm option (something I would give my arm for).

But why stop there? This idea can translate to other currently available costume options. Here are a few:
Organic Armor Heavy - Organic Armor - Tecnobot - Armor Plate

That's my first smattering of "Why Nots". As I compile more I shall update.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Why not more detail options for the Full Helmet?.. like these maybe?

-Or these

Why not give the female the Alien head full helmet?

**There maybe some retread in regards to what I offer here as to what might be lurking in the massive costume suggestion thread(s), that I appologize for.**

I have always thought that any and every new texture that wasn't just "clothes" should be added to the robotic arm options when added to the game.

yep, call them alternate arms rather than robotic and throw in monstrous and more (or less) muscular options to all body types. it has been requested several times and i have signed each time. not sure if there would be any issue with joining them, my memory is hazy but if i recall, all robotic arms have a kind of attachment circle that might not be doable with organic arms...but it would make a lot of requests a lot easier, especially the ever present one for more muscular women.

how do those metallic arms look from the back?

Always wondered why you cant make a person with a pot belly, or a person with a haunched over appearance, or and older person with the body to match. Trying to create an older person hero/villain concept and it's just merely a 60-80 yeard old head on top of a twenty year old body.

Yes, the "collar" is there for all the "robotic" arms... including the Fire & Ice variants (they have just been hidden better). I used the "tech" robotic arm collar for the above examples. As far as how the metallic arms look from the back, well, like the metallic arms in the Tech robotic arms collar... I guess...

1. We already have 1 set of asymmetrical robotic arms. I've often wondered
"Why not have assymetrical options for everything"? Costume pieces, patterns, colors, etc.

2. They've introduced new costume pieces where you can set a "Glowing" option. Example: The new retro spaceman belt has a glowing star option.
Why not spread this out to legacy costume pieces. And why not allow us to set secondary colors to glow, instead of narrowing it down to specific costume pieces?

3. I agree with the post above - we need more body options. Fat, hunched over, scrawny, etc. I've always wanted to create a Troll/Ogre type character - just not feasible unless you have a hunched over option, with extra long arms almost to the ground.

I've always wondered a step further - and probably too far in terms of what is possible currently - that the clothes/skin options are clumped together.

I want to be able to pick skin color(s), and then apply a skin texture - bio, organic, scales, etc., and then put a shirt or tights over that. So, what we can do now with jackets/robes (robe over a Chest choice of scales, for instance) could be done with all Chest choices - Tights, etc.

Any changes to the physique of the character model (the base Male, Female, Huge rig) will require a different rig and tweaking of all existing costume pieces to conform to those new player rigs. Exception (possible exception) would be a "hunchback-esq" character. That could be accomplished with a "stance" or series of "stances" similar to how Cryptic's other super hero MMO did stances. Making a "potbelly" or super blobby (fat) character requires new rigs, something the devs have poo-poo'd.

@Chyll, what you suggest is similar to how Cryptic did multi layered costuming in their other Super Hero MMO. basically you could do almost exactly what you describe. With CoX, that's just not workable... the character creation and possible game code itself would have to be rewritten from ground up.

With this thread I am trying to show examples of costume options that "could be" with the existing character rigs, patterns, bits, and observations on how the devs are themselves using these assets. Pondering the "why not" is my way of litterally asking an open field question towards: the devs, players, and myself. Thought exercise as it is really.

What has always driven me nuts and made me ask why, the really limited color palette. Let me play with RGB values to my heart's content.

Because if they gave us that it would be easier to make naked characters.

SO MUCH THE ORIGINAL POST. SO MUCH. AKA: /signed on everything mentioned.

Also, if we're going to go so far as 'alternate arm' instead of robotic, why not tights, too?

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Get all of my YES.

Believe it or not, I have a character idea in mind without arms that I would make in a second (I'm weird).

Yeah, I figured, which is why I mentioned it was probably outside the scope of discussion... but I can dream...
