Getting into Summer Blockbuster

So, to date, I have gotten into zero Summer Blockbuster events, period.

I queue up for it in the LFG queue, it says "avg wait 5 min," and that's that -- nothing else happens.

ONE TIME It said it was starting, and then immediately "failed" without any indication of why.

Are not people running this, or am I doing something wrong? I have been trying on a fairly populated server (Guardian) at different times.

Never ever listen to the average wait time.

If you're not getting in via jumping into the queue, then just pre-form. It only takes 3. Or announce in LFG you're queued, usually prompts more folks to jump in

Don't know how to start it other than queueing - nothing I've seen says anything other then to use LFG.

The only way to start it is to queue. But if you put together a team of four people (pre-form) and then queue, the event will start, because you'll have a team of the appropriate size ready to go.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

Form a team first, then queue. If you just jump into the queue by yourself, it'll wait until 3 other people join the queue (or it'll timeout, as it did for you). Since nobody does the event without pre-forming, you're sitting in the queue all by yourself.

That..is not true at all Gob. I have done about 40 runs..without preforming. Sure preforming helps, but its silly to claim NO one q's.

My statement remains true for large values of "no one" and I defy you to prove that it isn't.

More seriously...let me guess, you're on Virtue or Freedom?

Virtue definitely has no problems using the LFG to jump in without pre-forming. Victory... has been a bit hit or miss, without some prodding via channels anyhow.

My experience, at least on Pinnacle, is that the LFG queue is not currently being used as intended 99% of the time (not just for this particular event), and I suspect this is the case on most of the smaller servers.

Oh I am on virt and free. lol. And in your comment there..it IS clear you are saying 'no one' as a joke, not seriously. Just in your first comment Gob, it came across as you talking about a fact.

It wasn't a joke, it was an exaggeration for effect. Kind of like saying "Everybody eats at McDonald's". Nobody believes that such a statement is intended as a literal fact.

Also, thank you for proving my point. Joining the queue may be all well and good on the two biggest servers in the game, but on smaller servers, pre-forming is SOP. You might get lucky with just queuing in, but the odds are heavily stacked against you.

I have joined only one or two preformed Blockbuster events on Guardian. The rest of my 2 dozen runs have been via the LFG tab. This is on Guardian. And I often team with people I know from globals. The LFG tab is sorely underused, and I make sure to tell people I'm in queue (and no, not even in the LFG or Help channels) and have ZERO problems joining. But it does take more than the supposed 5 minutes. Since the changes, however, I happily go and run missions until the event starts.

Well sure, if you tell people you're in there, but that's not really much different from pre-forming. The point of the LFG queue is that you're supposed to be able to just hop in without any preamble, and that's just not how most people are using it.

You do raise an excellent point though, you're not forced to just hang out until you get into an event.

Yes, my experience on Virtue is that I can queue for the event almost immediately.

On Virtue, anyway.

But people in the global channels I'm in are keen on badges, so there have been a lot of "badge runs" formed mostly in Dark Astoria too. I like joining those because things always go like clockwork.

If the UI says five minutes, it's has no data, basically. So it won't be just five minutes.

If it's listing 1 minute, you will probably enter right away.

For a while, a lot of players were pushing to get "Average Wait Time" changed to "Number in Queue", or even getting both listed.

Personally, I would find "Number in Queue: 2" far more useful than "Average Wait Time: 5 minutes (Based on 2 solo players who have been queued for the last 8 hours and 1600 players that preformed and started a second after they entered the queue)".

I could get behind this idea.

I could too. My wait in the queue wasn't that long before I got picked up, but that was, again, on Virtue. It'd be nice to see how many are in the queue so you can get an idea of how long it might be.

Curiously enough, on a pre-formed group on Triumph last night: One person on my team DC'd during the acceptance dialogue, the turnstyle didn't allow us to start as we were "one member short", then instantly re-queued with a pick-up player. The DC'd person was willing to wait until we finished that run so we ran with the random person.

You used the word "nobody" so we only need to show one exception to prove your statement false.
I play on Infinity and have used the LFG to get in the Summer event.

Right, except for large values of "nobody".

Just chipping in my $.04...

I've been running it every day on Guardian, on two different characters (papa wants
his shinies ). I've even teamed with a person or two in this thread (purely
coincidentally).

I typically use the LFG queue, and then wander off to do the daily DA mish, tips,
SSA's, whatever in the meanwhile. I've yet to "pre-form" a full team for it.

On only a single occasion has it not worked for me (took more than an hour, at which
point I decided to do other things). Every other time, I got into the event (although
there are occasional "failed queue" or "player declined" cases that just recycle
you back into the queue for another try)...

The one thing to note about LFG - those listed times are 100%, certifiably, completely
worthless, and I wish they'd either make the &^^%$# things useful, or yank the
time displays altogether. For me, they're just plain misleading and irritating.

That said, I've had the event pop up anywhere from instantly as soon as I queued it
to 15 mins or so after the fact, and everything in-between.

So, while I'm not an LFG fan, per se, it does seem to be working (for some definition
of "working") ... even on a mid-volume server like Guardian... YMMV.
