Is It Worth It?

Well Im not sure if Vip is worth getting so I was wondering if I could try it out first before I decide to subscribe or not so is there anyway I could try Vip first
for like a month.
I heard you could just refer someone and get a month of vip gametime but I don`t know anyone I can refer so is there anyone here going Vip that I can refer if its ok just to try out vip first because I have already reached level 50 on a few toons in Freedom but now Im curious to try some incarnate trials.

If there is any other way of trying vip first all help would be appreciated.

Also if you are turning Vip if I could refer you I think you get 500 extra paragon points or something?

The whole game is now free however subscribing does unlock certain content that isn't available in the real money store (Paragon Market where you can buy content with Paragon Points).

The basic F2P gives you two character slots, access to 8 of the 14 "classes" (called archetypes here) and the vast majority of power sets and costume items. There are limits on chat and how much "money" (called Influence/Infamy here) a F2P can have.

The game's player maintained Wiki, ParagonWiki is an excellent reference.

Also keep an eye out for the VIP Starter Kit. It goes on sale every so often for less than $5 (often $1-$2). The downside is that it can't be applied to an existing VIP or Premium (any money spent) account.

On the other hand, while they still last, copies of Going Rogue can be purchased cheaply from Amazon and applied to an existing free account for 1 month of VIP access plus goodies.

Right, there's no "trial" any more, the whole game is free, levels 1 through 50, and you can play as long as you want.

If you do like it and stay, you'll probably want to get some goodies from the store. Anything you buy is permanent (well, except things that are obviously consumable or say "one time" on them), so you can keep what you get and still play for free.

VIP is a good deal, if you do stick around, but if you'd rather just play with a few unlocks from the store, there's quite a few folks who do the same thing.

In other words what everybody is saying is: The only way to be VIP is to fully subscribe. You can subscribe for a single month only, but the only way to get it cheaper than $15 is if it ever goes on sale, or you purchase multiple months of membership at a single time where the more months you buy, the cheaper each month costs. And as pointed out, the VIP starter kit is to upgrade new free accounts to VIP membership for 1 month. It can't be added to a premium or already VIP account, in other words any account that has purchased at least a minimum $5 in paragon points, or has been subscribed to previously, does not qualify as a new account.

Only VIPs can send out referral codes.

And the free time from the referral codes requires you to subscribe first.

And they do have sales. Usually around Christmas time, the starter kit will be on sale for 99 cents. So if you are thinking of trying VIP and want to save money, there's a cheap way to join as VIP and see what it does for you.

Old box copies that game with a month of game time are still worth that month of game time, and can be found for very cheap. Many come with additional, permanent goodies as well.

Note that you have to make sure it's a new, unopened box copy. Used box copies are worthless, but are sometimes still sold.

Sometimes I see used copies advertised as being "only used once" and wonder if the seller is a complete idiot or a devious <bleep> playing on the gullibity of inexperienced customers.

My guess is it's the latter. The seller is hoping that if a customer sees "used only once" they won't realize the code has been used and the disc is only useful as a coffee coaster.

However if you can find unopened and new boxes for $5 or so, those are a very good deal and will add a month of game time each. Note you can use each type of box once, so once you buy the Going Rogue edition, for example, you can't buy another and get another month, because you've already used a code for that particular product.

You can also try Big Lots, I found copies of the game in there before for either about $5.
