Can the Terra Volta trials be upgraded please?

The Terra Volta trials are so frequently the WST, but I just can't will myself to do them any longer. It's extremely dated and needs to have some sort of update to bring it up to the standard of the rest of the trials and TFs in the game.

My biggest issue is the fact that you're stuck waiting... and waiting... and waiting for another wave to come. A few ways to rectify this is to add a little box that tells you how many more waves you have and give a countdown for the next wave. Doing this allows your team to at least prepare for the next wave, and it lets you keep track of how much longer you have with the wave numbers.

The second issue is obviously that you have so long to wait for these waves. Just shorten them. I don't think anyone will mind. It would cut down the time needed to beat it by a lot.

Aside from that, I don't have too many problems with the trial itself. The rest of it is fine. However, the waiting in this trial seems completely unbearable to me. Fixing that in some way would make this trial much better, in my opinion.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

i agree....it is boring
it needs a reworking
(i always get one skyraider tping outta the reactor and holding up completion)
but
i think the waves were spread out due to complaints
this is going wayyyy back however

I agree, the question is how to change it? The simplest solution is to either speed up the waves or have the next wave come a set time after the previous wave is cleared. The problem there is that is a respec trial and one that has a failure mechanism. Since it is a respec trial it needs to be possible to complete it with a very suboptimally built team and the problem with speeding the waves up is that if a team is having trouble faster waves might overwhelm them and the trial has a failure mechanism.

Now the Thorn trial is harder but since it doesn't have a failure mechanism a poor team can at least take several attempts. Personally I'd advocate the same option for the TV trial. Have a couple of small waves when you enter the chamber followed by a relatively easy AV. Short and sweet.

Or just add a terminal that can be clicked to instantly trigger the next wave.

The thing that made the reactor room so challenging in the old days was that the waves kept coming whether you were ready for them or not. You'd still be battling the last wave's bosses around the reactor core when a whole new wave arrived. Now the biggest risk is that people won't come back from AFK in time for the next wave.

My suggestion would be to have the defeat of one wave spawn the next one. The waves would not stack with each other, so the party of free players who are doing it for the respecs will not get swamped. The party of Incarnates who are doing it for Notice of the Well can fast-forward through the snooze-inducing gaps.

I like this suggestion personally.

The only issue with the terminal is that it doesn't really "make sense" given the story of the trial.

Like, why would the heroes use a terminal to summon up the villains to come attack?

Could be a way to fortify the reactor software; the villains catch on to it and try to double the effort to stop them.

With the new Penny Yin TF basically talking the respec storyline and expanding on it, that could mean that a totally new respec Trial could be made.

A different idea - leave it as it is.
Simply stop making it the weekly tf.

Given the frequency they've been popping up, that's pretty doubtful.

I'd rather see a revamp. The finale is just... bad, absolute tedium.

At worst, I'd just say shave the time between waves.

Agreed it should be changed. First, it's boring. Second, the old argument of "it's the only way to get this incredibly rare and powerful reward, the respec" just doesn't hold any more. So what to do?

#1 - Dump much of the current story. Stage one is take back the control rooms, free hostages, click glowie in the control rooms. Fight down the corridor, and face an AV in the reactor room. Defeat the AV to win. If it's considered necessary to gimmick it up, add glowies in reactor room that must be periodically clicked to avoid empowering the AV, but I'd argue against it. No radiation damage, no red bubbles, no healing powers to claim. Kill him.

#2. Dump, or at least completely rework, Terra Volta. Damnit, some rookie heroes failed to stop the reactor from going up. Fortunately, the damage was able to be contained. So create three new trials involving the new reactor. Trial one is setting the stage for the rebuild, there's some important gear in the destroyed reactor that must be gotten before the sky raiders get it - find the macguffin before they do! Trial two is protect the workers who are building the new reactor from the attacks of the Freakshow who think the must leet uber base would be a destroyed reactor with all that good gear for the taking. Trial three is the reactor is about to be brought online, but there's a problem - Malta has kidnapped the lead scientist and They Have Plans. (The Rikti have a full zone to themselves, let's show the crazed fascists some love.)

Or dump Terra Volta altogether, and build the respecs around the DE which certain have a storyline about characters changing.

Terra Volta explodes. Problem solved.

(Make it available through ouroboros.)

I really should do something about this signature.

You used to be able to get overwhelmed if you didn't take down the enemies fast enough. Now, though, it takes about a full half-hour from the start of the Reactor fight to the end because the enemy spawns have been so widely spaced out.

The what now?

Oh, right, one of the old, boring things that I never play on account of the high levels of old-school variety Dull and Suck. Yes, hmm.

Wonder when the Devs will realise that you need Revamp as well, especially these days...

I agree that the reactor respecs can get tedious at the end.

My suggestion would be to make the doors in the reactor room work like the doors during the Halloween event. Have players click on the doors to trigger the critters to come out. Then the team can choose to camp one door, each go to a door, take them one at a time, or trigger them all at once. This allows the team to dictate the pace. And a lone player will not be able to ruin it for a team that wants to go slow as that lone player will have to wait a bit before triggering another spawn on his own.

If the average completion times get too good then go ahead and reduce the merits awarded to an appropriate amount.

What they should do is use the new temporary power bar to give all of the heroes carnival mallets. The villains would begin their assault by poking their heads out of the eight doors and it would be up to the heroes to quickly bonk them into submission. This would continue until the heroes had exhausted their allowance or won the teddy bear.

I support reducing the time between waves.
