More Character SLots Please!

I typically delete characters for one of two reasons:

  1. To "refine" a concept -- usually that means making the same character again, but with a different AT or powerset.
  2. To make room because I'm out of slots. This one always makes me sad. But this suggestion would help that.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

I've been using my free server transfers to make room before I consider deleting. I first check to see where the name is available then move the character there.

Same here. Even if I haven't been able to bring myself to play the character for quite some time, I'll be loath to delete it for the sake of concept alone.

I hear that. I have an empathy/energy called London Rain. With a name like that, I KNOW she should be Empathy/Water. But... level 30. *Not* in a hurry to re-level an emp any time soon, considering I mostly solo.

As to the more slots thing, I'm all for it. If they're going to want a market option for it (cause why wouldn't they if they could?) they could charge $20 (1600pp) to make a new page of slots available, and it could come with two slots unlocked as a bonus. Character slots themselves go for, what is it, $20 to unlock 5? Two of those bundles plus the two slots that come with the page makes up the 12 slots the page can hold... that's $60 each they just got from a lot of people. I'd call that a good deal. They could even do what they're doing with the enhancement trays and offer one each year.

Personally I'd prefer it if they would just remove the cap altogether and allow us to buy as many as we'd like.

Honestly, so would I.

On the flip side, they'd probably have to make some drastic changes to the character list interface if they did (so it'd simply autospawn a new "page" once the previous one was filled).

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I agree that the addition of more Character Slots per server is long overdue. With so many new Power Sets coming out and so many possible combinations of said Sets and character designs it is pretty easy for long time players (heck, even short time players) to use up the 48 slots they have now (if they even have that many available).

For me, I have absolutely no interest in starting new characters on another server or moving any of my current ones to another server if I run out on my home server. I would rather play on my home server with my online friends instead of another server were I don't know anyone. Running out of Character Slots on my home server means for me an end to the game, as far as creating new characters are concerned. So if the Devs made more Character Slots per server available, yes, I would purchase them (given they stay at the same price they are currently).

I sincerely hope the Devs will consider this suggestion, and impliment it soon. Lots of great new Power Sets out there, but right now, only so many Character Slots available to make new characters!

So what's stopping you from taking that core of friends and creating "Chapter Two" on another server? It doesn't take long to get a SG base underway and get prestige going. You get to start playing with a base again as a blank slate, trying a whole new design without losing your old. (And with some of the temp powers out there, you'll probably earn prestige faster.)

That makes a lot of assumptions, Bill.

It assumes that the friends are all part of a tight-knit core group that do everything together.
It assumes the friends are all interested in starting new characters at the same time.
It assumes they're all running out of character slots at the same time, or willing to pick up and move because one of them is.

I tend to find it easy to suggest "Hey, lets start something new over here" for people I refer to *as* friends. Then again, mine (who really do form a fairly tight-knit group) will throw out "what the heck, why not" new theme/superteam suggestions themselves and pick a server.

Besides, you're not "picking up and moving." You're expanding. You swap back and forth. Not doing a mass transfer and abandonment.

Even *without* that group, you can start a theme team and set time to play. "Superteams" aren't exactly a new idea. Announce it, say which server, announce on that server with details, start having fun with a whole server's worth of new slots.

Okay.
Not trying to be a smart alec or say they shouldn't add anymore, but this is sort of the way I see it. 48 is a MASSIVE number of slots. Heck, 36 for premium is too. I can't recall a single other MMO where you could get anywhere near that on a single server. Surely, somewhere in those dozens and dozens of toons, you have one or two that aren't seeing any use, and can be safely deleted?

Nope.

Having played several other MMOs... well, if we had our character possibilities in other MMOs, other MMOs would split out quite a few of these as separate classes, I'm sure.

Most seem to have their "healer," their "Tank," their "DPS," maybe their "Buffer/debuffer." And once you've played one, you've played them all.

Meanwhile, my Ice/Emp plays far different from my Fire/Kin from an Ill/Sonic from....

To quote Bill, "Nope."

Without considering the Epic Archetypes, and only using the Primary and Secondary to determine possible combinations, we have the ability to create over 1,000 different characters on each server.

add in the power pools, patron pools, ancillary pools, not to mention the various purchasable inherent powers, and we'd need Arcanaville to get te exact number of current unique character builds we can make.

48 slots doesn't even scratch the surface of the number of character slots we need per server.

Even using all 16 servers we currently only make a dent in what we need.

I think 48 is enough, never thought I would said that... But there not enough outfits to use I used them all. But all the ones I have to buy anyways.

But I am not going so no to more slots, so how about they give us one slot per level 50?

Not sure why you think costumes have anything to do with the OP's suggestion so I'll refer you back to your first mistake.

As I stated, I have absolutely no interest in starting over on a new server, much less trying to convince my online friends to move to another server as well to start rebuilding an SG and Base from scratch when we already spent years doing so on our home server.

By increasing the amount of Character Slots available on each server (up to 60 or 72), the Devs could help insure that players could continue to create new character concepts on their home servers with their core server community, which would add longevity to the game for those players.

Currently, I have 2 open slots remaining on Champion.

With the release of water blast, I made 2 new characters, even deleting one that I wasn't going to use. I would like to have more than 2 slots for bio armor and nature affinity when they are released as making only 1 character of each will be greatly limiting to me.

That's why I made this thread and I am glad to see I am not alone in alt-itis.

slightly off-topic:

I am usually at work for the coffee talks, but so far I haven't seen this brought up in the Q&A sessions on the replays.

Can/will anyone ask the question to the devs about more slots?

Thanks,
Dementus

I (obviously) see it differently - all the different things to do on different servers with different people, for me, is part of what keeps the game interesting. It's not just another way of having more slots, for me (and my 300-some alts...)

But again, I'm not against more slots. Mostly encouraging people to branch out a bit - it's not as bad as you think!

More outfits mean there more of a reason to have more slots. I got 11 severs full, which is 132 guys, I have a little more then that. I think there is 5 EU severs for us to use now, so we have enough slots to me =D

Yeah, I am staying for now. It kinda boring, nothing to really do at all.At least all the cool stuff is free if I want to do them. I think they should just remake the game, make it awesome.

Hmm, how to explain this . . . First I suffer from the same problem to a degree. The problem is where you stop thinking. Like you I get tunnel vision myself and forget to widen my focus to consider the broad picture.

Just like to point out that with the hundreds of costume pieces available theres literally thousands of cotume variations so it's literally impossible for anyone to have used them all even if they unlocked all the character costume slots.

I also hope to see them eventually release a new version of the game to continue when this game gets too old.

More slots. I make and play a lot of characters, each with their own concepts, backstory, blah blah blah. I have rerolled a few for the new sets and proliferations, but I'm out of space. On the plus side I'm leveling all my characters on Pinn, on the downside the Character Creator is my addiction. I can make plenty of costumes, but no more characters without deleting/transferring.

More slots.

They are supposed to be announcing another power set with todays coffee talk.

Can someone please ask if they are planning to add more character slots per server?
If I didn't have to be at work I would ask myself...but the bills got to be paid

Thanks
