long time player going premium: what do I keep?

Been playing for a while (My Tier 8 slots are all full) but going Premium for while or forever, not sure. I don't play enough to keep my subscription.

I'm trying to figure out what I keep and what I lose by going Premium.

* I know I collected extra character slots over the years, either through direct purchase or by applying extensions pack (for example I'm pretty sure I got 2 slots when I got Going Rogue). I currently have 32 character slots on Justice,as opposed to 12 everywhere else. Does that mean I purchased 20 extra slots, so I will have 22 as premium? I will get to chose which 22(?) characters to unlock out of my 32 when I first log in as premium right?

* I'm pretty sure I keep power sets I purchased (like Beam Rifled or Beast Mastery), but I lose the sets that were free for VIP (like Dark control)?
If I care enough about unlocking my dark controller, will it prompt me to purchase the power set first with my unspent points? or do I keep the character with that powerset if it exists before my account goes premium?

* along the same lines anything I bought with my VIP paragon points, like Secondary Mutation or the animal costume pack remain mine since I "paid" for them.

* I had Kheldians and SoAs unlocked years ago, so I think they'll remain unlocked on my premium account?

* Because I'm Tier 8, I will still have access to inventions, the market, masterminds and controllers and other goodies unlocked by higher Tiers

* (edit) I also get to keep all unclaimed mail items, whether character or account, right?

what I lose:

* can't access my own SG base because I'm in an SG with my kids and none of us will be VIP and able to pay rent. I could invite a VIP friend to join, even temporarily to pay the rent for me right? (what a pain)

* lose all incarnate missions (iTrials...) and access to DA? any existing incarnate powers will be disabled (but not lost should I ever go back to premium?)

Does that more or less sum it up?

I came back and played premium for a while after a hiatus, at tier 9, and the main thing I missed were server slots. I guess you can't do incarnate stuff either, but that's not a big selling point for me so I didn't even notice.

But....all those locked characters were driving me NUTS.

For VIP powersets the character will remain locked and unplayable until you purchase the power set but there is no risk of them being deleted.

Similarly if you have any characters with VIP costume parts they will keep their costume but you will have to remove any VIP parts or purchase them separately. This doesn't apply to the Tier 9 VIP costumes which you have effectively paid for but does apply to things like Chainmail or Imperial Defense.

No. While EATs have to be unlocked in game by getting a character to level 20 they also need to be unlocked for an account either by becoming a VIP or purchasing them specifically in the market.

All of these are correct.

can anyone confirm that since I have 32 slots on Justice, I must have purchased 20 over the years and will get 22 slots as premium? I can probably live with that...

If you purchased them than they are staying with you. Though IIRC you need to reopen them one by one.

Probably a combination of purchasing and free slots from annual rewards (you got a free server slot each year of paid time as a reward, you likely applied them on Justice and rightly so).

That number sounds right, but you will need to use an unlock on them.

I've heard reports that people were able to keep access to their EAT's and VEAT's without purchasing them from the Paragon Market, but it was stated to likely be a bug so you may or may not have access to those.

As for the bases, you'll still be able to access them and use anything in them, but you will need to get a VIP to join (even if only temporarily when rent is due) to pay rent. You have enough friends on Justice I'm sure one of them won't mind joining temporarily to pay rent for you.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I only have Premium accounts (in addition to my VIP account) with very little in the way of Vet time, but to the best of my knowledge here are your answers...

That should be correct. Here is the Knowledge Base article on slots.

Yes.

Characters using unavailable ATs or Powersets will be locked. When you click on the locked character it will tell you all the reasons why it is locked, but I don't think it will take you to the Paragon Market. It may, I've never tried. The prompt on the one character I have to test that tells me "You will still need to purchase additional items after committing a global server slot."

Yes.

No. As Adeon stated; you need to purchase those, unfortunately.

Yes.

You should, though once claiming them you may find that you can't use them if they're Incarnate items.

I believe that's correct. I have some characters on Justice and all the SGs I was in on that server are dead, so I may be able to help you out there, but Justice is my 3rd server so you'd probably be better off finding a local friend.

Quote:

You can still get into DA, you just can't enter the missions there (or Incarnate missions anywhere) and won't earn Incarnate rewards on the street. I think you do still get normal rewards if street sweeping with a team, but I haven't tried it out and I believe you would count towards team size for calculating all rewards, and therefore reduce the Incarnate XP earned by the rest of the team. Other than that trivial caveat I believe you are correct.

You will lose access to the Signature Story Arcs unless you purchase them. Other than that I think you covered it.

You'll also lose in-game support, although you can still get support through the support website https://support.cityofheroes.com

You'll also lose access to First Ward missions and the SSA's unless you purchase them. I'm not sure if you lose access to the Night Ward contacts, I know some are available to all.

Since you purchased Going Rogue you'll keep access to the Alignment system and the ability to create Praetorians.

You'll lose posting access to several sections of the forums and lose all access to the Test and Beta servers and Beta forums.

You'll lose access to PM's on the forums, your avatar and signature.

You'll lose access to the Justice Server forums and will not be able to comment there on any Rangle Plots™.

I can't confirm, but I think if you have 32 slots you will have 20 slots to spend, not 22. See, if you already spent your global slots that you got, you don't get new ones. You spent the slots on a server, now they stay on that server.

If you have unspent slots, sure, they stay global. But if you've spent them already then you don't get them back as global. I think.

The "two global slots" thing is only for RETURNING players, who haven't assigned any slots yet.

No, as a premium he'll get the base two slots plus any purchased, received due to purchase of box sets, or years of subscribing. So that 22 sounds correct.

OK, yes if he's never been premium, ever, I guess that makes sense.

<yoda> Hmm, confusing, this is. </yoda>

With bases - it's not that bad, since you really only need to pay rent every 6 weeks or so, IIRC.

And for costumes - any "VIP Content" costumes will simply be unavailable should you go to the tailor.

Ok from personal experience going from VIP to premium, I can speak with authority here. You have spent 20 slots on Justice. When you go premium you will have 20 slots for Justice only. The 2 globals confused me too, but I found out the reality. If you have no unused global slots and Justice is the only server you spent slots on, then that is the only server you will be playing on as you have described it. Sorry for the bad news, but at least you will know what to expect. Anyone with further questions is invited to check my post history.

It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.

Yes, but you're high enough in Paragon rewards to get them as a Premium.

What you get to keep when going from VIP to Premium

There's some weirdness with EAT unlocking, actually.

I unlocked HEATs and VEATs long before Freedom came out, let my subscription lapse (due to Lack Of Job), and found they were both still playable on my then-Premium account when Freedom launched. They were (and still are) even listed in /mypurchases.

Maybe they'll lock again if my subscription lapses again, but I couldn't test that even if I wanted to for at least two months.

VEATS and HEATS are like a Tier 7 unlock. Controllers and Masterminds are Tier 5.

Posted

H/VEAT don't have a Paragon Rewards unlock.

If you unlocked H/VEAT before Freedom, chances are pretty good you will have access to them, and keep access to them forever. I think this started out as a bug and has been shifted instead to working as intended because they don't care enough to revoke all of the unlocks due to level 20 hero/villains because who knows what that would break?

Weird, I was sure there was a VEAT/HEAT unlock.

There is a purchase in the market for EACH of the EAT and VEAT types for 1000 PP each.

Separate unlock purchases for Peacebringers, Warshades, Soldier of Arachnos and Arachnos Widow. So, if you want all 4 it would be 4000 PP.

But as I said earlier and Aggelakis and Thunder Knight confirmed they seem to be unlocked for Premiums that unlocked them prior to Freedom's launch.
