Am I poor now?
About two and a half years ago I hit the 2b mark . As it happens, I quit playing about a week after creating that thread. Well I'm back now, and only slightly worse for the wear after the minor heart attack from seeing a row of "bid canceled"'s at wentworths.
So what's changed? Has inflation totally destroyed my buying power and rendered me a pauper? Is 3 billion chump change now ? |
Yes, there are some players who can buy and sell you scores of times over. So what? Just play the game, use the market and the Inf comes.
No huge deal.
Hard to say, things have gone up and down quite a bit since then. Overall I think prices have dropped since then. More merits (and new merit types) along with enhancement converters have helped even out the supply of items and drop the prices on the really high end stuff. Something have gone up in price (mostly due to converters) but they tended to be the less desirable stuff.
For example the popular Purple sets (mostly damage ones) hit about 500million per enhancement at the high end but have since dropped to about 200million while the less popular mez ones which were going for less than 100million are now up to 200million.
The very, very high end stuff has gone up, then come down, since then. I think.
There are a few new ways to make inf; the old ways still work perfectly well.
What I think I'm trying to say is, if you feel like you need more inf, you can make it fairly easily.
Welcome back.

My impression is that in CoH, the basic monetary unit is the inf cap.
That said, you don't really need that much. I just spent a bunch of idle time IOing out a mid-level brute to improve performance a bit (and free up a slot by improving bonuses in other ways), and my net expenditure appears to be about negative two hundred million.
As long as you have friends, you will never be poor...
unless theyre all poor too I suppose.

You can make at least 50-75% of your bankroll per week in profit (tested to 15B in bankroll), and you can make a billion or two with 10 hours of play and no bankroll. Ergo, no one is poor except those unable or unwilling.
If you're not buying purples, yes, you can go on a shopping spree and barely dent that sizeable bank account.
I've been playing since the time where it took like a year to earn 100 million and 2 billion seemed like a total impossibility. Now as others have said there are ways to make a billion or more a day if you really wanted to.
Basically this game has evolved past the days when hitting the 2 billion cap was an amazing achievement. That's not to say it's a completely "meaningless" goal now - it mostly just means newer players can have as much INF as any 8+ year vet without being at any disadvantage.

Welcome back!
2b is still enough to buy most anything you want.
Major changes during my year off all seem to have favored easing monetary policy- for example, I bought up a bunch of Super Packs to get the full Elemental Order costume set and incidentally collected enough ATOs to make a cool billion in profit & also around 1k in merits, which I'm slowly converting to a-merits which I'll cash in to generate another massive windfall.
And this is all without having touched converters or any of that newfangled stuff.
And as mentioned, all the old tricks still work.
I've made a few billion flipping ATOs, and at the lower end it's easier than ever to find a "good" IO recipe that costs you next to nothing to buy & craft & which sells for 4-10m with good turnover.

You are rich beyond your wildest dreams. You can buy around 60,000 level 50 SOs. That's enough to fully equip 666 characters. Or you could load up around 210 characters with 50++ SOs.
You could also consider yourself middle class. You can buy enough level 50 Common IOs at 300K each in the Market to fully slot up 111 characters. Or at say 1M each load up 33 characters with moderate to decent set IOs.
You could also consider yourself poor. You can only buy about 3 sets worth of purples for a single character. I have nearly two orders of magnitude more liquid Inf, and there are people richer than me.
So really, it depends on what you plan to do with that Inf.
Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.
I've moved on to Diablo 3, TopDoc-1304
Welcome back! Your bids were cancelled when they combined the villain and hero auction houses a few years ago. All current bids were canceled and all listings were refunded and they both basically "started over". Enjoy your inf and figure out converters, cause they are a lot of fun!

I tend to think that with twenty minutes of explanation (at most) and six hours of prep work, nobody who pays for a subscription is poor.

You have more than enough inf to have 20B by the end of the week if you want. Invest wisely and you can make a ton of inf quick. I won't give out my niches but some of the old stuff still nets 300-500M per toon log-in (which total turn-around on is less than 5 mins even including the 30 second log-out timer). So get a few good niches and you can make more than a billion most days for 15 mins work. If you got to 2B you probably still know what to do. If not send a message to @Ferrum-ignis and I'll walk you though what I do if not where I do it.
And like everyone has said prices have actually dropped in the last 6 mos or so on high-end stuff
