Our friends at Massively.com have a new Leaderboard article where they pit the City of Heroes Freedom costume creator against those of two other MMOs. We'd love it if you'd head over there and let your voice be heard. Vote for Freedom!

ditto!

Although it's lame that 'compare/contrast' threads are only BADDY BAD BAD when players post them.

Looks like CoH is comfortably in the lead. Although I personally think ours is the best overall I can understand why some people think CO's one is better. A lot of that is style and taste. And ours could use a lot of organizational improvement (CO's has other issues).

I have no idea how much head injury it would take to believe DCUO's costume creator was better than either of them.

CO's does a couple of things waaaaaaay better than CoH (monstrous characters & asymmetry spring to mind) but CoH is generally superior.

Although it could, like nearly everything else in the game, do with a UI upgrade.

It got one with freedom. It probably needs a redesign rather than just an upgrade.

And I do appreciate it!
A major improvement.

That it still needs more help makes me weep for my past self, struggling all those years with that depraved mess of an interface.

Without a doubt, CoX wins for me based on the sheer volume of options we have over the competition.
I have played all three games, and there are some things that each game does well. For instance, CO has some costume pieces we don't have - a real blindfold, sashes for BOTH genders, cool loincloths, some really attractive (to me) hair for both genders (including long hair for men), long skirts for both - and I also like that you can have more than two colors per piece. I also like that for each piece there are options - cloth, leather and metal, so you can achieve uniformity of look while using pieces from different themes which you can't always do with our pieces (due to pre-tinting, different textures, newer tech, etc.). As fpr DCUO, it has some really cool, contemporary looking pieces, and a GREAT cosmic/star field pattern in their store, and the looks are often quite slick. However, DCUO lacks volume of costume pieces, you are pretty limited to what you have access to at first, and some of the really great end-of-game armors are locked behind nearly impossible to get (for casual/free players) fund and/or token requirements.
CoX could learn a thing or two from its competition, but the competition has far, far more to learn from this game right here.

Hardly "demonized"....if that were the case I'd be comparing it unfavorably with the grotesque monstrosity DCUO forces you to use.

I rate it as needs improvement, not makes you want to uninstall the game then reformat your hard drive to make sure you got rid of every last byte. =P

Ah, I'm not characterizing other people's post as that, I'm characterizing my post as that. I'm more than willing to demonize them for allowing the UI to become so whacked up and for continuing to delay Power Pool customization.

And I lay it all at Production's feet (it's you're problem, now, War Witch!). Production has never properly supervised the art department's care-taking of the costume creator interface (along with checking in with the patch notes process and fixing long time costume bugs), and they have not given Coding the go ahead to make Power Pool customization happen. Since power customization was introduced, there has been a lot of other stuff that has entered the game which I would gladly trade away for Power Pool customization. They're just not prioritizing it.

And just like I said when I crushed poor BAB's spirit after he worked so hard on it, I will say again: Power Customization is an unfinished, and therefore, poor job. Until it is truly finished it gets just a C- from me.

The only reason why I'd vote CoH's character creator better than the others (and I did) is because the others have even greater faults that make them Fs in comparison to CoH. If they took care of their glaring faults, they'd jump ahead of CoH.

I really should download both games before casting a vote. From what I have seen in passing when my son played DCU it looked okay, but like I said it was in passing.

The original "CoH Killer" wasn't my cuppa, but is worth a free DL to fuss around with the character creator.

The other one is emphatically NOT.

Well DCUO was worth it for the Travel Powers...Super speed and "Super Jump" looks amazing on that game.

I like CoX costume creator but the following really need looking into
PP and APP customization
HEAT/VEAT customization (they lowered the req to level 20 to unlock these but not being able to customise to the degree other ATs can be is a put off)
my 2 cents

The probelm is that those monstrous characters are meant to be human

One of the major problems with it - apart from them restricting the options on purpose so that everyone looks "DC" - is that while the costume parts are pretty well detailed, they also very often use a single piece instead of multiple ones, which lacks variety and leads to similar looking outfits on a lot of players.
For example, a DCUO retro sci-fi top based on the COH one would include the chest control box and the shoulder pieces built into it - there'd be no option to leave them off.

yeah, the irony of self-promotion through comparison when we can't compare is somewhat tasty.

You know I didn't greatly miss the comparison discussions until recently when I began perusing another game's boards that allows them, and I realized they can add a lot of value to understanding and enjoyment of what the game offers.

Oh, and voted for CoH...

It is cluttered and unwieldy these days due to all the many options, even if it is the best. I agree on the redesign need.

There's nothing left for me to say. I simply echo the above.

The thing is, Hit Streak didn't do a compare or contrast thread.

He posted a link to a Leaderboard article on another site where they pit our costume creator against those from two other MMO's. He didn't even say what MMO's or if they are in the same genre as CoH.

Of course, those of us that have been to the site know that they are in the same genre and are indeed CO and DCUO, but Hit Streak didn't compare or contrast either game with ours, or even the costume creators in the games.

He merely mentioned a site running a poll and suggested we go there vote for CoH: Freedom.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Then he should have made this a locked announcement thread

Positing a "join the discussion here" link kinda implies that there will be a discussion going on that's related to the topic

This is a hilariously pathetic justification.
