Ms. Liberty Task Force?

I wasn't around for the issue 23 beta, but I understand that at one point Back Alley Brawler was the replacement contact for the Statesman Task Force, but it was changed to Ms. Liberty. Can someone bring me up to speed on why? Back Alley Brawler doesn't really have much to do these days since Galaxy City was destroyed, and (according to the wiki at least, I haven't checked in-game) Ms. Liberty is ALSO still the trainer in Atlas Park. So why the snub on BAB?

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Beta feedback was rather overwhelming in asking for Ms. Liberty to be the new TF contact instead. Her role as leader of Longbow and Statesman's closest kin, as well as her recent "redeem Recluse" thing, made her more appropriate to fill in for the TF. The request was that BAB take her place in Atlas, but that part would/will require some time to change all the missions that send you to talk to her, and there wasn't time to do that before i23 went live. I'm not sure if the plan is that BAB will move to the spot under the globe later, or if that's been completely scrapped.

I cant imagine training in Atlas without Ms Liberty. She cant be moved.

The devs realized, after getting feedback, that it makes more sense this way, lore-wise.

It is perfectly thematically appropriate for Ms. Liberty to finish what her grandfather started, especially since it involves trying to redeem her great-uncle.

It is actually part of BaBs' backstory that after he retired from active heroing he spent most of his time training up and coming heroes.

Both things make perfect sense.

Ms. Liberty hasn't been moved yet because there are several low-level missions that involve talking to her. I expect BaBs to replace her at some point, but those missions will have to be rewritten slightly. I just assumed they hadn't gotten to that part yet, but they will in the near future.

The same could be (and was) said of Galaxy City, or revamping Atlas Park. It didn't seem to stop things then, either.

Are you positive that the fabric of the universe won't be rent asunder by a change to the skin of the trainer in Atlas Park, Hopeling? It's pretty important that we get this right the first time.

Eh, I give it about... 50-50.

In the event of multiversal catastrophe, though, I'd be more reassured by BAB's guidance than Ms. Liberty's, so kind of a win either way.

I think the best way is to make the platform Ms. Liberty stand on into a rectangle, and have BaBs stand next to her on it. That way, you have two heroes introducing new players to the game, and you get to pick whichever one you want to level up at. Liberty will also still be at the prime location for any mission stuff where you need to speak to her as well.

I believe in one of the recent Massively interviews they said that, based on feedback, they were going to leave Ms. Liberty in both places. It's not perfectly clear from that this is a permanent state of affairs, but I would read it as "it might be". They also said they still had things in mind for BaB, which reinforced my interpretation that he wasn't necessarily going to become the Atlas trainer.

Ms. Liberty has already wiped out her family through manipulating her fall guy Darrin Wade, along with bringing about the death of the only psychic with enough experience to read her mind - BAB would be well advised to keep out of her way as she tightens her grip on the city, especially now that her plan to revive Red Widow as a distraction for Recluse and Arachnos has allowed her to withdraw several Longbow units from the Rogue Isles and redeploy them on the Paragon streets.

So you're saying Ms. Liberty *is* her Praetorian counterpart?

... except for all the signature characters in Fort Trident.

Ms. Liberty, by the way, now appears in three places at once.

Well this is a conundrum,I have to say to the Devs here that the master of the former Statesman tf says "Master of Back alley Brawler tf"...Yet Ms. Liberty is there in I.P. Guys Removing Statesman the way it was done is Like umm... a pb and j sammich with no Bread. When other Devs Left they were not obliterated By dev community. Sorry Posi i do not agree with this move. If you look at top cow comics Overshadowing all when the game came out I.e. The comic was a promo release who is there larger than life...not Ms. Liberty ....I mean this is like Star Wars Missing 1 of its key Characters.
Or a Better theory, Star Trek without any of its famous Captains...Lets just take Fred (generic name inserted) and stick him there( Fred Could also be a her with a bad case of 5 pm shadow). Hate to say it guys ya killed Kirk without doing the torch pass to Picard. All in All ,,,not good

Bug. It should be "Master of Ms. Liberty Task Force". Expect it to change.

If the current dev team wanted to remove Statesman out of any sort of ill-will toward Jack Emmert, they'd have done so long ago. They've said as much. Also, all things must eventually change. Getting rid of Statesman and Sister Psyche shows that the current dev team is willing to make lasting, impactful changes in order to advance the game lore.

One of the ideas behind offing States and Psyche is to further shift the focus onto the player characters. Regardless of what their bios may say, all hero PCs have been living in the shadow of Statesman and the Freedom Phalanx since day 1. Now, that shadow isn't cast nearly as wide.

I still think it was a mistake to 'remove' Statesman from the game.

The game has lost it's one true iconic character ... and more worrying in doing so it's possibly lost its very identity as well.

What advantage has actually been gained by taking him out of the game? Or to put it another way ... Who gains from Statesman's removal?

It shows the game in a light that unlike the other superhero MMOs, nobody is safe from changes and that YOUR the star of the game.
