So WB put JL movie into the works
That rumor goes back as far as last year but nothing concrete has come about. Nolan however has stated that his Batman films and the Superman film are being kept seperate from each other. I'd think that at this time, any new Batman we'd see would be different than Nolan's take, particularly if it involves the rest of the DC universe.
For the record, Marvel did not do Fantastic Four. 20th Century Fox owns the movie rights to the FF just like they do the X-Men. Prior to the Disney buyout, Marvel couldn't raise, beg, borrow or steal enough money to buy back the film rights to those properties. With potential Disney money in the offing, Marvel could conceivably get the FF back, but Fox will never sell the X-Men.
What amazes me about how bad Superman Returns was is that it was directed by Bryan Singer, who did such a great job with X-Men I, II, and First Class. Maybe the Man of Steel movie will turn things around. |
Lol. ok. well i was going for the fact that they are essentially Marval comics. 20th Cent owned the movie rights, but they are Marvel comic book characters. Eitherway, the movies sucked.
I didn't mind Superman Returns as far as the overall movie. I guess i'm just biased towards chris reeve version.

After three movies, one cannot blame Bale for not wanting to suit up as Batman again, also I don't think that the Nolan/Bale Batman would work as part of the JL.

Nolan has yet to put his name on anything that was bad, so there the movie would have that going for it.

As for his other work, I always walked away from those asking myself what I just watched. I have no idea what to call The Prestige because that movie kept changing what it wanted to be all throughout its run-time. Is it about two magicians who started out as friends and then became competitors? Yes... but it's also a mystery rife with non sequitr plot twists because Bale's character has a weakly disguised twin! But wait, it's also about pseudo-scientific interdimensional magic which is the note the movie decided to end on and tells you to suck a fat one on the way out the door as you try to make sense of everything.
Then there's Memento. Guy Pearce has no short-term memory and has to tattoo everything he needs to remember and really really really needs to keep organized. The gimmick was cool at first but was milked to death and in the end the film really didn't move beyond it. So in the end, I was just like, "Huh, that movie really was about a guy who couldn't remember stuff."
In short, I confess to feeling quite the opposite. For me, he really hasn't put anything out worth watching and everything I've seen is bankrupt of any coherent substance.

But I think WB is better off copying Marvel's Movie Formula and have the solo movies build up to Justice League. |
I would agree...
I see it as a much bigger risk if WB is trying to do a JL movie and hope it goes as well as the Avengers movie so that they can do spin-off movies of the singular heroes.
One of the best things about The Avengers/the way Marvel did it, all the actors were the same.
They took a shot with RDJ as Iron Man/Tony Stark; it obviously went really well with them and then they did a Thor and Cap. America movie and hey, people liked it enough so full go for Avengers.
So, again, the only "unknown" factor in The Avengers movie was Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. I bet they did some pre-screening to see if people liked him as the actor himself...if people didn't, probably either got someone else or just "had him be in CGI hulk mode all the time" to rectify that.
I think Mark Ruffalo did a great job with the role so that's what really sealed the deal for me
If they just throw a JL movie together and hope that people like the actor(s) that play WW, SuperMan, Batman, etc....then...yikes...that could be really bad (or really good).

This is how you do a Justice league movie right IMO anyway without the need of a buildup for all the people. Use the Smallville universe. Get Tom Welling to play Superman and hopefully Michael Rosenbaum as Lex and Justin Hartly for Green arrow. They already had a few like Flash was in 1 or 2 episodes Aquaman was there just use the same actors if possible and I think it would rock. Just leave out she who will not be named.
That's how I would do it anyway.
For me, I felt Superman Returns was classic indulgent movie (or music or tv) production. Singer made the movie he wanted, and God bless 'em, that's great for him, but it wasn't the Superman movie I (and it looks like alot of others) wanted to see.
It just reeked of being an outlet for him to provide a tone, characters, plot, a story continuation from the Reeves films, etc, that he wanted to bring to life, and he got what he wanted, but I didn't.
Marvel did a great job making movies that I (and apparently others) wanted to see, and that is the core of their success.
PS Enough with Lex Luthor for a while, please.

As to Luthor, I don't mind if he's around just enough of the stupid real estate plans.
Superman 1: sink California and then move in and corner the market as it were in real estate.
Superman 2: he wants to rule Australia......okay.......
Superman Returns: terraform Earth with Kryptonian tech and corner the market in real estate......
Come on Lex, you can do better then that.

Maybe he could have pulled it off. You just never know. I would have bet the house that Tom Cruise was going to be awful as the Vampire Lestat, but he actually did pretty well.
The rumor that I've heard is WB is basically going to hand the keys over to Nolan to work on tooling a JL movie to work. He won't direct, but he will be a guiding hand in the movie, much in the same way he is with the new Superman movie.
Nolan has yet to put his name on anything that was bad, so there the movie would have that going for it.
