Could you have made that noise ANY louder?!

The Light of the Well noise. You know, that horrible ear-splitting tornado siren that plays whenever Tyrant uses the "air crackling" AoE patch attack?

Yeah. At 30% volume and 10% system volume that noise is STILL too loud. It causes my Klipsch headphones to sputter thanks to how loud it is.

Even better? When there's more than one of those lightning patches it gets EVEN LOUDER.

Who's idea was this? NOTHING in the game needs to be that loud. I love playing with my sound on, but I have to mute the Magisterium trial thanks to that awful siren-klaxon blast.

I'm not disagreeing, but ... I totally didn't notice this.

And yes, I play with game sounds on. I was wearing headphones and talking to someone on Skype most of the night, too.

I often play at 1-2% effect volume; music at 1%. The game is loud.

Unless they're deafened ahead of time.

Maybe they could ditch the noise and replace it with big red warning text:

Before Issue 23 I had the sound FX volume set to 10%. After i23 I have it set to 5% and some effects are still rather loud. CoH is the only program I run that needs the audio ramped way down like that.

The worst thing about it is many of the sound effects are quite nice, but the disparity in volume is so big you have pretty much no choice but to do the above if you value your ears.

I just got a new computer and didn't set the sound low right away, and was surprised to hear footsteps and other ambient sounds of the same kind. Unfortunately, at that level a loud AoE is ear-shattering.

What's also fairly dumb is sound effects just seem to stack to get louder the more targets you hit with a particular effect.

Yeah, the volume is all over the place in this game. The ambient sound in the zones is great, but to properly hear it you'd need to have the volume up so loud that combat would blow your ears out. It's been this way since day 1, though, so I'd be really surprised if it ever changed.

I tend to have SFX below 25% and music below 15% because it's too loud generally. Especially if I have the music player running.

On the other hand, I have to PAUSE my music and crank up the volume for those glowie based mish. Heaven forbid I level in the process of clicking it...I'd go deaf! >.<

I've had all the volume shut off for awhile now. I wouldn't mind ambient backround music and noises, and having the stuff I *need* to hear came through loud and clear. But it works the other way around, so easier to just turn it all off.

Kind of a pain when searching for glowies.

when I game with pals I use teamspeak so all my 'in game' sounds are usually turned way, way down. When I'm not talking to someone I adjust by turning up my speakers, but it's been a long time since any in-game noise actively irritated me.

Oddly my several year old Logitech 5.1 system handles it fine even though I'm only using the mobo outputs for sound.

It is loud, maybe even too loud. I don't mind it though.
