If you're a paladin, then your job is to manfully protect princesses, not criticize their hearwear

Shouldn't you be proclaiming that princesses have no need of a knight's protection, given the inherent superiority of females as a gender?

Well, it keeps the boys happy, and it also gets us an escort of one or more buff guys in armor - it's a win-win situation

As I was looking at the princess hat I noticed so nice witch hats that actually have hair for females and got kinda excited and went to check it males got them but no go. Why not? males can use Katie Hannons unlock witch hat. Devs if you let males use the witch hats in the paragon market I will go buy them the very instant my boys can wear em.

Just a copy paste from dictionary.com. Point being, forget about the whole gender thing and give stuff to both sides. I doubt anyone will be upset about that. Well, hats anyway. And masks...

Haha... it was a joke! You missed it.
I understand the frustration. I just view it like this... when something calls for one or the other or both... I'd like the best call to be made.
I don't really hold the player character models as female and male and representing anything that requires fairness...
I do hold the themes and designs and attitudes they represent to be judged by societal standards... as in... a tendency towards tough guy and dainty girl is not always best. They are separate issues, but I understand why some feel like the newer trend is backlash.
It's just completely different issues.
No reason a skull mask shouldn't be available for females.

Now... an all female costume pack with zero ports to males...
And things being ported from males to females... that will be judged by whether or not they get around to porting things from female to male, in my opinion.

Now is not constant though. Balance isn't always immediate. Things can be out of whack in the midst of it all... how it shapes up is a little more important, to me.

Witches and wizards share hat styles - princesses and princes don't

Wow.. What a thread. So many to Quote, so little time.

First off, pay my respects for the free stuff. Princess Hat, many thanks. Probably never would have bought it, but like to think I have everything in the game , so thanks for the help. Never play female toons, but just gave me an idea for new character so, thanks again.

Also, as far as one of the many tangents of the post: I agree, some people need to realize that everyone else is not a threat and to understand a joke when they read one. But on the other hand, the other side needs to remember that sarcasm, though sounding perfect in your head, does not translate well through text unless you personally know the writer.

And for condescension: No one deserves to have they're opinions condescendingly reprimanded. No matter how off base.

Now for the original purpose of this whole thread: I didn't know people were getting different things, and that it was so semi-random. I learned something. Thanks.

Free stuff is free stuff. No matter what it is, they didn't have to give it away for free at all, and just because you can't benefit from this weeks offering, doesn't mean others can't and some may actually need it. You don't have to get it and it is not like they are replacing a better "Pay-for-Item" opportunity with this "Free Item" space. There (IMHO) is no logical reason to complain about this feature what so ever. Yes, sometimes the items are not that useful and somewhat redundant. But in a years time they will be giving away 52 free items, and the offering per person is apparently random-ish so 52x(?), therefore just because a few items aren't the best or rarest item in the game, doesn't mean the whole program is a waste of time.

And agreed from previous posts: Although I too have accrued way too many team/dual insps from superpacks that I will probably never use, I will take another Revival/ XP/INF/PRST booster for free anytime, any day.

Now for the original reason for the reply near the beginning of the thread....

Amen. Couldn't agree more and try to bring it up as often as possible. Well put.

When you 'gave' them away in Super Packs and still very few people used them, that should have been a huge indicator that the majority of the player base didn't want them.
Disagree. I wouldn't call it junk especially if you don't have to take it. And as for the super packs, granted it's depressing when you don't get anything that good, I love having an over abundance of that stuff. 1) I get to waste 'em if I feel like it or want to "experiment" 2) Like being able to give stuff to my friends (insps, etc.) or help SG.

But I Highly agree that the email list window adjustment abilities need to be re-evaluated. Significantly annoying when you have so many.
That should not be a back burner item for the dev team.

*shrug*

"Yes, more free stuff! Gimme!!!"

Is that more within the lines of the mindless 'drone' response you were looking for?
That's pretty harsh and a bit over the top. (IMHO of course)

Thanks for your time everyone. And remember: In order to justify respect for you post/opinion, you MUST respect the posts/opinions of everyone else. Not necessarily "agree with", but respect.

.... Sidenote ....

Might have missed the point from your entire post (my fault not yours), but just in reference to this one line

Logged in to get the free pointy hat, even though I don't expect to use it. Saves me the trouble of ever wanting it, which would be inevitable if I didn't have it.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Indeed. What I was saying (and it may not have been your fault, hehe, I ramble around sometimes) is that they've released things that were male only and somewhat recently ported them to females (parts of the Magic and Gunslinger Packs: Baron Jacket, Gunslinger Jacket and several items). And that is great!!
And it remains possible that some or all of the Carnival of Light costumes may be ported from female to male.
Since it takes time... it's a wait and see thing for me.

For the record though, those port jobs from male to female (on oft requested ports for female characters) came as Dink, a character artist, had some rare time to spend on it and made it happen.
Hopefully that can happen some more (both for male to female and for more female to male) as time continues to go by.

So, yeah, I was thinking about the CoL costumes as well when I typed that.
Just saying that now it is this way, but as things go, they may continue to balance out.

While I am grateful for all the free things, this hat has been my favorite so far.

I should have done this earlier, but thank you for the free gifts, Devs.

I wasn't asking for the princess hat for males reread my post you agreed with me. I want the witches hat usable for males for exactly the reason you state.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not here (again with that whole "hard to read sarcasm in text" thing), but I'm going to reply as if you were.

As it stands currently, every player gets the same offering for Freebie Friday.

The only "random" factor to it is that the marketing department apparently throws darts at a board to decide what we all get. (That bit was sarcasm. Or hyperbole. Or both.)

well if a costume hat is so awesome that it needs 4 days to handle the mad rush to get it, I wonder how long for some thing like a purple recipe? 2 weeks?

to me this smells of a test to see if freebie friday would work on another night, like when they show a tv show not on its normal night.

or they could be getting legimate complaints from people who only play on weekends, and miss out on the freebie.

I am reminded of the first halloween event it only lasted 3 days during the week and weekend players complained,so next year it was longer.

I think it's because not only is it a permanent item instead of a consumable, it's also costume realted whcih a lot of the community freak out over a lot - so to avoid the flood of tears from people who skipped the 24 hou claim period becasue they thought it'd be another consumable, they've extended it by a few days

The extra bits and pieces are called style - it's something quite a few boys have trouble with
