The Statesman Memorial

I don't think AP is a good place for it personally... If you are gonna do it that way, why not in IP where ther is a natural reflecting pool and lots of nothing to mess around with.

I still think Maria Jenkins needs a nod in all of this.

The only issue is that there's no one for the back.

Sooo...

*grabs the knife* Any volunteers?
Why not a triangular monument?

That's if she isn't ret-conned to have always been Positron's life-long friend instead of the Statesman's.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to see something too much more bombastic than the Cyrus Thompson statue in Kings' Row. As others have said, the Statesman probably wouldn't have wanted a parade. I'm not even sure I want an actual statue of the guy, more a memorial monument of some sort, something dedicated to all the good he has done and all the lives he has touched. Even as wretched as him "giving up with a smile" was, that can still be used for a decent memorial - consider it not a memorial to himself, but more to the future heroes who will take up his mantle and the people they will fight to protect.

What I'm saying is I want to see the man treated with a shred of dignity in death.

Just a thought, but they could also reuse Hero 1's memorial (that mini arc that starts with the city rep), since he's not really dead anymore. It would make sense for Statesman's ghost to give new heroes their capes, anyway.

Naa. either standing triumphantly or carrying the world. Not holding up the new signature character that got to hop into the FP spot instead of the player character, when it was said killing States off was about making the player characters #1

That'd be parading around the opposite

I thought that he spent more time imprisoned and needing his pals to rescue him - wasn't he being regularly imprisoned for years before he decided to hand out a TF?

Nope.

He was caught once. He was rescued once. It's just everyone gets to run the content.

Or do you really think Hero 1 keeps getting revealed as being alive and it's news to everyone?

What?! He's alive? That's news to me!

Not when you team with many people running the mission. Used to be a running joke in the teams I ran with on Union in 2006 that he was always being kidnapped.

Kidnapping States was a repeatable mission for NPCs.

Then that goes back to running TFs repeatedly and "OMG HERO 1 IS ALIVE! *GASP*" over and over again.

Story arcs are no different than TFs.

It was actually the original meta plot of the game. The world's premiere hero had gone missing, and it was only in the 40s you found out what happened to him.

It was still the meta plot while he was handing out TFs. Which... yeah... we try not to think about it.

Change the Atlas Park blimp into a giant parade balloon of Statesman.

The point that BrandX is making is that no matter how many times the story gets played through by no matter how many different people, there's still just one story with one event. Statesman was not imprisoned 10,000 times. Azuria was not robbed 10,000 times. The Freaklympics were not held 10,000 times in a single year.

Each event is a singular event that happens to be a repeated experience with each PC as the star of the experience. Statesman did not die 10,000 times this past Spring. He died once.

If a species of four-dimensional creatures was capable of seeing your entire life as a single wormhole in the solid crystal of time and each of them took turns inhabiting your mind like a roller-coaster ride in order to experience your lifetime, you would still have only one lifetime and one set of experiences, no matter how many extra-dimensional individuals chose to also experience vicariously along with you.

It's easy to laugh about Statesman's ineptitude or the screen door in the MAGI vault, but in "reality", those perceptions are simply the jaded result of multiple viewings of the same singular experience; much like watching a movie on loop. The "reality" is that those experiences would not seem at all laughable if they players also experienced them as singular experiences like they would be in real life.

Try asking 1000 couples how they first met, and you'd be surprised at how few of those stories actually match. No one's lying, either, memory, perception and the fabric of reality itself are just complicated things that we've yet to master.

I'd take BrandX's words even further, everytime a player logs a character in the game that character's view becomes the only valid view in the universe - everything else is just a tree falling in a forest, i.e. quantum interference that is best disregarded

By the way, for any VIPs who want to jump on the Beta server and ask Alpha Wolf to unlock SSA2.1, you'll find that Statesman is still getting talked about quite a bit by the Phalanx, and they're not finding things easy without him there.
If the devs are meant to be trying to play down his influence, then they're not going about it in the right way
