Hostess comic book ads

Any of you remember those Hostess ads in Marvel and DC comic books? The ones where the villains would be thwarted by the strategic use of Twinkies, Ding-Dongs and Fruit Pies.

We could really use a CoH version of those, I think.

FUNNY you should mention that... someone recently pointed me to a website that has those old ads.

I want to see Lord Recluse distracted by a box full of fruit pies!

And Ghost Widow. "Even ghosts can appreciate the deliciousness of Twinkies cakes!"

Oh yeah, Sean Baby. That site's been around for over a decade now, I think!

Nice... I think I've seen that page before, actually, just not for a while now.

Danke!

I've suggested a [Fruit Pie] Placate/Confuse power before.
I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Sean Baby is the savant of things like this. That website is also the home of Dick Whiskey--history's drunkest cop, the PUNCHMASTER, and the Dog Who Doesn't Give a ****.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. Don't forget Popsicle Pete! NONE OF YOU ARE SAFE!

Seanbaby is awesome. I've been a fan of his since his EGM days.

I wasn't going to name the creeping evil. That, in and of itself, is number one.

That was the first MA arc I created. Nobody seemed to get it at the time

(just lost quite a few MA arcs I was working on due to computer problems, but due to its age, I might still have that one sitting around somewhere... hmmm)

I really loved those old comic ads. I'm glad someone else remembers them!

At one point I even thought about finding out what permissions I would need to compile them all and make a coffee table book out of them, but with at least three companies involved (two that are competitors at that) I figured I wouldn't have near the resources to make that happen. (But if someone else reads this and actually wants to go through the effort, I'd buy it- hint-hint)

Plus if I did it I'd want to add, as a bonus epilogue to the book, the issue of Marvel Super Hero Team-Up that had Galactus team up with Aunt May. Now WHO remembers that one?!

"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.

I remember both these things, because they are ridiculous and enjoyable.

P.S. Make sure to check if your arc is still playable, and please fix it if it isn't, because I have several heroes who could use a pie interlude.

P.P.S. Ghost Widow, after being thrown a delicious baked good, ought to say, "The dead do not change ... nor does the delicious taste of Hostess (R) Cupcakes."

Also, make sure each and every arc ends with the words "You get a big delight in every bite of Hostess..." fruit pies, Twinkies, cupcakes, etc.

I had a few of these storyboarded for use in one of my comic-book guides ohsolongago, but then RL caught me in its evil grasp and I didn't have the time to make them a reality.

Isn't there, like...an in-game fruit pie company or maybe it was just a chocolate bar company...I seem to remember there being a billboard in RI where there's some cartoon guy munching on something of the sort.

Yes, but why would it be only one power? Clearly we should have a Fruit Pie power pool with a self-heal, a single target placate, an AoE placate, and a confuse.

Hi everyone,

Please remember not to link to websites that display profanity, as this is not allowed on the City of Heroes Freedom Forums.

Thank you for understanding,

There would need to be some reference to Twinkies being immortal.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

Place Twinkies at the Sybil temple on the ITF and then go pick them up in Who Will Die part 5.

I hear ya, my only real AE arc was fruit pie/cupcake/twinkie based.
I've repeatedly said that the Omega slot has to be snack cakes or it's really not as op as it should be. Snack cakes > anything.

While everyone's on seanbaby.com looking at the ads (don't miss Hulk vs. the Phoomie Goonies) read his Superfriends analysis which is one of the funnier things on the internets.
